Wonderful to see both Ben and Martin(2 nominations - Mr Greedy) up for noms in the 66th Emmy Awards, shame they are up against each other, for best lead actor, which I fear will go to Bill Bob Thornton, and I have to say WOW at Jim Parsons getting a best supporting actor nom too (for The Normal Heart), as well as his best actor in Comedy Nom , so he up against Martin for Sherlock.

I think MF will win one of them for sure... but I do hope it's a SHERLOCK sweep night.

Anything to raise the SHERLOCK awareness and fever is a good thing!

I suppose walking around with a set of Doyle's canon dressed as Sherlock and or John might help?  A Sherlockian flash mob at the local bookstore or library? A multimedia take over like "Did you miss me" only it's Sherlock and John's face all over the place?

That Emmy lineup sounds very similar to last month's Critics' Choice nominations, but I have no idea whether to expect similar results.  The CCAs are voted on by journalists, whereas I believe the Emmys are voted on by the peer groups (actors, writers, and so on).  The politics are presumably different.

Here is link to what I take to be a video of the nominations being announced.  It doesn't seem to want to load for me, but most of you will presumably have better luck with it.

And here is a list of nominees from Variety (with a link to the complete list).  The Sherlock ("Last Vow") nominations are as follows.  (Note:  I'm using "MorM" as an abbreviation for "miniseries or movie" and "MMorS" for "miniseries, movie or special.")

Television movie -- Sherlock: His Last Vow

Lead actor in a MorM -- Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes

..... against Martin Freeman for Fargo

Supporting actor in a MorM -- Martin Freeman as John Watson

Writing for a MMorS -- Steven Moffat

Directing for a MMorS -- Nick Hurran

Casting for a MMorS -- Julia Duff & Kate Rhodes James

Cinematography for a MorM -- Neville Kidd

Costumes for a MMorS -- Sarah Arthur & Ceri Walford

Single-camera picture editing for MorM -- Yan Miles

Music composition for a MMorS (original dramatic score): David Arnold & Michael Price

Sound editing for a MMorS -- Doug Sinclair, Stuart McCowan, Jon Joyce, Paul McFadden & Sue Harding

Sound mixing for a MorM --John Mooney, Howard Bargroff, Doug Sinclair & Peter Gleaves

Wonderful with so many nominations! In particular, I hope to see the following wins:

  • Best actors (leading and supporting). They were amazing in HLV.
  • Best music. HLV has one of the most hauntingly beautiful scores I've ever heard.
  • Best writing.

As for all the above: That scene in Baker St. with the Watsons' "domestic" is exquisite. I don't agree with everything Mary and Sherlock say, but that doesn't mean it's not excellent!

Yes, that domestic scene is fantastic... and when Sherlock goes to sit in his chair, that music swells up under him... amazing music.  Pulls my heart out.  Called "Addicted to a Certain Lifestyle."  I just love that piece of music.  Have literally listened to it hundreds of times.

As much as I would love to see MF win best actor, I'd rather see BC win and MF win best supporting so that Sherlock can begin a sweep in its categories.  How wonderful it would be if Sherlock just swept away with so much.

I think Best Actor will go to Billy Bob Thornton, which I would say sadly, but I think it would be well deserved he was amazing in Fargo, and because it's a new show it has that extra impact, whereas they have seen Sherlock before. Martin I think has a very good chance for Supporting Actor(is he really?) for Sherlock, I think his biggest threat though is Joe Mantello or Matt Bomer.

I would like Ben to win a BAFTA for best actor.

Hay, I'm still looking for a fan girl dress. I'm serious when I find it.. I'm going to sport it with a blue scarf & deerstalker.

Ok I feel really silly. What is a BAFTA?

British Academy of Film and Television Arts

So like the British version of the Emmys and Oscar's rolled into one,  except they have different award ceremonies I believe.

I didn't Sherlock nominated @ all for a BAFTA? I guess they have to put out a show 1st.

Sherlock has been nominated for several BAFTA awards in the past.  In fact, both Martin Freeman and Andrew Scott won (for Series 1 and Series 2, respectively).  I think there have been a few other wins as well, but I don't offhand recall who.

Thanks, Fox.  And a few other winners, too -- here's a complete list of all Sherlock's nominations and awards (including BAFTAs).
