Hi, petnurser!  Where is Somerset?  I have lived in Cambridge, North Attleboro, Brookline, and Framingham -- though all that was years ago.

We are sandwitched between Fall River and Swansea. My kid goes to Aggie (county-wide school) so I was in N Attleboro yesterday for a sleepover. Small world!

Your English is probably better than mine at times and it is the only language I speak!

I know how you feel! When did the rest of the world go and learn English?!?! (We Americans haven't spoken it for years... :p )

Well, maybe you are right: I still can understand standard US English much better than the British ancestor. After listening to Sky News, listening to CNN is so relaxing... this is an improvement. :P

That doesn't stop some Americans from having a secret inferiority complex, though.  ;)

Which ones?!?!?!? I don't think I've ever met an American with an inferiority complex in my life! :lol5: KIDDING, KIDDING!!!!! (I'm sure there must be one or two... :p )

I'm glad to see so many of you sharing your location on this thread.  It's interesting, and it's often helpful to know where somebody's from.  So y'all might consider also displaying your location under your avatar picture (where mine says "Indiana, USA").  You can be as general or as specific as you like.

To display your location beneath your avatar picture, click on your user name at the top of any forum page, then click My Settings on the dropdown menu.  Scroll most of the way down on the Settings page, and you'll see a box for Location, so type that in.  (While you're on that page, see if there's anything else you'd like to add or change.)  Then scroll down to the bottom and click Save Changes.  That's it -- each of your posts (even ones you've already made) will now display your location!

Germany, western part, not so far away from Cologne, if anyone knows where it is :-).

Posted

Yup, I visited Cologne once (that was a long time ago, but I doubt that it's moved!).

You are totally right, it's still where it has always been incl. the cathedral and the Rhine :-).

By the way, I find it cool that you were in Cologne. May I ask why? Jut holidays?

More or less, yes.  At the time I had a penpal in Pakistan, and we had never met.  She wrote that she was going to be visiting relatives in London and Bonn (actually, Bad Godesberg) that summer, and I'd always wanted to travel overseas, so of course I flew over and met up with her.  We took a day trip from Bonn to Cologne.  I recall the cathedral and a lot of quaint old streets.

Ah, so you were into penpalling then, too? I also had lots of penpals during the 1990s and I also met a few, but they all were from Germany. Are you still in touch with the Pakistan girl?

We both moved a lot for a while, and lost track of each other (after having been penpals for about fifteen years).  I'm pretty sure that I found her on Facebook recently, and I messaged her, but have gotten no response.  She appears to be doing well, which I'm glad to see, and she's now living near London.

I live in California about 10 miles east of Los Angeles.

Isn't ten miles east of Los Angeles -- still more or less (even if not technically) Los Angeles?

Well, it's "greater" LA, I suppose, and it's still in LA county, but then from the beach to Palm Springs (over 100 miles) is basically one giant city except for a little stretch of desert.

When we lived in Camarillo, Alex and I didn't make much distinction between, say, Glendale and Long Beach -- anything on the other side of the pass was "Los Angeles" to us.  But then again, we weren't local folks.
