Just read a good interview with MF that has me really enthusiastic about his upcoming movie Cargo. He states that it's a people story, not a zombie thriller (which he would not have agreed to do). And there's a photo of a scruffy-looking Freeman (shaggy swoop-free hair and something like a two-week beard) with an adorable baby in a backpack.

I'm on my cell phone or I'd post a link. You can find it readily enough by googling "What Cargo star Martin Freeman hates more than zombies." One warning -- there's an embedded video (which I have not watched) that is apparently the short film that Cargo is an expansion of. If you're at all averse to spoilers, you might want to skip that for now.

The article also mentions that Freeman will be filming two movies in the UK before Christmas. I suppose one is Funny Cow, which (last I heard) was due to start in October, and the other must be Ghost Stories. I assume that Official Secrets (with Harrison Ford) is a Hollywood production.

Another good Cargo interview with different quotes: just google "Martin Freeman is making Cargo in Australia (but don't call it a zombie film)."

This must be a few years old, but it's new to me, and very different:

There are ... or were ... devices that, um, stream (?) the, er, broadcast (?) directly (?) to your TV.

For anyone who doesn't have a wi-fi enabled television (in the US, anyway), there is a device called a Roku that will allow you to stream online content to your TV.  Roku comes with a Crackle app, so you really just plug the device in according to the instructions, let it log into your in-house wi-fi (you may need to grant it permission depending on how tightly you have your wi-fi security set up for your house), and then go to the Crackle app using the Roku remote.

Anyone know anything about Cargo? Is it a zombie film? Definitely looks like zombies in the background.

Freeman has been very careful to say that it's a film with some zombies in it, but it's not a zombie film. My take is that it's more about love. I'm not really a horror fan, but Cargo sounds good to me (and not just because Martin Freeman's in it). I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Here's the basic plot, as I understand it:

Australia has been struck with a zombie plague. The wife of MF's character has been infected, and has in turn bitten him. He knows that in about 48 hours he will become a zombie, so that's all the time he has to get their infant daughter to a safe place. Apparently he figures that the people least likely to be affected by the plague are aborigines living in remote areas of the Outback, so he sets out to find them.

So it's a zombie film only in the sense that the prevailing danger is zombies. It could just as easily have been space aliens or the bubonic plague. Maybe they figured this way they'd get the zombie fans in addition to their usual audience.

Ah that actually does sound good

The part about the zombies not really being the point reminds me of The Last of Us, the zombies are just something that create threat, to put the emphasis onto the relationship between the characters, it's not about the zombies. Interesting they made the child so young, that means everything is on Freeman's character rather than the interplay between a child old enough to talk and himself as a father. Definitely sounds interesting.

I've seen him in another movie (Nightwatching) where he was interacting with babies. He treats them like little people, rather than like props the way some actors do. So there will be interplay, even if not verbal.

I'm confident he will pull it off, just seems an interesting idea from the writers pov, not bad, just interesting.

Just came across this pic, beards aren't normally my bag but it really suits him.

This picture proves that they need to do a variation of the red-headed league where he, Benedict, Mark, & Jonathan (Anderson) all have red facial hair for a case & Benedict and Mark don't have their hair dyed yet.

meanwhile i am very sad for Martin that he broke up Amanda (he confirmed it in yesterday's interview). It must be hard to play happy families in the middle of a breakup

Did he finally confirm it?  That's sad.  I really thought those were the two who would make it for the long haul.

That's a good interview.  I always like MF's interviews because he has so much texture as a person; there are things I agree with him about and things that I really, really don't, but I get the sense that he thinks through what he is willing to put out there and understands the impact it might have.  I also respect the idea that he's drawn a bright line between public and private that makes sense to him; even in my own, completely non-famous world, there's a lot of pressure to "be authentic," by which people usually mean "share every stupid thing about your life."  I agree with the idea that sometimes you just have to have some things that are yours and yours alone.

The interview did leave me with the impression that, while a lot of fans assume that it is BC's fame that might slow down production of Sherlock, it may really be more MF not wanting to jump the shark.

I've seen the interview and I can't believe it!

Amanda is quite simply not denying it on her Twitter account, merely thanking everyone for their good wishes. So it's apparently true. I am stunned.

I fervently hope that's true, because I like both of them.  But that saying is practically required in every celebrity "divorce" announcement, along with the one where every pregnancy has the couple "over the moon."

At least they weren't in the process during S4 filming. That could have been really awkward for them.

Good heavens. I had no idea it was even a rumor. I'm pretty stunned too.

MARCH?! Why are we being told NOW?!

They really had no obligation to tell us at all, of course. But I'm guessing that they wanted to get past their own adjustment period before going public with the information. This is just one more reason I'd hate to be famous -- the need to share at least some of one's private life with the whole world.
