It reminds me of fruitcake more than anything, if that helps. Anyway, it's dried fruits (but not, for some reason, actual plums) with spices and other flavors; notably alcohol. Traditionally it's made a year ahead so the whole thing has time to ferment. A bit strong for my taste, but then, I don't like either fruitcake or alcohol. :p Here's one recipe, but there's lots of variations.

Thanks for the recipe. I stopped reading by crumbled bread... For some reason I cannot even think about anything with recycled soaked bread.

The whole thing sounds like something life threatening, like fermented shark for vegetarians. duck.gif

And you're right, it is a bit like haggis, only fruit instead of meat. All in all, not something I would rush to eat......

i would, but not necessarily a whole one to myself.... and certainly not three of them!!

A slice, maybe! I wonder how it would taste with ice cream?

Haggis is a good description for it's looks.  I think I will take my late grandmother's fruitcake instead, less allergic even though I don't like candied fruit.

Okay, polished off the Great Game last night.

Questions:

What's a Lilo?

Sherlock says "she" sent the envelope containing the pink phone: "she" who?

What's an Oyster card?

"Not much cop this caring lark." I love the way this line sounds! -  but, er, literal translation please?

At the pool, Moriarity has John repeat what sounds like "gottle o' gear" several times. Does this phrase have a meaning, or is JM just being even crazier than usual?

"This caring lark" is Dr Watson. "Not much cop" means "not too much affection". The missing phrase is "given by".

So, the full sentence would be: "Not much cop given by this caring lark" and it means that the subject person is not showing affection to the object person although it is generally a caring perosanility.

tl;dr Holmes points out how (usually kind) Watson got that pissed off by Holmes that he got cold towards him.

Hey, Alaster -- welcome to Sherlock Forum! Thanks for jumping right into the discussion!

I love your avatar picture. Looks kinda familiar -- where is it from?

Hi Alaster! Welcome! And I love Judy too (sssh, don't tell Carol. :P ) :welcome:

I don't think there's too many things from Season 4 that fit in this thread (that I noticed, anyway), but this is one of them:

In T6T, what is the game Karim (Tarim?) and Sherlock are playing when Mary creeps up on them with her gun drawn? Something about Mr. Bake and Mr. Bun? Is that something the British audience would be familiar with, or is it just nonsense words?

One of these days I'll get around to watching the S4 episodes again, and make a proper list of things I need to have interpreted.

There seems to be a children's card game called Happy Families, basically Go Fish with a special deck. One card is Mr. Bun the Baker.

Sorry, no link (I'm on my phone), but Wikipedia has a Happy Families page.

The description's much more complicated than the game! And I suck at Operation; I get bored and start rushing.

What would be fun to play with Sherlock? Hm, wrong thread, maybe I'll go stick this question over in the Sherlock thread.

Does anyone know what make of vehicle Mycroft's government car is?

Posted

According to Ariane DeVere's transcript, it is -- a black car!  :D

I wonder if someone at Sherlockology might know?

Well, they say Lestrade drives a BMW 5 Series. Don't offhand see anything about Mycroft's car, though.

But as Arcadia implies, one could contact them and ask.
