You mean the man Sherlock thought was Molly's friend? I didn't miss that :P

Friend?  Miss Hooper has love on her mind.

Since I'm shipper trash and all of my other ships are dead in the water rightt now (THANKS CARTER!), times Sherlock undermined Molly's relationships (real or imagined)...

I believe this forum is somewhat old, but I read through some of your ideas and loved them! Personally, I like to think Molly gave Sherlock some kind of special access keycard (or something) to the morgue. It's something that is valuable because it risks a lot on her end and would mean a great deal to him, helping him to bypass the system even more than he already does. It would save time and energy and keep him from interacting with (live) humans. The box is thick because Molly (being Molly) would have been careful to set but the keycard in some kind of slot or special stand. I mean, look at how carefully she wrapped it!

I really like that idea.  I think if Molly did that, Sherlock would be more likely to be attracted to her. (Not because of the gift, but because she understands him that well.)

Unfortunately, I always have this suspicion that, at that point, she really doesn't understand him all that well and has gotten him some tedious "girlfriend" gift, like cuff links or a tie pin or something.  And yeah, I know he doesn't wear a tie and I don't think he wears French cuffs.

Nope, all his cuffs have buttons, remember? Molly may not know or understand him all that well yet, true -- but Molly is nevertheless Molly, and her idea of a "girlfriend gift" could very well be something practical.

Hello, Sherlock'sCuriosity, and welcome to Sherlock Forum! There's no need whatsoever to worry about reviving an old thread. I realize that some fuddy-duddy forums frown on it, but we get some of our best discussions that way. Besides, I like your idea!

I like the idea of a custom stand for the card -- but even if she hadn't thought of that, she might well have used a somewhat oversized box on purpose. I've seen people do that a lot with small gifts (such as gift cards), just so people won't immediately know what's in there. Guessing is half the fun!

I can't make up my mind whether I think Molly's gift is probably something totally cringe-worthy, like a tie with Santa on it, or totally practical, like some special piece equipment for Sherlock's kitchen laboratory.

Probably the latter, because Molly is far from stupid and lab work / forensic pathology is mostly what she and Sherlock connect through.

Btw, I have this headcanon that they know each other from university and that she has had a crush on him ever since.

I don't know that my headcanon has gotten that specific, but I also think they've known each other for a while.

Hi there, Sherlock'sCuriousity! I think Molly's pretty observant, she would have given Sherlock something useful like that, I bet. She'd have noticed he didn't wear ties, for example.

It's funny (to me) that so many people think Sherlock and Molly go back aways, because I always thought in ASiP that they'd only recently met. Recently enough, anyway, that Molly didn't realize yet what an abrasive personality he had, or that he was singularly disinterested in hooking up with anyone. You'd think if she'd known him for years she would have figured all that out already.....
