Hi gang. Sorry, didn't mean to disappear for so long, but I'm on vacation and the days are just packed.

I have INTP friend (who likes MBTI a lot) and have to admit that he drives me nuts sometimes, because he says one thing and change to another and might change it again.
However, for him he likes to deny that he said what he said to the point that I want to bang my.. or his head.

I think this is my situation here ... I say stuff, then I say something else that some people think is a contradiction of the first thing. I think I'm being flexible, or seeing the nuances of a thing, or maybe just being flippant ... but they think I'm lying. Or say I am, at any rate, with great vehemence.

I don't think I deny saying stuff so much as I say that I don't remember it that way ... maybe because it meant something different to me than it does to the person who's angry about it?? Like I said, nuances ... people don't always hear the same thing the same way???

It's really only a couple of people that this has become a serious problem with. One, thank god, is gone from my life, but the other is here to stay. But I've had minor run ins from time to time with brief acquaintances, enough to make me question myself when it happens. Hence the funk; if more than one person sees me that way, doesn't that mean there's something to what they say? Am I really such a bad person as they say? I know I'm opinionated, but that doesn't seem to bother other people. Or are other people just better at concealing their annoyance with me?

Agggh. I hate this.

At any rate, after wrestling with it for a few days, I think I've just decided what I always do ... the other person is the one who is being unreasonable. ;) But I'd still like to know how I should respond when this happens. Which it will. I can't avoid this person. I dread the next time we meet.

And I agree with Toby ...  that phone call sounds creepy. And not identifying himself even after you asked him to? He's the rude one.

I never take calls from unfamiliar numbers or where the number is being withheld. If it's important, the caller can leave a message on our voice-mail and if I think it's important too I will call back.

Same here, I don't take calls from unknown numbers.

I even go a step further and don't take calls I'm not expecting. (Same with the door: I don't answer it if I'm not expecting someone.) Main reason being that once someone is on the phone with me, it could go on for hours and I don't always have that kind of time or energy to devote. If it's important (it never is) they can send me a text or leave a message and I'll get back to them in my own time; if they don't, I'll text them at some point to ask what they were calling about.

Not that I get many calls anyway, lol. I've only got a few people in my contact list.

For my friend's case, he is annoying :p because not only that he denied that he said what he said, he accused me of making it up.

We like to talk about hypothetical scenario; human, life, craps etc because both of us are biggest dorks around here and no one else enjoys talking about nonsense. In his term, we are autisting (blame him).

So he would make a point, then I build my counter reasoning around the point and we would go around the discussions, THEN he would deny making the point in the first place. That made most of my counter reasonings pointless because after all, he ended up with conclusion that is the same with mine, and insisted he didn't make the opposite point in the first place, and I was hallucinating.

I'm sure that's not what you did right? Because if you do, I'll come after you. XD Gah!!

Yah, it's annoying but we did it for fun and eventually, he did believe me but just tried to drive me nuts. I even resorted to make him repeated what he says frequently before I went in full nerd effort, there were times when I write it down and forced him to sign on his initial statement. :p

So if you are not like him, but merely go around your point and then accused of lying, I don't think that's your fault. They need to take chill pill I suppose. Did you show that you are not happy with the accusations or you just brush it off in front of them? Do they know that their accusations are uncalled for?

Regarding the phone call.

It's not my house phone/fix line. It was my mobile. I had to take strange call because I worried about two things at that time; the unwell relative and my residence status documentation that was in progress. Both news could, undesirably, come from numbers that I don't know. Anyway, I hardly get spam call from a mobile (texts, a lot, calls, mostly from fixed line).

I can't recall if he mentioned my name, I was distracted when I first picked it up, but he didn't show any doubt with who I am and he didn't care even when I suggested he got wrong number. The conversation actually went longer than what I described, starting with me being slightly more polite because I thought I 'forget' him, but I kept on insisting knowing who he was before answering any of his questions.

Anyway, maybe it's wrong number case, with overconfident cop wannabe, I have saved his number to be avoided. I think he is the rude one (Thanks!), I'll take precaution to be more alert and had just changed my lock (old one faulty anyway).

I get loads of junk calls on my cellphone.  Well, as many as I get on my landline, anyhow, maybe averaging one every couple days on each phone.

Ah, well ... that's what the other person accused me of doing. I told him I didn't remember it that way, and that's when he started screaming (literally, screaming) that I was a liar and I was accusing him of making it up. But I really don't remember denying that I said it, only that my interpretation was different from his. But I'm willing to concede that what he heard was denial. Which makes me wonder if the way I phrase things could be at fault.

In the present situation, it didn't get quite that far because we didn't actually have a dialog. She just picked at me several times until I lost my temper and snapped at her, and that's when she won the round, I guess. :(

So it seems our situation is similar but different.

My friend who does the thing that your friend accuses you of doing is doing that thing to me that I feel like I'm like you who are being accused. Get it?

I'd say, it's not good advice maybe, because I will die friendless, so if you are willing to take the risk, which I think you said you already did, if your friends make you unhappy, you don't need them.

Introspection is good but mostly the truth is, we are right, they are wrong. :p

Good friend should be able to listen and understand too.

Screw them who make you unhappy (not literally). You have us here, remember that! Remember that anytime you need someone to make you unhappy, I'm here! with tons of puns and shoes. :p

Okay, I have two for the topic.

Agree with your type?

Me, of course. Otherwise I don't post them without decorating it with swears and curses. :p

Nah, I don't fear emotions.  I find them annoying sometimes.

Posted

Why is that?  Do you think you don't have a very good handle on them?

Posted

That is true in a way. Partly. Both. I don't know.

I believe I have very good handle with my own sometimes and could be careless with many things (that normally moves others) but other times i have emotions that could unhinge me, too much to my liking. And I don't like showing them or even give a little bit of hints of what I experience to others, so I have to quickly run and hide, which is not always easy.

That is probably why I hate shows that try to emotionally manipulate me.

I think I'm that sort of immature who still think that having emotions equal to weakness.

Posted

Emotions can be a weakness imo. It all depends on how they are managed. All heart and no brain is as bad as being heartlessly clever.

Okay, that tears it, I'm definitely morphing from an INTP to an INFP. Noooooo, whyyyyyyy?????

(Actually, it's interesting, because I've always been on the borderline between F and T. But strong in all the others, especially Perceiver. I'm always amazed at how accurate the Myers-Brigg test is ... at least, for me.)

Posted

I am consistently INTJ, but I wouldn't say it's a dead-on description of me.  It is the closest, but I relate to a few other types as well, like INFJ and INTP.  I come out moderately balanced in all the traits save Introversion, which is almost 100%.  My N/S percentage is always the closest to being even, though I don't see an overwhelming reflection of myself in ISTJ.

If I were to put my traits in order from least to most balanced (i.e. which are strongest in me according to the test), I'd be ITJN.

Wait.. which one of the above tip you off?

For me, my IT are very high on 90+%, while NJ around 60-70%, with the test results being very consistent.

Eta: and yah, I find MBTI very accurate I had that 'Where have you been all my life??' reaction after years of thinking that I must be a anti social eccentric weirdo (as how most people assess me, but I never feel insulted, just shamelessly happy to make them shake their heads) :p

No worries, I haven't read them yet either. :p

Both of them. I would prefer to be unique (the artist's temperament there, I suspect) more than I am afraid of being used. I do get used, actually, and sometimes I don't even mind. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I avoid it when I know it's about to happen.

Annnd.... I'm the baby of the family. As my older siblings like to remind me. And I don't even understand what the INTP definition means on that one.

Well, to make you feel better, or maybe not, nobody likes it when someone is as unique as us. That kind of defeat the term isn't it? Especially when creativity is something we do to pay the bill and that is our competitive advantages. Wait, instead of making you feel better, you make me feel a bit gloomy. Eh.. eh.. !

Lemme dig some more thing and you decide if Thinker or Feeler is more suitable for you :p. (From random thing people create on internet without validation or expertise, of course! :p What else?) Stay tunned.

@Artemis, didn't know we are so called rare as well until this thread. But to be fair, I don't meet any INTJ female suspect in real life, they say forum is the best place to find us. He he he..

I don't read the articles as well.. let me know what they say when you do XD

You sure you don't want to be Peter Parker?

Wait, I think you are INTP.

My theory is you love puns but pretend not to.

(And don't say the opposite that this basically seals that you are not!) Nyah nyah.

"Curious but lazy" -- yup, that's me in a nutshell!

ESFJ, as pure as a child? If it means egoistical, childish and drama queen - queen bees extraordinaire then I agree.

By the way, I am back (and still allergic to FEMALE ESFJ around me). Someone dragged me back to Travian and now the obsession is back full force.

And trash on your choice of board game XD

Travian was supposed to be based on Settlers of Catan but after being immersed on it for years I would say that it is a combination of Risk and Axis & Allies. Caution, highly addictive, join at your own risk!

Looking at all of this I relate much more to ENTJ than INTJ. Still an introvert at the core though.  :goldfish:
