I really need to rewatch this episode. It has some of my favourite elements in it (Sherlock's drug use, that whole drug den scene, Janine - love her!) but I watched the whole series again and then, when it was time for HLV, I couldn't do it and switched to Dr Who. Why can't I watch it?!

Because he is 'dead'?

And because it is sad to see that he is so human.

It makes him vulnerable, he is so selfless and committed to his vow.  For me it's difficult to watch because it reminds me of people who spends their life as outsiders and when given chances and reasons, will dedicate their devotion wholeheartedly.

Being a best friend, John's willingness and genuine friendship had opened up the side that he tries to bury deep down because he is afraid to get hurt. The irony and the realism to life.

Because then it's over and there's nothing left to watch? When we did the "rewatch" recently, I felt like there was a big hole in my schedule afterwards! (What, no new episode of Sherlock to look forward to?) I really am a sad, pathetic person........

Are you sure you don't mean committed? :P

I was going to make a sad, pathetic goal to watch it by this weekend, but maybe I'll change that into a dedicated, committed goal instead?

Do, then come back here and tell us how you feel. Empty? Sad? Hopeless? Then we'll remind you why you watched it in the first place. :D

I think I just did ....

Sometimes I run an episode while working just to listen (but I tend to sneak a peek and watch a big chunk of them again..)

HorH, I recommend you try that if HLV is difficult to watch for you.

I think it's one of the best in audio and soundtrack. Maybe after that it would be easier.

Regarding ahem.. doing stuff with Janine.

Sherlock actually trusts first hand experience more than theory.

Remember stag night?

Maybe he will ask Molly....

Oh, there is a quite steamy statement about this made by BC in an interview.

I made a mistake by reading it again and the Part II as well.

Love how BC views Sherlock and I agree with everything he says..

If he does ask Molly I hope she slaps him again. Then loans him her copy of Elle. :lol4:

You know what's annoying? He makes a statement like this and than wonders why the female fans react hormonal.

I mean you must have been made of wood and have no imagination at all, not to react that way.

Harmlessly bathing, I think :P . But what did they do in his bedroom that made Jeanine put off her clothes ... ??? *whistle*

Not what Janine hoped for, I think: "just once would have been nice..." It sounds as if she was referring to what you usually do in bed with no clothes on if you are a couple, doesn't it?

I'm still wondering whether not sleeping with her was some very weird form of being honorable on Sherlock's part, like fake proposing is okay in his book but sex inside a fake relationship isn't. His morals seem to be a bit old-fashioned - if he has any at all.

Somehow, I don't believe he wouldn't have been interested. He looks very pleased with himself over Janine, and he indirectly called her "beautiful" during the wedding speech. I love how immaturely smug he is over the whole affair, it's as if he's saying (to John and himself and anybody who will listen) "See? See? I can do this too, I could have a girl-friend and even get married if I wanted to, but I don't want to, because love is a human error. I'm definitely not alone because I can't find a woman, and this is actually a hot woman - HA!"

It's adorable somehow. Good thing he pulled this off with a tough cookie like Janine who is really self-confident and has a great sense of humor. Just imagine him doing something like that to Molly! But he wouldn't, of course... I think Sherlock doesn't actively want to hurt anybody, and he only followed through with the plan to get into Magnussen's office by seducing his secretary because he recognized Janine as a fellow trooper who would eventually see the funny side and not be mortally hurt. He showed a lot better knowledge of human nature there than when he assumed it would be totally fine and hilarious to make John believe he'd killed himself and then turn up years later, expecting a shared laugh over this brilliant little prank.

Totally agree with this assessment.  I think I've said before, but the first time Mr. Boton saw HLV, he said that Sherlock didn't consummate the relationship with Janine because he was being honorable.  But I do agree that Sherlock was having a bit of fun over having a girlfriend and maybe making out and having his girlfriend sleep over.

The whole first 20-30 minutes of HLV sometimes strikes me as Sherlock proving to John that he can do anything he wants without John there.  "Look, John, I never took drugs when you were here, but I can handle it, and if I want to do it now for a case, I will."  "Look, John, you got married but I could do that too if I really wanted to.  In fact, I have the prettiest bridesmaid at your wedding interested in me, and she's spending the night and we're taking baths together and everything.  You're boring and married and off the market now, and it's my turn to be 'Three Continents Sherlock.'"

It's the bit where John says, "You have a girlfriend," and Sherlock replies, "Yes, I have."  Janine was in the bedroom or bathroom getting ready; Mycroft was gone.  There was no one to put up a front for.  And yet Sherlock presents it to John like he's proud of it and just dying to see how John processes this.  (Which, to be honest, is something that I can also watch over and over; John processing Sherlock with a girlfriend is a wonderful thing.)

People often point to the doorway kiss scene and how Sherlock's face returns to "working" face as a signal that he is somehow repulsed by Janine, but I don't think so.  I think if he were, he would have leaned over to John after "you have a girlfriend," and whispered "yeah, I'll explain later; just play along."  But he liked the idea of John thinking that he could get a girlfriend, and I don't blame him a bit.

I agree that he liked the idea of John thinking he could get a girlfriend, and I don't see him as repulsed by the kiss either.  But on more recent re-watches it seems like he's not really into the kiss like he could have been (without looking like the Sherlock/Molly kiss in TEH).  He didn't seem to enjoy it.  Almost as if it was the kissing version of his "working" face

Nothing, in the history of reality or cinema, has ever looked as good as the Sherlock/Molly kiss in TEH.  If that's the standard by which we are measuring kisses, we are all sorely lacking.  :-)

So hot. Even in reverse. *fans self*

That's because it was an imaginary fan-fiction kiss, between Sherlock Holmes and Molly Sue!

I don't know.. somehow I believe he is being honest.

What Sitty said, that IS his appeal, at least for me.

When someone is aware that he is appealing, normally he would lost his mojo. Bahahaha.. but that is me. Guys who think they are 'average' put more effort into their personality and humour, and that actually what make them sexy.

Agreed; men who "know" they're attractive generally leave me cold. (Tom Cruise, just sayin'...) There's a line from a Joni Mitchell song that I always think of: "You know the times you impress me most are the times when you don't try."

I wonder if that's what Janine liked about Sherlock; she thought he wasn't even trying? More fool she, I'm afraid. There, back on topic. :P

I didn't say he'd made it up to impress us. But maybe he should better stay away from this kind of comments... for sake of our sanity. :D

Wow! What's all the excitement about? So far Benedict has proven a normal male of the species. At the beginning he tried to deflect her line of questioning, then he simply got back into Sherlock mode ( which must come easy with the thousands of lines he has had to learn for that one part) and launched into an extremely funny Sherlock-as-a lover explanation.

Hopefully some Molly- or Irene- writing fan fiction author will incorporate it into their story. It would make a change! And he rather put paid to all the fanciful Molly speculation in another thread here with his last sentence!

After that Elle interview, I just waited to see the fan fiction come out, because I figured absolutely everyone would try writing it, with ever possible pairing that Sherlock could have.  But, other than a few extraneous references to "long violinist's fingers" that have shown up, I've seen no one really try to turn that description into fan fiction.

Ya know why?  Because BC wrote fan fiction himself with that explanation.  And he says he doesn't understand the genre!

And he kept saying I instead of Sherlock in the Elle interview so the fanfic could technically be considered somewhat autobiographical even if accidentally.

Now, how can we relate this back to HLV to get us back on topic again?

What are the chances that Sherlock may have used similar lines on Janine to woo her?
