Oh, *bad word*!!!

Does Netflix ever sell DVDs?

Posted

No, they're streaming only. Can't you get it where you are?

Netflix isn't streaming only. They also have a plan where you rent discs through the mail. (Many more titles available than streaming, btw.)

I know this wasn't the subject, just wanted to set the record straight.

Interesting, it's streaming only here.

I see. I love the disc-through-the-mail service. My plan is one-at-a-time, but there are plans where you can get two or more, which is great for a family. You set up a queue (list) and as soon as you send one back they send the next one in your queue.

Maybe it's a US only thing.

They also sell DVDs, it turns out -- though I suppose they make you wait a good long while! Amazon currently has the first three seasons of Orange is the New Black.

I'm still disappointed that Cargo will apparently not be shown in theaters, but at least I should be able to watch it at home, if I keep my eyes open and snatch up a DVD when they're available.

And no, our internet service (though far better than we used to have) isn't quite fast enough for streaming, I'm afraid.

You can do that here through Love Film, but it doesn't suit me since I watch most things on my laptop which only has an external DVD player. I'm also too impatient, if I decide to watch something I want to watch it now.  :P

Do what, exactly?

Sorry, was answering Pamela and cross-posted with you. I meant rent discs by mail.

This must be a few months old now, but I never watched it before because, er ... I thought I'd seen it already. Anyway, a marvelous interview with Martin. Doesn't mention Sherlock much, but still fun and informative.

At somewhere around twelve minutes, he says this (while talking about his audition for The Office):

I had worked with Ricky [Gervais] on a sketch show earlier that year. He had written a few sketches for a sketch show that I did with a team of very good sort of young British comedy people, and Ricky's material was just obviously really funny -- it was genuinely funny, you know, in a slightly off-kilter way.

He's got to be talking about Bruiser (which he did just before The Office). I already knew that Ricky Gervais did a bit of the writing for that show, and have wondered if perhaps he did the Gary and Samantha sketches. The more I think about it, the more obvious it becomes to me that he did. Most of the show is funny in a very silly sort of way. Mind you, a lot of it is very good silly, but still there's very little, shall we say, character development. Whereas with Gary and Samantha, you kind of get to know the characters, even though their total screen time for the entire series can't be more than half an hour. Also, the humor has more depth, I think.

If any of you haven't seen Bruiser, some kind soul called dradra13 has compiled all the sketches that Martin Freeman was in (which average about half of each half-hour episode), here. Gary and Samantha (Martin Freeman and Olivia Colman) are the young couple sitting in their living room.

According to Variety, there's to be another season of StartUp this fall, and yes, Martin Freeman is to be in it:

Ron Perlman has been cast in the second season of Crackle‘s original scripted drama “StartUp,” joining previously announced cast members Adam Brody, Edi Gathegi,  and Otmara Marrero. Martin Freeman will also reprise his role from the first season. Perlman will portray Wes Chandler, an experienced, multi-millionaire businessman with a levelheaded grit. Season 2 of the series will debut this fall with 10 hour-long episodes.

Really? Wonder if they'll show how he survived ... or if they'll offer us several different scenarios then refuse to say which one is real... :P

I haven't seen StartUp -- but are you sure you're not thinking of Fargo?

Nope, Startup. It ends with

him facing what seems to be an inevitable and very nasty death. Sounds like it wasn't as inevitable as it looked.

IMDB released their list of people they would like to see as the next Doctor Who...Martin Freeman is on that list (not that the list actually means anything).  Seems a long shot but would be kind of cool.

Maybe Phil Rask will be their Mary Watson? The narrator from beyond the grave?

Our Benny used to be on that list too. I actually think Martin would be a more unusual choice.

I seem to remember the Doctors lasted longer, is the regeneration process not working as well anymore? :p

I'm curious -- is that one of those personal-opinion lists that any IMDb member can post, or is it some "official" IMDb thing?

Could you post a link?

That is a long link, lol, did I do it right?  Anyway, it is not a user-created list, it is posted by IMDB Editors.   Oh hey it edited my link down.  Smart Sherlock Forum!

Yup, link works fine. Thanks!

Admittedly I had a bit of trouble reading that on my cellphone, but I didn't see any explanations of why they chose those particular people. They made some interesting choices, so it would be interesting to know why.

There's a new gif set of a very young Martin Freeman if anyone is interested. Oddly fascinating. Here's a few.

And here's the odd little short film they're taken from:

How utterly, utterly bizarre. I don't get it. But I am still fascinated by how young he is. It's weird, I don't find him particularly good looking, now or then, but it's the whole cheeky chappy thing that makes him appealing. Plus now I have more of an image in mind for when I read unilock.  B)

Not Hollywood handsome, maybe, but he has a radiant smile. But I've always thought of him as "cute" rather than "handsome", which he probably wouldn't appreciate, but too darn bad. :p

I didn't get it either. I was hoping maybe it was British humor humour and you could explain it to me.
