That brings up a good question for newbies like me... what is the spoiler protocol?

I assume that after the premier thing on the 15th, spoilers will still be confined to the spoiler forum.  But what about after the UK premier on the 1st of January? Is everything considered spoilers until after the US premier, or just after the UK premier?

That brings up a good question for newbies like me... what is the spoiler protocol?

It's not just newbies who are wondering, I assure you!  This forum was founded shortly after Series 2 had completely aired in the UK, so none of us have ever faced this situation before.

As I understand it, Tim is planning to create a Series 3 sub-forum with threads for each of the three new episodes (just like the existing Series 1 and Series 2 sub-forums), and any discussion of what's actually in the new episodes will be confined to the Series 3 sub-forum.  (Mere conjecture can still continue in the Spoilers, Rumours & Speculation sub-forum.)

That way, anyone who hasn't yet seen Series 3 can avoid reading what's actually in those episodes for as long as they want or need to do so -- there won't be any "official" cutoff date.

Tim, it just occurred to me -- we may need that "Empty Hearse" thread by December 15th!

I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to spoil myself on December 15th. On the one hand, I am dying to know what happens, but on the other, I kind of want to wait!

I had this same dilemma last weekend as I was waiting for the 50th to air in the UK, only to discover that it was going to be broadcast simultaneously worldwide, so that solved THAT problem!

I will probably go back and forth on this decision 100 times before December 15th, and then decide what I want to do once the spoilers are actually available.

But, in all honesty, I'll probably end up spoiling. I don't think I will be able to withstand temptation for 15 whole days!!!

Sorry Carol; I forget that for once the UK is quite lucky and will get to see the episodes before anyone else does :(

It's strange... if it was any other programme, I wouldn't mind spoilers so much. Well, except for Game of Thrones, but for that I've read all the books, so I know what's going to happen anyway. But any other programme wouldn't be an issue for me. Sherlock is just too good; I want the experience of seeing things unfold and trying to figure out the mystery as it goes along.

They had a viewing of A Scandal in Belgravia 2 weeks prior to the broadcast date and I found it pretty easy to remain unspoilered for those 2 weeks. Fingers crossed for the same this time. Having said that, it's probably easier for me as I work shifts and can avoid interacting with the outside world very easily.

Posted

I knew very little about what happened in series 2 until I got my DVDs, which was months after it had aired. The outside world around me doesn't talk "Sherlock"... All I did was make sure by way of online "research" that Irene had not been subjected to a soppy love story, because if she had, I would have skipped that episode. I didn't even know that Sherlock would survive!

I usually need a few spoilers to encourage me to look at anything new, so I'll be actually grateful if people share their knowledge about the new episodes here. If I do decide I want to be left in the dark, I'll just stay away from the internet for a while.

I won't even ask how you're planning to watch the new series before January 19!

No, I understand.  Any wait is hard, especially when you're trying to avoid spoilers.  (And at least the US doesn't have to wait four months like last time.)

Try having a husband who will only watch the dubbed version, which is going to air god knows when, and having to be careful not to misspeak till then . But then again, we are veterans at this - when AGoT's third book came out, I couldn't talk to him about the bloody (no pun intended) Red Wedding for close to two years .

Remember that "first official image" from Series 3 that I posted back at the beginning of this thread?  I just ran across what appears to be the flip side of it on this web page -- but note that there may be minor spoilers, depending on your level of tolerance.  I'll also put this photo in a spoiler box, for the same reason:

Thanks, Carol! Wow, that one is a lot better than the first. I knew it would look totally different in context.

Does anyone know if there was a new trailer or something? I haven't been on tumblr in a few days, and I just signed on and there are pictures, including a couple of Mustache!John sitting at a table in a restaurant talking to Sherlock (also sitting), which is obviously a continuation of the scene from the last trailer where John stands up from the table as Sherlock is walking in.  Also, there is a cast photo containing everyone (including Mary).

So, anyone know?

You can see those restaurant pics here, if interested:

OK, never mind, apparently they just released a bunch of pictures. You can see this here if you like, although this is surely not the original listing. Just what turned up in my google search.  I assume they were originally posted on BBC, but their website makes me tear my hair out, so...

There are two new batches of photos out today.  The batch of 30 with the group shot appears to be on-set photos from when they were filming Series 3, so I had posted that notice here on the Series 3 Filming News thread.

The mustache shot is from another release (described as spoiler-free), which I might as well link to right now, as long as we're all here anyhow.

It also came in on the Sherlockology newsfeed, but it's originally from ShortList.

Thanks for the info!

Anyone else feeling a little overwhelmed (in a good way)? It was like, we got NOTHING for the longest time, and then all of a sudden lately it's been a Sherlock explosion. They are trying to kill us!

Whooo, yeah!  I wasn't even around a computer most of today, and when I got home, there was all this stuff that had come in!

Maybe I'll just go off to a desert island till February .....  :wave3: ..... or a mountaintop, that'd be fine too.

Overwhelmed? Not at all! Excited? Yeah!

Oh, thank you so much for linking to those pics! There are some really nice ones among those!

The BBC has just released their official synopsis for "The Sign of Three" (which I shall swaddle in a spoiler box below the photo, for the faint of heart).  Note that they've apparently also announced the air time, 9 pm.  I got this from the Sherlockology newsfeed, but have not yet found it on any official BBC website:

Sherlock: The Sign of Three synopsis
The BBC have today released the synopsis for The Sign of Three which airs on Sunday 5th January at 21:00 GMT.
"Sherlock faces his biggest challenge of all - delivering a Best Man’s speech on John’s wedding day! But all isn’t quite as it seems. Mortal danger stalks the reception - and someone might not make it to the happy couple’s first dance. Sherlock must thank the bridesmaids, solve the case and stop a killer!"

Thanks!

Does "thank the Bridesmaids" refer to any particular wedding tradition? I never heard that expression before...

So the wedding will play an (I suppose involuntary) part in a case! Yay! Oh, can't we just fast-forward the days until January 1st? No, wait, that would mean skipping Christmas... damn.

John & Mary's wedding sounds like almost as much fun as John & Sarah's first date!

Wasn't the episode written by the same author who did The Blind Banker? Very promising...

Posted

Yay, I finally managed to answer my questions myself!

Trying to find out what this Bridesmaids thing means, I found this on "hitched.uk.":

"It is the best man's duty to respond to this toast on behalf of the bridesmaids (they mean the groom's), his speech should be light hearted and fun. It should be the high spot of the reception and it is very often his ability to make this particular speech, with humour and interest, that is the deciding chapter on the selection of the best man (no pressure then!)"

Uh... I don't think the person who wrote this had Sherlock in mind of all people...
