Well, since we have so few birds in common, it's a bit hard to make a comparison, but you folks do have a small crow that I think might be about the same size as a blue jay. Umm, now what the heck is it called? Has a gray head, and lives in holes in the stones at Stonehenge (among other places).

Coal tit? (And I don't mean that as an insult, lol.)

Also crow sized. So are bluebirds crow sized? Never mind, I see now you've already answered. I thought blue birds were little.

Blue BIRDs are indeed little, about the size of your robins, I think (and somewhat related). Blue JAYs are larger, although nowhere near as large as our common crows.

AhhhhhhHHHHhhhhh! Something that I find weird is the song 'there'll be blue birds over the white cliffs of dover' but we don't really have blue birds.

Must be an American song, probably anticipating the end of World War II. The blue bird here is considered an emblem of happiness.

Yup, both words and music by Americans. Wikipedia thinks the term "bluebirds" might also have referred to the RAF fliers in their blue uniforms.

ah ha!

Here's a blue jay

It can be anywhere from 9"-12" long from bill to tail.

Bluebirds/blue jays, same order (perching birds), different family (thrush vs. crow).

All feathered though, right? At least I can say I know that much. ;)

Mini-rant - why aren't there more hours in the day? I need to keep cancelling stuff to do other stuff like, you know, sleep. My friend messed me about so much Friday evening that I didn't quite storm off, but I did rather pointedly leave. Don't mess around with exhausted people's time, it doesn't end well for anyone.

At least partially feathered. I've seen a couple that look liked they've been plucked, poor things.

Not enough hours in the day? Gee *yawn* I couldn't possibly know what you meannnnzzzzzzzzz........

I've always thought 30 hours would be just about right. When left to my own devices, I tend toward a 30-hour "day."

Posted

30 hours day should be ideal, but it shouldn't be used to extend our working hours or increase the need for sleep.

It should be personal time!

About sleep? How self sabotage are you?

The other day, after months, I finally got a 7 hours sleep. So my inner self was boasting about how well rested I was and being smug about it, ended up only squeezed 4 hours the next night and my average stays.

I have been doing pay back since forever, I know it probably doesn't but like to think it works. So if I don't sleep for two nights but on the third night I have 16-17 hours then it's fine because I still have average of 5-6 hours. Practiced a lot of this during uni time especially.

Posted

I used to do that when I had summer holidays from uni and wasn't working for a bit. I don't think I ever went several nights, but I'd miss sleeping some nights without any issues. At my old job I used to get about 2 hours sleep a night, and then have an epic 12-15 hour 'nap' on a Friday evening.

Had something weird happen yesterday night, I don't get creeped out much, don't have too many nightmares, and especially not ones that stick with me when I wake up. I don't remember exactly what I was dreaming, but I woke up about half 3 and I was convinced there were shadow people in the house. I ended up so freaked out I couldn't go back to sleep and didn't want to turn the light off until I had managed to calm myself down enough to snap out of it. Weird. Especially since my current house isn't creepy at all. I lived in a house a while back that was amazing architecture wise but super creepy, my flatmates had seen and felt things that shouldn't be there, and I always felt like I was being watched and followed if I went down to the toilet in the middle of the night.

They've closed a bunch of ramps in the interchange between two nearby interstate highways. Despite the temporary inconvenience, I was happy because one of those ramps in particular had been very poorly designed, and I was looking forward to its replacement.

Turns out they're merely redoing some bridges. Presumably the new ones will be stronger and safer. But when the detours disappear, it'll be back to the same perilous ramps. Grrr!

But is it better than these?

Because apparently for some ramp is a very difficult concept to understand.

Ha! Whenever something in this country isn't wheelchair friendly it seems like everyone has a conniption the second it's pointed out.

I can understand why some things are not (and scarcely could be) wheelchair accessible -- but a nonaccessible ramp seems like an oxymoron.

Especially the "moron" part. :d

Did you know moron is carrot in Welsh? Some useless information for you.

So inaccessible wheelchair ramps are oxycarrots. Sounds like a health drink.

So that's why Carrot Top is called that. It fits. :p

Good god!

Do you have any idea what this piece of information could do for me??

Now I can't stop imagining Sherlock, with his deep sexy voice, mumbling "carrot" after he headbutted the agent.

Then I can, in socially acceptable way, yell on top of my lung CARROTS! in meeting, traffic or other situations whenever I am frustated.

Casually walk into a grocery store and say,"I want to buy 500 gram of morons to make my soup tastier and more colorful."

Or maybe I finally figure out the art of flirting, confidently approach a guy, with eyebrows twitching seductively and say,"Ahoy there, fun fact, do you know that baby moron is actually regular moron being shaved to the core?" Eyebrows twitch.

Wohooo!
