Really. Using the word colour is hardly a racist bomb. While it has gone out of fashion in some areas it is still used the world over.

#221 Baker Street

It is also mentioned at least in canon that Sherlock paid her a princely rent. So much so that she could have bought the full block. -
Canon References In BBC Sherlock
Bakerstreet Irregular replied to believeinsherlock's topic in The Casebooks.
Even in Doyle's canon many Sherlockians and Holmesians believe that Dr. John H. Watson was necessary as Holmes's moral compass. Yes, as they grew older, Holmes did take on some cases on by himself but then Watson had gotten married at least twice and had a successful medical practice. There were probably times when Watson just could not get away even though he did as often as possible. Watson said that he had some 20 something years of being Holme's companion in crime and for thousands of cases. -

Where Did Sherlock live before 221b?
Bakerstreet Irregular replied to Convict13's topic in Characters
That was Sally's take on it but historically any work he did for the different New Scotland Yard DI's could very well have carried some kind of stipend from each one for each case.- 24 replies

Since BC does say that he studies Brett to help with his own portrayal, it could be that we might see some of that. Let's hope anyway.

Canon References In BBC Sherlock
Bakerstreet Irregular replied to believeinsherlock's topic in The Casebooks.
I think Watson was difficult to write because in canon he was the one behind the camera, so to speak. He was present but most of the narrative was focused on Holmes and that seemed to be the way Watson wanted it. -
Benedict Cumberbatch in "The Imitation Game"
Bakerstreet Irregular replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Cast & Crew
I think that the Civil Rights movement was a very important part of our social history and it still is. I'm very glad that they made Selma and I hope it does win some awards since it did get pretty well snubbed by the Academy. But I still don't know if I would pay to see it. -
Benedict Cumberbatch in "The Imitation Game"
Bakerstreet Irregular replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Cast & Crew
That's why I seldom go to movies like Selma, Amelia Earhart, or any other documentary type movie. If I wanted realism I would read the newspapers and I really don't want to go to the movies to do that. I want entertainment. But that said, I had only recently even heard of Alan Turing and from all the things I had read here on the Forum about the movie it sounded better then most. At least there would be some kind of closure to it all. It wasn't going to be a rehash of all the known facts and not much else. -
Benedict Cumberbatch in "The Imitation Game"
Bakerstreet Irregular replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Cast & Crew
Oh Lord I am so glad that we didn't get a Turing love scene on screen. People are getting voyeuristic aren't they. It would have spoiled the whole movie for me. But then we do get his love affair with "Christopher" the boy who befriended him in school and introduced him to cryptology. His first love but never got to tell him so. In the movie Turing names the machine after him. Protected it. Tries to rebuild it in his home and tells Clarke that with "Christopher" he had never been alone. -
Benedict Cumberbatch in "The Imitation Game"

I saw it and really, I think it was really well done. No tears though. Not even all that angry. Disgusted by how he was treated but then human beings do that a lot....have done that a lot....continue to do that a lot. Who said life is fair, not me. But I do see he was awarded the FRS and the OBE don't know if those came along with the Royal Pardon but there you go better dead then never. -

I'll take some handy wipes then. I know I'll probably feeling righteous indignation on Turing's behave and be angry. -

Looks like I will be making the Imitation Game tonight. Sun is shining, my computer is fixed and all is as right with the world as we can expect it to be, I guess. -

I think we have already seen how much Sherlock's armor has been compromised. He has begun to acknowledge the depth of friendship. And he has shown just how dangerous it is to threaten those he so favors. But what I want to see is Sherlock to best his older brother at his own game. Sherlock is the best at what he does and it's about time that Mycroft comes to understand just what that is and means. But then, we have heard Mycroft say that England will always need Sherlock Holmes so maybe there is hope for Mycroft yet.

And it would appear Mycroft Holmes is not above using and or manipulating any or all of it.
