My mind palace would be about the same if I had one.  So what can we deduce about this room besides the obvious mess & Sherlock fan (and that it doesn't belong to johnspec)?  Can we figure out who it belongs to maybe?

The large notice board on the right is full of what looks like instructions for the day, all in different chalk colours, like post-its on a fridge door, and the empty hangers on the left might suggest that all the clothes lying about were thrown down to be sorted and put away due to a change in seasons. A student's room at university?

Posted

Nope, not a student's dorm room, although the owner of the room did do graduate studies from this room when it was in less disarray.

- There is a space problem in the place he/she stays.

The multiple layers of stuff on the shelves is too familiar, so does the attempt to use upper part.

- The person is over 40 years old? This is quite a book collection. There are people who still like physical stuffs but probability is higher that younger crowd tends to be more digital. Books, and the classic tube of empty dvd room normally used to burn data instead of hard drive. The rest of the room is not known though. And the writing on the board seems like someone quite young trying to get organized with reminder.

But, I maintain my guess that this person is over 40.

- I don't really understand the mess. Although it's full, it seems like the person tries to be neat. So I guess the mess might be accidental, especially the lamp's position. I have few things running in my head that I counter myself; dog?(doesn't seem so, because it should be more messy), thief making a visit (no, bcs why they leave the shelves with potential hiding spot. And Camper's question doesn't point to that). So I'm puzzled about the mess.

Could this be a converted room?

Maybe a unused room being converted to store room, however it gets more clustered as time goes by because the person is too busy to have it arranged.

The paint make me wonder as well, the condition makes me think it's rented because the paint seems unfinished, but I'll go with not rented/owned property because I used to rent and move a lot, no way it is convinient to rent with that many stuff (unless it's 221 Baker Street).

Is he/she a teacher?

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, the forum's server rejects all my efforts as : This file was too big to upload, 195 bytes allowed.

Nobody should be deprived from the joy of posting images. I'm not computer savy, machines hate me, and I fight with them all the time, but when they are not looking, there are ways.

I suspect you try to use the attach image button? I used that, but it doesn't always display correctly and I remember there are limit.

Here is what you can do..

- Go to here

- Click 'choose file' and choose pictures from your source.

(Optional: you can choose display size ftom 'resize')

- Click Upload Now

You will need to verify the captcha (just fill what they ask you to fill to prove you are human) and voila. The website will generate the link.. choose the one for forum, copy the whole link in your post.

It's not as complicated as it sounds. Have fun.

P.S. If this post is not allowed, (in case I shouldn't 'promote' a website), mods, please help me delete it. ;)

P.S. There are a lot of option website for image hosting. I like this one because you don't need to register anything.

Loved reading your guess Van Buren.

Person is under 40 by a few years but prefers physical to digital books, place is owned, walls & lamp are on purpose, definitely a space issue & an organization issue, no pets of any sort & no known thieves. It is a very much used room despite the mess, & the person who sleeps in this room is a teacher among other things. Oh and the blank CDs are used for car copies of the CDs on the shelves on the upper right and other stuff as needed. With the information given, do you all think you can figure out who's room this is?

Don't chase me around the web for this, but could it be your sister's? (Quietly tiptoes away)

Nope, she's over 40 and has a cleaner room.

If it were your spare room, you should see my basement!

Is it your hubby's man-cave, CAMPer? ^^

Cheers!

I think if you expect us to know, it must be you, or a famous person. I know very limited famous person, so maybe I rule it out. I don't know if you are a teacher, but I think there is a mention you used something in a class before and remember that you are below forty, not sure if my memory correct.

Is it your room?

P.S.

If yes, I want to say that it is a very interesting room, full of character. Mine has.. nothing.

If yes, why...why...???? You put Sherlock on the unreachable top shelf, why??!!?! XD

Nope, his place is less messy while still being messy.

Yes it is my room and no Sherlock is not unreachable. I can reach him just fine. Also the room did get a slight cleaning some time after this. It's still a disaster but the closet doors close. So it's your turn Van Buren.

Well, I believe it still much better than Sherlock's attempt of spring cleaning.

Okay, here it goes..

What is this place?

Clue: A country in Asia obviously, it's Hong Kong. There is no need to understand the writing. I only know a handful of them too. It wouldn't be a game for someone who can read Chinese obviously! XD

Hong Kong's smallest restaurant?

The mice in my house would disagree with you, they love to eat paper.

Okay, two guesses at once because I've been away for awhile... :P

Schoolroom? (because some of the posters look like charts)

or

Accountant's office? (because of the green lampshade)

You are lucky. The mice in my country adore cable, short circuit is mostly caused by them chewing through cables. No kidding.

Fast learner!

Smallest school? No.. :lol2:

Nope.

Accountant and green lampshade? XD How come my brother didn't have it when he was one?

An accountant's office/real estate broker.

Sorry Inge. Shadow has it.

SD, what gives it away for you?

Well done, your turn if you have something to post. Anyone else can do so anytime as well.

The fortune teller doesn't only read palm, they also able to give advice on 'lucky dates' etc, like wedding date, moving house, business etc. Dates are auspicious for earlier generation Chinese.

This is a better version of fortune teller. There is a stretch of road-side fortune teller in particular street, armed only with couple of plastic chair, foldable table and makeshift tents, appearing at night.

Disclaimer, above is screengrab from internet, as I don't feel comfortable taking human's pictures, unless I ask first, which I don't feel like doing most of the time. Didn't try one out either.

Should have asked about S4 release date.

Because he doesn't like green, maybe? :D

Ooooo, nice one, Shadow.

It is between fengshui consultant, traditional Chinese medicine healer/doctor, calligraphy artist or fortune teller. I did not see the usual diagram for fengshui, no storage cabinet full with little drawers for nature-based medicinal ingredients, no paintings with calligraphic lines on them, plus there are the red sun image on top of the front door & several chairs for customers.

I will post a picture later. ^^
