Well, apparently BBC is finally poised to announce that episode 1, "The Empty Hearse" of Sherlock Series 3 will air sometime between 21 December and 3 January.  Merry Christmas!  Here's the link to the Radio Times story:

Hey, sweetie, I posted that after you went to bed last night!

But that's OK -- stuff is finally starting to happen, and it's coming along so fast that several of us (including two staff members who shall remain nameless, especially the one you're married to) have unwittingly posted duplicate information in the past few days.  Far better to have it twice than not at all!

That kind of information cannot be repeated enough! Thanks, everybody! Oooooh, the anticipation is starting to really set in...

How is it that I've waited sooooo long for this already, and yet now that I know it's coming within the next 4-6 weeks, it feels like I've got another two years to wait? :( It just can't come soon enough!!

Just wait till they do announce the date -- then we'll be counting the minutes -- thousands of them!  :o

In London during rush hour tomorrow morning, around Baker Street, North Gower Street, or even St Bart’s Hospital?

Well, we understand there may, finally, be a chance to pay your #r3spects… If you are able to, share a picture of a certain vehicle containing some special news…

The link inside the quote takes you to a Facebook page where you can leave a comment.  The fans who have already posted are thinking (as I am) that there will be -- oh, let me guess -- an empty hearse driving around London with the UK air date emblazoned on it.

:bouncy:

More info here.  But apparently only that one photo so far.  Some people have commented that they caught sight of the hearse, but it went by so fast that they could neither read the date on it nor get a photo.

Well shucks, now Alex and I will be stuck watching at least "The Empty Hearse" (minus 8 minutes) on PBS on the 19th without having seen the whole thing first.  Let's see, New Year's Day is a Wednesday, so hopefully the other two episodes will revert to Sundays, with "Sign of Three" only 4 days later on the 5th, and "His Last Vow" on the 12th.  Amazon UK would then start shipping the DVDs on the 13th, and we'd get ours sometime around the 23rd -- quite possibly before PBS airs their abridged version of "Sign" on the 26th.

Quite a bit of hype going on across the channel... But it is washing over to the continent, too. Only the other day, I came across a teenager walking the streets of my small town with a sweatshirt that read "I am sherlocked".

Isn't it a bit dangerous to get people overly exited? There's already so much expectation and speculation. My own wish list grows daily and there seem to be an awful lot of people out there who cling passionately to their own explanation for "The Fall" as well as various other theories about the show. How will the actual episodes ever manage to satisfy an audience with so many preconceived ideas?

The wisest procedure would probably be to just forget about Sherlock until my own DVD arrives, then sit down with it one evening pretending I've never heard of the whole thing before and just let the impressions sink in. Not being wise in the least, I will probably continue to watch those trailers several times a day, read every bit of news I can lay my hands on and re-watch the Reichenbach Fall again and again, hoping to finally solve all the riddles before January 1st, at which point I will most certainly be online gobbling up every spoiler I can find.

Thanks for the links and pictures here! Carol, isn't it long past midnight where you live? Go to bed, I'd say... :)  and sleep well.

You and every other fan :)

I have confidence, though, that we won't be disappointed. What is worrying me, is that after the first episode has aired I'll be thinking: I spent dozens of hours (at least) speculating, and it's all resolved in 1½ hour...  :P

I don't have a link sorry, but apparently the BBC have confirmed those two Sunday dates as the air dates for episodes 2 and 3.

So series 3, two years of waiting and It'll be over in less than two weeks from series start to finish, as much as I really want to watch it, I kind of wish with it being such a short series they would drag it out a bit more :/

My sentiment, exactly. I would have liked 2-3 weeks between each episode. Maybe that's weird... or not.

But, then again, who am I to complain. We're getting three new episodes very soon... Yay!!

The air dates for episode 2 and 3 are mentioned in one of the tweets on the right.

Eeeeeeeee, there's finally an air date; I'm so happy :)

Though I thought the BBC said it would be shown during the christmas schedule? Jan 1st isn't exactly christmas; it's New Year! :( Ah well, I shouldn't complain; it's on its way... :D

But it's kind of depressing me a little that, like Toni says, it'll all be over in 11 days and then it'll be another loooooooong wait for more episodes :(

Damn good question, I'd say.  I hope they succeed, but like you, I can't imagine how.  'Twould be far easier to dissatisfy all of us at once -- "... and then John woke up."  :P

Sherlockology has just announced air dates for several additional countries:

We’ll be updating this post as new dates and times are revealed, but that’s where YOU come in.

So, here’s how this post works –

1)      If your country is not listed here, the airdate for Sherlock S3 hasn’t been revealed yet.

2)      If you know your countries’ airdate for Sherlock S3, and it isn’t listed here – tell us! And we’ll get it added and reblog the post.

It's not going to be over after episode 3 airs - it will only just begin! There's going to be a new cliffhanger to break our heads over, for starters. Then there will be 270 minutes to mine for canon references and, I trust, at least as many Sherlock lines to ponder over: "Now did he really mean what he said there...?"

I still don't feel like I'm done enjoying the previous episodes. Of course I'm really looking forward to the next, but part of me is yelling "Wait! Wait! Don't tell me yet - I'll figure it out any day now!"

I'm super excited that we finally have an airdate, and that it's right around the corner, but I'm also surprised... I really didn't think they would air it so far out from that theater thing on the 15th.  No way they are going to contain spoilers for over two weeks. As tight fisted as Moff usually is with Doctor Who secrets, I'm surprised he'd be willing to let Sherlock be spoiled so far in advance of the BBC premier.

I'm surprised / disappointed as well -- thought for sure it'd be the 22nd or 29th, or perhaps Christmas Day.

Martina posted the link to John's latest blog entry on the evening of the 23rd, and now it's the 30th at almost midnight -- I was wondering if he'd do another entry today, but apparently it won't be simply every Saturday.  I wonder what "old cases" he'll post?  (Presumably some minor Conan Doyle stories that Moftiss have no intention of making into episodes?)

I'm with you! With a show like this in the age of internet forums and social media, half the fun is the life it takes on outside itself. This fan base could easily keep itself busy with one episode for two weeks afterward. With the whole series over in 11 days... wow! I think we'll all be left in a conflicted stupor, unable to fully process what we've seen yet already starving for more.

Meanwhile, I don't know how some of you have dealt with all the waiting. I was only introduced to Sherlock a little over two months ago and I'm already climbing the walls here. This does not bode well for the next long wait!

And I'm with you :) I know what you mean - I only watched the show 6 months ago, and lately the wait has become agonising :) I'm no longer satisfied with discussing the previous episodes, though I still enjoy it very much - on that note; a big thank you to the administrators of a wonderful fan site like this!

However, we need more!

I, too, am dreading the long wait between series 3 and 4, but there will be lots of things to discuss and share. Once that no longer satisfies me, I might just start reading the original books.

That does sound fairly familiar!  Actually, Alex and I first saw Series 2 on a Region 2 DVD, and I doubt that it took us more than 24 hours to watch the whole thing.  Then we watched it again.  And so on, trying to figure out what the *&%$@ actually happened.  A couple of months later, I discovered this forum, and that has been great fun.  I don't think the "waiting" really got to me till they were filming Series 3.

Yes, a number of us have been driven to that extreme!

But they say the next cliffhanger is a real doozy (unlike their pathetic effort last time  ;) ), so I suspect we'll have plenty to discuss as well.

I suppose you're right; I just get so caught up in the programmes I like that I just wish they'd never end; I'm actually a very patient person in all other areas of my life but when it comes to my favourite TV shows, I'm like a little kid on a neverending xmas eve :D

And I'm doing exactly the same thing with regards the episodes; I keep feeling like I should be able to get the answer what with the information we already have coupled with the number of times I've seen the series, but I just can't!

I really didn't think they would air it so far out from that theater thing on the 15th. No way they are going to contain spoilers for over two weeks.

That's what I'm worried about; I think I'm going to have to abstain from society for those few weeks because if anybody spoils anything for me from that episode, I will not be responsible for my actions.

Meanwhile, I don't know how some of you have dealt with all the waiting.

Mainly by sitting in the corner of a dark room, hugging my knees to my chest and rocking whilst whispering over and over "Not long now... not long now..." :D

But they say the next cliffhanger is a real doozy (unlike their pathetic effort last time ;) )

Omg, tell me about it.... I mean, faking one's own death to save the lives of one's friends? Soooooooo passé, Mofftiss; do try harder :D

The only thing that is getting me through the horrifying thought of yet another hellish hiatus after just 11 days of season 3, is the knowledge that we will at least have a slew of new fanfics to pore over.  I'm desperately searching Livejournal at the moment, trying to find any comm like dw-ficsearch for Sherlock. The only one I've been able to find where I could request specific fics (or specific types of fics) seems to be rarely updated or visited. My google-fu has failed me. :-/

SEASON THREE, HURRY UP!

Hey Liselle, at least you can see "The Empty Hearse" on New Year's Day.  *whimper*  Over here, we don't even get to see PBS's chopped-up version till January 19th (and some countries don't get the first episode till February).

By the 12th, you'll have seen all three intact episodes, and our Region 2 DVD won't arrive till about ten days later.  I'm gonna have me some real fun, trying to avoid spoilers right here on this forum!  :D
