I didn't understand that part about

thanking the bridesmaids

, either, T.o.b.y -- thanks for posting an explanation (here's a link to that webpage).  I'm now somewhat less confused!

Wasn't the episode written by the same author who did The Blind Banker? Very promising...

Yes, I believe you're right, it's Stephen Thompson (who also wrote "The Reichenbach Fall").  So perhaps the coincidence I mentioned isn't a coincidence.

Another new entry on John's blog: http://johnwatsonblog.co.uk/blog/26april

I don't know how but I somehow managed to create this empty frame and I don't know how to get rid of it. Can anyone help me, please?

Edited by Carol the Dabbler
"frame" was {code=auto:0}{/code}

Not sure how you did that, Jana -- this editor has features that I've never used.  I got rid of the box by toggling into plain-vanilla mode (using the "light switch" at the upper left corner of the edit box) and deleting that line of code.  You might want to try toggling into that mode sometimes, just to see what your posts actually look like -- plus, that mode can be very helpful for doing things that can be tricky with the "user paternalistic" full editor (such as editing within quotes).  Just toggle the switch again to revert to full editor mode.

Anyhow, thanks for alerting us to John's new post -- I'm off to read it!

Well there!

I wonder if Mrs. H thumps him a couple times with that pan she's holding! Would serve him right if she does!

Thank you, Carol!  ;)

This is a trailer for Season 3 so if don't like spoilers....please....do not watch.

If Mrs. H thumps him with that pan, he's got it coming, big time.

"It's been 2 years."
Hmmm, interesting. In the Canon it was 3 years, if I remember correctly. I thought it would be a much shorter gap in the film.

A real trailer! Finally! Oh, Janie and Fox, thank you so much for linking to this. The saying about the milk pot is true, you know: The one day I don't obsessively check the world wide web for something like this, it shows up somewhere I wasn't even looking for it.

This state of happy anticipation is actually quite pleasant. The more they tease the next series, the less impatient I get for the actual thing...

They have an "interactive" trailer too; same as the one above, but with bonus scenes if you click on the red circles:

What I found most interesting is the brief scene that comes after clicking on "I want to know why". If that's a real clip, that sure looks like on-the-spot planning to me.

This is getting better and better... Well, I think I can forget my fears about Sherlock having suddenly matured into a nicer version of himself, unless he appears totally different in the episodes than in those little clips. Seems all a bit hyped up and "bigger louder faster" to me, but that might just be the effect of a promotional versus a 90 minute film. And besides, it would be once more true to the original. Mr Holmes went from being an obscure eccentric at Baker Street to an international hero who was consulted on all sorts of "big cases" and attracted quite a host of admirers as well as enemies. So I won't complain if this version grows professionally and if his adventures get more and more adventurous.

Late to the party as usual! I just posted this in a different thread because I didn't think anyone had seen it yet. I'm so excited by this, I just literally rushed my mother off the phone because I couldn't concentrate on what they were saying in the trailer with her yapping in my ear.

What I'm wondering is this...

"The one person he thought didn't matter at all to me, was the one person who mattered the most." Who is Sherlock talking about? Obviously not John, Lestrade, or Mrs. Hudson, as all of those were lined up for execution by Moriarty. So who was it that Jim didn't think to target that Sherlock would admit was the most important to him?

The camera goes to Molly when he says that, but I have a feeling he's not talking about her.  So... Mycroft? Or is Sherlock talking about himself?

Any ideas?

Why wouldn't he mean Molly? Interesting question, until now I was assuming he was talking about Moriarty not having threatened her because he didn't know she "counted", as Molly herself put it.

Why don't you think that Sherlock is speaking about her in that part of the trailer?

Yes, that is crazy and, I have to say, a little unbelievable!

I'm very interested in that one "extra clip" that keeps showing up after the red dot with the lock icon on it.  What's hidden behind that and how do we get to it?

I could be wrong, but

I'm just not buying that she means more to him than John or Mrs. Hudson. We've seen nothing so far to indicate that that could be true. Unless, of course, he's talking about her importance as a matter of how much she could help him. If he's talking about the fact that she was in a better position to help him out of Moriarty's trap than any of the people Jim targeted, rather than any kind of sentimental significance to Sherlock, then maybe he could be referring to her after all.

I'm really not believing that he's going to suddenly come back and reveal that he's been desperately in love with her or somehow emotionally attached in any significant way (as in, more than what he felt for John or Mrs. H) this whole time.  Not that I don't adore Molly myself, and I'm sure he does care about her in his way (as we saw in RF when he looked stunned to hear her say she didn't count, and his admission to her later), but that will be a total character 180 and I hate when shows do that.

But he has already told her that she had always mattered and that he had always trusted her. Yes, he could take her granted, that's human nature. She was also the first person John ever heard him ever apologize to. I don't think those things were lies, he was to contrite about it.

In my mind it would have to be either Molly or Mycroft.

I was thinking Mycroft, too.  But, the more times I watch that scene, the more I start to believe that Mycroft knew all along about him faking his death. And Sherlock's speech there gives me the impression that the person he's talking about is someone he was trying to protect.

I don't dispute that he does truly care about her.  But, from what he says in the clip, it sounds like he's talking about the one person he cares about, or that "matters" to him more than any other person. And I just don't buy that Molly is that person, no matter how fond he may be of her underneath all of his bluster.

The little red-dot clip that played when he said that did seem to suggest he was talking about John, but again, it doesn't make sense for him to be talking about John if he's talking about someone Moriarty didn't guess was important to him. Moriarty always seemed convinced that his little "pet" was the most important person to Sherlock, hence why Jim always targeted John first to get to Sherlock.

I'm suddenly wondering if Sherlock isn't talking about Moriarty at all when he says "the one person HE thought didn't matter to me". What if he was talking about John? What if this takes place after John finds out that Sherlock is alive and that he was the last to know, and he punches Sherlock and accuses him of never having cared about him or their friendship at all, and Sherlock is talking to Mycroft (or even Mary) and admits that John meant more to him than anyone else, and that's why he waited so long to contact him, because he was protecting him or was afraid of his reaction. Or maybe when John asks "tell me why", Sherlock is talking about Sebastian Moran (Moriarty's second in command). Maybe Moran knew Sherlock was alive but didn't make a move as long as Sherlock stayed away, and maybe Sherlock went to great pains to convince him he didn't care about John, so that John wouldn't be a target anymore.

Honestly, this whole thing feels surreal.  The idea that Sherlock would admit out loud to anyone that a single person is "most important" to him is such a 180, it makes me really excited to see what has happened to him the last 2 years to bring out this side of him.

These spoiler boxes are killing me, y'all.  Has anyone considered an actual spoilers-only, enter-at-your-own-risk thread where spoilers can be discussed freely without putting them in boxes? Maybe something you have to request access to with the subject boxes hidden from the main board (like the Irene Adler forum) so that no one can be inadvertently spoiled?

I have literally been bouncing off the walls since I saw that trailer :D

I don't know if this theory has already been floated around somewhere on the forum, but the pictures of Molly with what appears to be a wedding/engagement ring on her hand combined with what Sherlock said in the trailer made me think... what if, in order to keep Sherlock safe and as part of their plans after he faked his death, he and Molly started posing as a married couple? I have no idea as to why exactly that would help them, but the more I think about it the more I can't shift the feeling that it might be right. Here is my reasoning...

1.) Molly was clearly involved in faking the death
2.) Sherlock said he needed Molly specifically, not just Molly's help... possibly because he needed a woman to be his 'wife'?
3.) In the trailer, he says she was the one person that mattered more than anyone else, and yet I have to agree with Karie that I don't think he's suggesting that he loves her here, even though I do believe he cares quite a lot about her (as shown by his behaviour in Reichenbach). I think he's talking about her mattering more than anyone else because of how detrimental she was in helping to keep him alive and undetected. (and yes, I do think he's talking about Molly due to the camera cutting to her, coupled with the fact that I just can't see him talking about Mycroft in that way :D )
4.) Although I know some people have suggested that the man Molly was pictured with could be a fiancee or husband, I just can't see that happening, personally. A boyfriend, possibly, but nothing more. Though that could just be the Sherlolly shipper in me not liking the idea :D

It's a bit of an uncertain theory, but it's my theory all the same, though I'm probably totally wrong! :)

And since no one has mentioned it yet, can I just say how much I loved the little red-dot scene with Sherlock

looking at John's file, saying,"Well, we'll have to get rid of that" about John's mustache, and Mycroft gets all smirky and says,"We?" and Sherlock just completely ignores him and carries on about how old John looks and how he can't be seen with an old man.

He couldn't sound more like John's wife if he tried.  Did anyone else giggle at that? No? Just me? OK, then.

That is certainly an interesting theory and not one that I had considered before! If that were true, I'd be very eager to learn why such a ruse was necessary.  Unless, perhaps as his "widow" she were left to carry out certain will-and-testament things that were instrumental to his post-RF plans for bringing down Moriarty's web.

(Didn't spoiler-box that as it's all conjecture...)

OK, if you hover your mouse over Sherlock in that "get to know London" bit, a lock button pops up. Click it, and it will prompt you to type in a six digit code to unlock the locked content in the interactive trailer.  Supposedly the code is hidden somewhere in the trailer. I'm still looking for it.

If anyone figures it out before me, please post it!

Under a cut in case anyone wants to work it out for themselves. I'm watching the content now. So far, just some interviews with Moff and Gatiss. :-/
