Odd -- I was able to see all of the emoties in your first paragraph on my Unread page on my laptop at home.  But now that I'm reading your actual post on my phone at Mom's, I'm seeing only part of them.  The second and fourth ones are just little boxes with X's in them, and likewise the pan.  Maybe my phone doesn't have all the latest goodies?

By the way, since when does "shoe" start with "ho-"?

It doesn't have to start with those letters, the code just has to have those letters in it somewhere, in the correct sequence. Not very efficient, imo.

Eurgh, go to bed utterly exhausted, wake up at 4am, still utterly exhausted but unable to back to sleep. 😡

Also, spending the evening wading through ferns over head-height has made my eyes swell up. Lovely. Damn you hayfever.

I have those nights. Yuck.

Are ferns something different in Wales than they are here? I've never heard of any so tall, and didn't know they could give you hay fever. I love fern, so frilly and carefree ….

Parts of Great Britain have loads of bracken, a type of fern which can be very tall.  I've seen them from trains, but have never encountered them up close and personal.

Yup. Thing is on most walks I go through ferns (or bracken 😋) and never had this trouble before. There are alerts out at the moment though saying hayfever is especially potent due to the heatwave we're on the cusp of, so maybe that's why it's so bad. 🌿

I love ferns of all kinds too, they remind me of being a little kid roaming the mountains looking for slow worms. Yea, not very environmentally friendly in this day and age, but back then I just liked exploring and seeing cool things.

I've got to get up the effort to drive to the shop to get cat food. I hate having to go out just for cat food - forgot to buy it on Friday.

8+ feet!??!!! Hokey smokes. We have tons of bracken around here but I've never seen any higher than my knees. I think I'd just as soon keep it that way. Sounds like a good place for bugs to hide and jump on you.

I hate to drive to the shop for anything. I don't understand people who shop everyday … it would drive me nuts. I go without stuff as long as I can just to lessen the trips I have to make. But, yeah, cat food … being out of that is a life-threatening emergency. Or so my cats always told me.

Yea, if it was food for me I'd just find something else and wait until tomorrow, but cats... if I don't feed them they'll trip me up at the top of the stairs as punishment.

I did feel a bit like I was in a jungle and something might come leaping out. It was part of a nature reserve so I was keeping an eye out for anything iffy, loads of people have been bitten my adders recently, and though I'd like to see one I'd rather not get chomped.

I don't mind grocery shopping at all, in fact, I rather enjoy it. I have been told that this is typical for Germans.

Buying clothes on the other hand frustrates me. Or shoes.

I hate anything that involves going to the shops. I tend to do my grocery shopping online as often as possible, my clothes and shoe shopping is definitely done online (as long as there is a free returns policy). I get my cat food and cat litter from a bargain shop, where I go about once a month and stock up so I don't have to go back for as long as possible - this morning they had four bags of the cat litter I get on the shelf, so I bought all four bags.

Does anyone else have this problem or have any ideas how to fix it - every night, without fail, my quilt gets bunched up into a ball inside of my quilt cover, so every evening I have to root around to find the corners, match them up with the cover and give the whole thing a shake to get it back into quilt shape, then I usually have to repeat with the top corners. It's like having to replace the cover every night, it's really annoying. I recently sowed ribbon on the top corners of my quilt and the top corners of the cover to tie them together in the hope it would stop it happening, but although they stay tied, and so are a bit easier to match back up, my quilt still gets into a ball every night. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't know if more ribbons on the bottom corners would help.

I must be German, then.  :D  One of the first things Alex and I do in a new town is check out the natural-food markets.  I understand that with some people it's the art galleries.

@Pseudonym -- I've never done the duvet thing at home, but I've slept under them in hotel beds and guest beds, and have never had that problem. My first guess would be that the fabric is slippery.

Still better to shop for groceries (once I know what to buy) than shopping for clothes.
Shopping online is rather useless with my weird shape.

My back is so sunburnt my waistband feels like a cheese grater. I put suncream on my front, intending to be lying in my sun chair reading all day, then got distracted chopping up branches, with my back to the sun, and unbeknownst to me getting burnt to a frisp. The shower this morning was agony.

Must be a combination of fried and crisp?

Du you have Quark in Britain? If not, use cottage cheese or sour cream. Or a thick yogurt. Have someone smear that on your back or if you're alone, spread it thickly on a dish towel and lie down on it. Very soothing. (And for vegans, I bet soygurt would work too).

Yup, we have Quark. Never heard of that remedy before! I'm in work now so I'm making due with aftersun and pain killers. :)

I never heard of using dairy for sunburn, but several web sites agree.  Interesting.  Aloe vera gel is good too.

Cottage cheese was our emergency treatment for a bad sunburn when I was a kid.

I think my problem with grocery shopping is the tedium of it. I shop in several different stores just to try to break up the routine, but I'm so familiar with all of them by now that the thrill of discovery is long gone. :-) Oh, I see emoties are working again today!

Posted

Of course they work. It's Monday.

And soured milk (which is almost the same as cottage cheese) was our ONLY treatment for a bad sunburn when I was a kid.

I think Quark works the best but I have no idea why. It's even used in some hospitals over here although food items like honey etc are generally being banned from wound treatment.

The real evil of summer, more than sunburn... FLIES. I hate them so much! Just cooking my dinner with the back door open to let the steam out and they keep dive bombing towards my wok. B*gger off!

You don't have a screen door?  I'm surprised -- your climate is so mild that you could have windows and doors open way more of the time than we can here.  And screens are the only way to keep the bugs out.
