I know that, but I can't help but wonder how the writers remove Mary from the story. Does she die? Do John and Mary go through a divorce? If it is the latter, then there is NO way people aren't thinking how uncanny it is that they broke up in real life and fiction. Hence my question

Oh I see, so close to the S4 airing, you mean. (At least it wasn't just the day before -- that would have been *really* distracting.) Maybe they waited so long because they were actually intending to keep quiet till a while *after* S4.

There isn't any video of that interview, is there? I just wonder how the subject came up. Did the interviewer confront him with the rumors or even with some sort of evidence and put him on the spot? Gah, I'd *really* hate to be famous!

Yes, I mean so close to season 4. I agree that it would be distracting if we found out the day before. Yeah, I'd hate to be famous too. No privacy WHATSOEVER and everyone criticising what you wear, no thank you!

This really hit me. Just recently we've been "assisting" James Rhodes (BC's friend, the pianist) through a divorce on Twitter, and now this. (maybe I'm stupid, but for the lack of a real family ties, the virtual "friends" sometimes feel like some kind of distant relatives)

I'm asking myself why Martin chose to give it away now. And how it comes that nobody have notice him moving out. Well done as for keeping private life private.

I suppose it gets to the point where it just has to be said before one of them moves on and gets accused of cheating. Time wise is a bit iffy though, saying it now almost seems like a publicity stunt, which I'm not saying I believe it is, but I'm sure they would have been better off quietly mentioning it in the summer or something when the hype over the new series was still a ways off.

I agree with you pseudonym. You're not stupid J.P., I don't have real family ties as well and value my virtual friends more than my family.

It's not a spoiler to me

I mean have you SEEN the latest photos of John and Mary? It just screams unhappy couple to me.

That article doesn't actually spoil anything in my opinion. It says the Watson marriage has problems. Well, duh. Every couple with a newborn baby has problems. Especially one with as much baggage as John and Mary have. They didn't even write anything about a separation. Maybe the characters will make it all up again and the last we see of John and Mary is another hug and kiss and heartfelt mutual apology.

All the photos screem unhappy to me. And you are spoiling it now too for those who don't want to know anything.acute.gif

IMHO, there's no good time to announce a split for a public couple.  I think the best you can do is get as much of the nasty parts done under cover, and then just make the most discrete announcement possible at the last minute that you can, which seems to be what MF and AA have done.

As far as people seeing someone move out, I firmly believe that people with money can get about 97% of their life activities done without accidental press coverage.  I think most of the time that you see someone hauling furniture out a front door or seemingly having a quiet shopping trip, they are perfectly well aware that the photogs are there and may even have participated in allowing the coverage to promote some sort of narrative they want to have in the public.

I remember a few year ago, I think it was RDJ and his new baby and his family on a beach somewhere, and the photo was "leaked" to the press, and I later read coverage that the shot was taken on a known "public" beach frequented by celebs, and they tend to give out a heads up and then allow some "candid" shots to be taken.  On the other hand, wasn't it Alan Rickman who managed to hide his marriage for something like three years?  If you don't want it public, there are ways to keep it private.  I have to think that MF/AA may have separated and wanted to be sure that's what they want, then decided that the situation was permanent, so time to confirm it to the press.

Sounds plausible

I don't think the article has spoilers, and I won't go any further than Toby just did, but yeah.  The Watson marriage had problems at the end of HLV, so that's not a spoiler.

Now, don't click the spoiler box if you don't want my speculation on something.   :D

I think Moftiss would have to be very creative to pull off a narrative arc that worked so hard in S3 to get us to like and accept Mary, only to have her disappear during a divorce. If they plan for life to imitate art, they would have to have something else going on to make it plausible in-universe, and I doubt that will have any bearing on the MF/AA relationship.

Regarding your "spoiler," agreed, there would have to be more to it than that.

He was on Graham Norton last night, but nothing was shared - there was an 'exclusive clip' which was actually the one we've already seen with Lestrade and John joking about Sherlock being like a baby. He did, uh, put his bum into Will Smith's face... so there's that.

I'm guessing you folks have seen this by now, but if not...

When Will Smith gives you a 10, you know you've got something... :d

It's a 'hands off' sign because he (Will) had only just finished groping Graham Norton, then Helen Mirren attempted to 'tempt' him into groping her, which he carefully didn't, followed by that little moment, when Martin also tried to 'tempt' him into it.

Seriously, how does any man say "no" to a chance to grope Helen Mirren?

Here's the latest on Martin Freeman's upcoming projects:

Cargo is in post-production with a release date sometime this year.

Ghost Stories is also in post-production with a release date sometime this year.

Black Panther is currently filming, with release dates in 2018.

Funny Cow is finally filming as well, but without Freeman (who had stayed with the project for more than two years' worth of delays, but apparently left just recently, presumably due to the conflict with Black Panther).

Official Secrets is in pre-production with no release date as yet.
