A full transcript of Mark and Steven panel at Sherlockology

Neat!  A few things sort of jumped out at me (note: in this case, the ellipses -- those rows of dots -- aren't in the transcript, they show that I've omitted some words, just to tighten things up a bit):

Steven:  ... one thing we were kind of keen on was that Sherlock Holmes should be happy in his own skin. He should be actually someone who quite enjoys his life, because the fashion ... had come to sort of portray Sherlock Holmes as a bit of a manic depressive.... This results in some astonishingly brilliant work. Robert Stephens and Jeremy Brett [but] It isn't actually in the original, he's not really like that, ... it was time to throw the lever the other way....

Mark:  ... we wanted to have a sort of convivial environment. It's a big mistake to think that everyone has to be rowing all the time. They wouldn't stay together as a unit if they didn't actually like each other....

Maybe this is what bothers me about Series 3?  It's not convivial?

Steven: ... One of the problems ... is that Doyle wrote the master villain so well absolutely everybody copied Moriarty .... Because that character was so relentlessly imitated, largely by Ian Fleming, it would be a cliche to do it again. We [decided] to go a different way .... In Victorian times the idea of organised crime was new ... so a crime boss like Moriarty was a new terror of the age. We thought 'can we make a Moriarty who is more like a suicide bomber?' because that's the terror of our age, a man so deranged, and so bored and so evil that he'd even kill himself to win.....

Steven: ... when I was starting to write A Scandal in Belgravia, Mark said "what if Sherlock is simply ... correct in what he says - emotion, affection, love, desire, clouds his judgement and he must stay away from them." And that was the key ... to both Irene and Mary ... the moment Sherlock's affections are engaged he becomes utterly useless.

Moriarty killed himself to win.... Moriarty is dead.

Me too!  Just finished it.

One of the brilliant things about the convention as a whole is that it brings all the creatives and actors back together, which sort of keeps it alive for them as well as the fans.

We have a confirmation for next events

At the moment they are as precise as the confirmation for S4, though. :D

Dates and locations better include the US ...

I just received an email from SHERLOCKED this morning and this is the text from it:

We hope you had a great time over the weekend and enjoyed all the activities on offer.  We are pleased to say that all of our guests, and everyone involved in making it happen had a fantastic time, and as a result we are also pleased to announce that...

SHERLOCKED Will Return!

It's true, in the VERY NEAR future we will be announcing not one, but two dates for 2016 and one of those dates will be in America!

Prepare to be SHERLOCKED!

Philadelphia has a nice, big convention center... just sayin'...

Oh man, the possibility of it being hosted in the US makes me so torn between my love of Sherlocky things and my hatred of masses of people.

I love this response to that announcement .... "Welcome to the taffy pull between the east coast & west coast (NY vs LA) in the USA!"

It's a cinch it won't be in DC. Nothing worth attending is ever in DC, except the occasional presidential inauguration. :D

I would guess if it ends up east coast, NYC?

Personally I'd put it in Nashville, nice centrally located.
