Pulling this over from a S1 thread because of the discussion about a reaction to John's initial entry at the pool in TGG.

Maybe John and Jim are cousins and John is smarter than he lets Sherlock think he is.  That would be an interesting plot twist.  Now to finish this theory over in a series 4 thread. :)

So 1 or both dads married into the family causing the different last names and it's very possible to not look like your first cousin let alone any of the relatives on the mutual side (as we've discussed similarly with siblings).  As I said above. John is smarter than he lets on.  You know he has some brains because he is a doctor. Because he's shared a flat with Sherlock, he knows Sherlock very well.  He can feed info to Jim while he's at surgery because Sherlock would be less likely to find out.  Mary could be in on it do to her previous profession and help hide the evidence of the familial ties.

No.  Just no.  Not John.  (Seems like Moftiss have already defamed him sufficiently.)

Seriously, they haven't even decided WHICH stories they would like to follow up on, or what the ancillary plot lines would be, according to what Mr Gatiss replied at the convention yesterday, and that we should expect a back story concerning the two brothers, which was ruthlessly deleted from the Great Game about their past history that we should expect in thirty years! Does that gentleman think he will live forever? Racking a subject of the crown has been abolished since Cromwell, so they had better make good on their promises or quit while they're still ahead of the game!

Oh, dear me, Mr Holmes, dear me! Moriarty himself didn't like the song in TRF, and Mr Gatiss said another thirty years! There will definitely be some new players, then, because our beloved Mrs Hudson will not make it until then, even if all of us do, which is highly questionable. The discussion session with Mr Mikkelsen and Mr Graves was a mix of fun tinged with a bit of sadness, though!

Oh yes, there is some trolling going on despite what they say although in all fairness, I don't think Moffat is a troll.  He genuinely seems to be too busy for that sort of thing.  He'll put his son on that one!

Agreed that there is trolling going on.  Moffat may not be a troll but he has a sense of humor and pulls our strings on occasion.

I had an impression that practically nothing what they said can be trusted. :D

What I do believe is the statement, that they have used all the best and most popular canon stories, and now try to (or will try) to find little overseen gems and put them into their narration. Which might mean that they will (have to) deviate from the canon, at least story-wise.
