I know the background is brilliant, isn't it? So eye-catching. If only that bloke wasn't in the way blocking it.

The coat!  This reminds me of a painting, or something... what is it...

Not that exact shot but the scene always reminds me a bit of this.

Good idea with the search.

Still, I have a funny feeling that I have seen a statue exactly like Sherlock in this photo. Which probably means I have seen this photo too many times.

Looks like it to me. Be prepared for VBS to show up soon.

Khaaaaannnn!!!!

That's the flight suit, but who's that grinning goofball in it? Must be the stunt double. VBS will be so disappointed. 😉

I half expected her to appear the second I posted it... I'm shocked it's gone under her radar this long.

Pretty sure I posted this before, and fairly recently, but what the hell

Maybe because he is wearing helmet and seems nice that my radar didn't go off. Khan doesn't play NICE! :P

Or maybe because I'm bugged by.. what is it ...gastric?? Stomach flu or whatever..

Felt nauseous since morning with zero appetite (no..not pregnant!) and someone is twisting my intestine, beat it to the wall lining of my stomach and twist it again. Not fun at all when it's busy day at work with multiple meetings. I'm prone to this shenanigans but this is not fair since I have been eating regularly for a while now, it shouldn't happen, right? right??

If only there is something to distract me.....OH LOOK, KHANLOCK!   hubba hubbaaaaa

God look how skinny he looks.

I'm always partial to this one.

Those are all favorites of mine, too. I note they're all from the same episode … cinematography matters, folks. It's no accident that he looks so tall and skinny and fluid in TLD but not the other two..... *sigh*

I wonder how they select which director gets which episode? I'd love to have seen what Hurran would have done with TFP.

But isn't it the Director of Photography (or whatever DP stands for) who handles the cinematography?  I'm sure the director has input, but the details would be up to the DP.  I remember MF commenting on the cinematography in Great Game (which even I could tell was gorgeous) and crediting, I believe, the DP -- in any case not the director.  Or maybe there's a designated cinematographer?

The director gets most of the credit for a movie or a show but in actuality I think there are always *two* directors on any shoot--the oft unsung DP is at least as important to the proceedings.

It seems easier to describe what the Director of Photography (aka the cinematographer) does on set all day than what the Director does, really.  I think of the director as working primarily witht the human element . .the actors . . talking about motivation and dialogue and so forth and keeping the machine of the production oiled as it were.  The DP has the oversight over the technical aspects and would advise the director about the scene blocking and the lighting and how a shot should be framed and etc.  Really, a smart director will let the DP have his/her head and not interfere too much.

You're both right, I wasn't thinking clearly. Too busy swooning over Lean 'n' Lanky up there.

In my own defense, however, the DP for TLD (Neville Kidd) was the same as for the other Hurran directed episode, HLV … which is also one of my favorites. Must be a magic combination!

It's when he sees Moriarty in Kitty Riley's place, isn't it?

You are right, the blind is the same. I thought so too but can't seem to pinpoint the exact second, seems like different angle somehow.

But I know this one!

I think the image has been narrowed slightly. And/or the black/white filter makes him look more angular.

I love how happy he is in the first episode.
