Series 3 News - the official stuff
Alex the Dabbler replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in The News Stand
Radio Times has announced that Sherlock is the most watched BBC Drama in the UK since the current ratings measurement system started in 2001, with an average of nearly 12 million viewers per episode of series 3. This should prolong the life of the show, hopefully for decades . http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2014-01-22/sherlock-is-most-watched-bbc-drama-series-for-over-a-decade -

Apparently the Sherlock Series 3 DVD and Blu-ray release in the UK is 27 January, which is probably why Amazon UK is estimating delivery to us in the first week of February: http://www.sherlockology.com/news/2013/12/4/sherlock-s3-dvd-collectors-box-41213 -

That would be a good idea as long as they included Rosalind Halstead in it.

According to Radio Times from a BBC source, Sherlock Series 3 will air in the UK before the 19 January date that it will air on PBS in the U.S. and Steven Moffat said that he thinks it will end up being the very end of this year or the very beginning of next year. This is good for us because we already ordered the Region 2 DVD set from Amazon.co.uk and they will probably ship it right after episode 3 airs in the UK. http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2013-10-23/sherlock-series-3-us-air-date-revealed?ref=Article.RelatedNews

Series 3 Filming News
Alex the Dabbler replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Rumours & Speculation
The big news of the day to me is that three months to the day, Sherlock series 3 filming returned to North Gower Street. The following link is a Radio Times article on the event. Of course, Carol and I are disappointed that Benedict Cumberbatch didn't come out and interact with fans while we were there back on 21 May like he did today (perhaps he was in a more relaxed mood today considering that series 3 filming is almost done now). http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2013-08-21/benedict-cumberbatch-films-sherlock-series-3-finale---photos You also can see some neat fan photos from the Twitter Setlock page: https://twitter.com/search?q=%23setlock Hopefully we'll be back at North Gower Street during series 4 filming. -
I believe you can find it on the #setlock page on Twitter. His sign says "Go Photograph Egypt and show the world something important". https://twitter.com/search?q=%23setlock

Sherlock Series 3 has not been scheduled for broadcast yet, however, the DVD sets may be preordered from Amazon in the United States via this link: http://www.amazon.com/Sherlock-Season-Three-Benedict-Cumberbatch/dp/B00E3UN44W/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=3B9Z6RAJ8CNAV&coliid=I3HMKEY99LVSA6 and the United Kingdom via this link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DRDCIA2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Carol and I have already preordered the DVDs from Amazon UK because they will be available first and we have a region-free DVD Player (also note that most PCs with DVD players have the capability to set the DVD player to any region, but commercial DVD players typically only will play the region that the country that sold it is in). The UK DVDs will likely be shipped shortly after episode 3 has aired on BBC One. The U.S. release won't be available until after Series 3 is aired on PBS, which will likely happen well after Series 3 has aired in the UK.

While I do like Elementary, I absolutely love Sherlock! The plots in Elementary are sometimes too clever for their own good, with so many twists and turns that become a bit annoying to me at times. I also think that the gore in Elementary sometimes strikes me as gratuitous. The acting in both shows is very good, although I think the acting in Sherlock is superior. Miller and Liu are very good, but Cumberbatch and Freeman set the modern-day standard in my opinion. As Cumberbatch has said, Sherlock is also truer to the Conan Doyle books and certainly more British, while Elementary strikes me as kind of an American CSI clone that just happens to feature a modern-day British Sherlock Holmes. As my wife has said, Sherlock is more compelling and more re-watchable.

Why did Moriarty kill himself?
Alex the Dabbler replied to bborchar's topic in Rumours & Speculation
Based on what Moffat said at Comic Con, they were just filming scenes with Andrew Scott to fill in the back story for The Empty Hearse and Moriarty is indeed dead. -

Why did Moriarty kill himself?
Alex the Dabbler replied to bborchar's topic in Rumours & Speculation
Why would Andrew Scott be in the Series 3 cast if Moriarty is dead? I know he was supposed to film some additional scenes at Bart's, but this article makes him sound like a cast regular for Series 3 and maybe beyond. I also think that Moffat & Gatiss wanted Scott back, especially after he won the BAFTA last year. -
Why did Moriarty kill himself?
Alex the Dabbler replied to bborchar's topic in Rumours & Speculation
I don't think Moriarty killed himself after reading this: -
Yes, it's probable that the Una Stubbs interview was done a few months ago. I would think that Cumberbatch now knows how Sherlock survived!

Pre-order your Series 3 DVD now!
Alex the Dabbler replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in The News Stand
Note that PBS has confirmed that it will not air Sherlock Season 3 before 2014: http://www.hypable.com/2013/07/03/sherlock-series-3-us-air-premiere-date/, so it was an easy decision to preorder the Series 3 DVD from Amazon UK. .
