That could actually be an excellent sci-fi story. I'm trying to remember who used to write stuff like that ... but of course I can't (because that would be TOO EASY ... sigh.)

Oddly enough, written gore doesn't bother me much, whereas I will run from even a whiff of it in film. I guess because my imagination isn't as vivid as a movie?

So glad it was a dream. If it were real & happened to you, we likely wouldn't know about it.

So glad I resisted the urge to read it then!

My imagination tends to work overtime, so I sometimes have trouble remembering whether I read the book or saw the movie.  And as Sherlock says, you can't kill an idea once it's made its home here.

True. The couple of times I've witnessed something truly gory and/or horrifying, it took decades to wipe it from memory ..... well, to the point where I have to consciously dredge it up, at any rate. That's why I avoid it in my entertainment.

Me too.  Nowadays when I see something particularly nasty coming, I turn off the television.

I consider my imagination hyper active. There is a reason I have the particular Sherlock quote with explanation in my signature that I have. It's also the reason why I paint and occasionally write.

(Now to go off and get the brain focused on what it is supposed to be doing. ;))

Bendy, that dream sounds awful! You poor thing!

I'm weird regarding blood and gore. In real life, I think blood is rather beautiful and I don't mind the sight of wounds or human organs at all. But I cannot watch violent scenes in films and if forced to, they haunt me for days. I think it's the brutality that really bothers me, not so much the mess. I have an almost compulsive tendency to imagine a situation from the other person's point of view. I wouldn't necessarily call myself empathic in the sense that I know how others feel, but I automatically feel what I would it it were me getting hurt.

So no horror movies for me and I have to look away during battles.

My tolerance is higher for writing, but still not huge.

You guys wouldn't last one season of Supernatural, then! Good plot aside, there is quite a bit of blood violence in the show.

I have watched Supernatural a few times .... I think I would like it if I could see it from the beginning, but the amount of time and money involved in doing so rather daunts me. At any rate, I haven't seen anything there that disturbed me, but I haven't seen it often. But I was unphased by the gore in Buffy, is it any worse than that?

I'm not sure why some things bother me and not others. It may have to do with how realistic the situation is. I was sickened by the face biting scene in Cape Fear (Nolte version) for instance; but when Willow used her supernatural power to rip off Warren's entire skin, I was shocked but not revolted. I can take blood spurting during a gunfight but not an operation. I loved the first season or two of CSI, but after that the autopsies became too graphic for me. I can watch Aragorn slice and dice Orcs, but I doubt if I'd be able to watch Orcs slice and dice Aragorn. And I can't bear to watch anything bad happen to animals, at all.

Well, at the start of Supernatural (that is, Season 1), it's not all violent. There're some instances of peril, but it isn't overly violent (probably because at that stage the budget was very small). Fair warning, though: as the show progresses it gets grittier and grittier, with more violence and gore, 'cause it expands its focus on supernatural creatures to include angels and demons as well.

I think I can handle gore pretty well, it's just that if it's, say, an animal being mutilated (or even the suggestion of harm to an animal), I cringe. I cringe more at sudden bursts of violence (like a scene in which a guy was cut in half by an elevator shutting on him) than prolonged scenes of it. That's a bit of a bad thing, probably. *shrug*

Congratulations, Detective! What will you do to celebrate?

We're all a bit forgetful, it would seem -- Bendy, you actually made the grade back in late March.  Arcadia and I (among others) already congratulated you two months ago!  But that must have been right around when you weren't on here much, so you can click on that link and go read our well-wishes now.  :applause:

In that case, I take my congratulations back. :p Don't want to spoil you.....

How many consulting detectives needed to get Sherlock to come here and berate about the exclusivity of the job he invented and that he should be the only one?

(I want to see!)

And since there are more of you now, can you all help the world to crack the biggest mystery of mankind, the whereabouts of the other half of socks?

I would say they gather together and plot to take over the world but I'm no consulting detective.

Speaking about gore, anyone watch Spartacus?

Wow I'm such a dunce. I JUST noticed that I hit 1500 posts and became a Consulting Detective.  :lol2:

Yep.  I thought that was a while ago.  Life happens and no I won't quote :sherlock2: out of kindness because I'm bit more :watson: like in that regard :)

I think all the missing socks are in Sherlock's sock index.

Saw a lightning bug (firefly) flashing tonight -- first one I've seen this year.  (Actually, I was pretty sure I saw one this afternoon, but of course it wasn't flashing, and I didn't get a close enough look to be sure.)
