The Critics' Choice Awards are voted on by American professional television critics.  This year, Sherlock has been nominated in four categories:

Best (Television) Movie:  Sherlock: His Last Vow

Best Actor in a Movie or Mini-Series:  Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock: HLV

Best Supporting Actor in a Movie or Mini-Series:  Martin Freeman in Sherlock: HLV

Best Supporting Actress in a Movie or Mini-Series:  Amanda Abbington in Sherlock: HLV

As an aside, the Best Actor category sees Mr. Cumberbatch facing Mr. Freeman (for Fargo, which has five nominations).  You can read more about all this on the Radio Times website.  (And I love their choice of photo.   :D  )

Awesome!

So deserved, especially for Cumberbatch and Freeman. They did incredibly well in His Last Vow. That coming back to life scene for Cumberbatch, and the Baker Street confrontation scene for Freeman... wow. Epic, really.

No nomination for CAM? And no director nod as well? Hmmm.

Good for the other three! Cumberbatch was at his best in season 3. (well, because he does comedy so well!)

And Martin Freeman deserves to win an award for every season! <3

BC's terrific at comedy, I'd give my eyeteeth to see him in more of it.

So BC can win best actor and MF best supporting actor,  I think that is fair.

Or Freeman could win both -- he's certainly doing a bang-up job in Fargo as well as Sherlock.  I have absolutely no idea what to expect, since they've expanded the categories since 2012 (when Sherlock was apparently not even eligible).  There are still no Best Director categories, though, Dragonslayer.  As for Mikkelsen's omission, that does seem a bit odd, since a single production can clearly enter more than one person in a category (e.g., both Freeman and Thornton for Best Actor in Fargo).

Speaking of entering more than one person in a category, am I the only one who's a bit miffed that Freeman was entered as Supporting Actor? Granted, the series is not called Sherlock & John like, say, Lois & Clark was, but I still feel John is just as much a main character as Sherlock <_<.

I always wonder how they determine that too, it doesn't always make sense. Altho I must say I felt like John was a bit more of a supporting character this time around. But not in the first two series.

I wonder who actually decides which category to enter?  I know with The Emmy's it's the applicants decision, which is not always the actor, sometimes it's the production company that chooses who, so perhaps CCA are the same?  Martin is brilliant in Fargo, which is on again tonight, my Thursday night highlight.

I assume it's Hartswood's decision, yeah -- presumably motivated by the desire NOT to have their boys pitted against each other.  This way, they could BOTH win.  :D   (Or Freeman could win for both Sherlock and Fargo, though I doubt that was Hartswood's motivation.)

But yes, I am still just a tad miffed.

Well, umm, actually Lois & Clark wasn't called Sherlock & John either.  :P

My favorite part in the last vow was when Cumberbatch came up those stairs defying death. This time fighting to save his friend vs. Leaving him hanging like he did in the study in pink. I mean the way that serious is linked together. Props to the writers!

That was my favorite part as well (from the moment when Moriarty says, "John Watson is definitely in danger"), and perhaps the best of Cumberbatch's acting, in my opinion. I love his comedy, too, but this was really breathtaking.

The Critics' Choice Awards ceremony is being broadcast live on the CW network, and those of you in the US can find your nearest CW station here.  According to our local affiliate, the awards will air this Thursday from 8 to 10 pm, Eastern time -- though one west-coast station shows it running from 6 to 8 pm, which may be a tape delay.  So you better check your local station's schedule.

Finally followed the link (thank you Carol, your amazing with the links) and its Fargo Vs. Sherlock in all 3 acting! Sorry Mary but I love Allison Tolman (Supercop Molly!)

I haven't seen any of the other shows (I am ashamed as a Whovian that I haven't seen An Adventure in Time and Space, it is on my B-day list but so is a lot of stuff). Has anyone? Not big on award shows but I'm going to watch this, usually a prequel of the Emmys.

Correction: just read an article claiming their not that accurate for Emmy predictions, partly because the TCA membership generates the nominations not the shows or networks.

You're welcome!

Regardless of how much correlation there usually is (or is not) between the CCAs and the Emmys -- considering how many CCA nominations both Fargo (5) and Sherlock (4) received, I'd be surprised and disappointed not to see them represented at the Emmys as well.  (Besides, Fargo is getting a whole lotta ink -- it's apparently this year's phenomenon -- so I'm glad that there are separate categories for Best [Television] Movie and Best Mini-Series.)

I gave up on award shows in general years ago myself, but will definitely make an exception for this one (as I did for the Emmys two years ago).

I, naturally, will be working. I always am working when there's finally something to watch on TV. It is my punishment for not liking Downton Abbey, evidently.
