An interesting article for the introverts among us - a funny comic manual inclusive :D

It's pretty conclusive to me: introverts are brainier. XD

Read this one in The Darwin Award couple of years ago, and agree that this case deserve a Darwin Award.

"A true story from the Associated Press."

I believe it's a true story that Dr. Mills told that story, but I'm not convinced the story he told was true!

It's not.  :D   According to both Snopes and Wikipedia, Dr. Mills made up the story as an example of the complexities that can face a medical examiner.  He never meant it to be taken seriously.

There are a couple of Twitter accounts - FAKE Sherlock accounts - that are absolutely hilarious.  I'm suspecting they are written by the same person, but sometimes the repartee between the accounts will make you laugh out loud, and that's always a good thing.

@Genius_Holmes

and

@The_Whip_Hand

Seriously funny writing between those two accounts, and sometimes they can really get going.

 So this is what happens when I sit in bed with the wind howling outside and the rain beating against my windows, feeling sad and thinking too much:

- By following a series of Wikipedia links, I end up reading a lot of articles about religion

- I begin thinking that if I believed in a god who has a plan for the universe, life might make more sense and I'd feel more reassured, safe and hopeful

- I consider becoming religious

- I realize I am contemplating religion as a means to further my own selfish ends and wonder if that's not probably a huge sin

- I conclude that my case is hopeless

Sometimes, I wonder if I'm going mad... :P

If you get tired of worrying about that, consider this related thought:  There is no such thing as pure altruism.  Why do people donate money to charity or volunteer to help others?  Because it makes them feel good -- which is their reward.

And if that doesn't drive you nuts, how about this:  If a misanthrope donates or volunteers, even though s/he hates people and therefore derives no satisfaction from helping them, does that makes him/her an altruist?  So the only way to be an altruist if to hate people?

On second thought, that doesn't work either.  The only reason that a misanthrope would help others would be if s/he were a masochist -- in which case s/he would enjoy deriving no satisfaction from his/her good deeds.

So far, I believe there is no selfless good deed, outside family (and that is arguable as well).

Love to be proven wrong though, but never yet.

It's all about your genes surviving. Even if it is only a part of your genes. (Selfish Gene is apparently proven not to be 100% right, but it was an interesting reading, a true perspective-changer)

*Sigh*... I suppose that's true. It's kind of sad, though. And I hate it when people use this as an excuse to make absolutely no effort to be a good person.

Where is that quote I saw in a magazine the other day -- "Do it anyway!"  :)

Or that bumper sticker: “Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty.”

By the way, my laughter above was directed at Carol's tortuous reasoning, not your post, Nova!

Oh, dang!

Why you guys have to take it away from me? XD

I don't mind..!

P.S I have a colleague who is very lady like, wears skirt, proper behaviour, never shows her gum when she laughs, and her name is Nova.

Me, is 180 degree opposite from every angle possible.

I shall call you 'Super' then. Or maybe 'Van.' As I am FAR too lazy to type the whole thing! :p

It's unladylike to show your gums when you laugh? Urk, I'm dooomed.... (not that I wasn't already...)

Buren is good! :)

Maybe not ladylike but it's human..

To my experience, some people find it charming

and only one person said it's better not to show it.

Oh, he is not in close circle, who wants someone who can't handle gum? :)

Are we talking about chewing gum here, or the gums that one's teeth grow out of?   (Not that it makes much difference -- I'd just like to be sure which mental image is appropriate.)

For shame, Carol, a true lady doesn't chew gum! :D

Oops, sorry!  So what does a true lady do with her gum -- pop it, or blow bubbles?  :D

Thank you for the final confirmation:

I don't want to be a lady!

Sounds awfully not fun at all.

This cracks me up and reminds me of a male friend's comment:

"I don't know how they do it. Those ladies. They would do anything to keep their appearance. You see how they drink? It reminds me of alien. They open their mouth, a set of teeth would come out to bite the straw without any contact with the lips, just to preserve their lipstick."

He was actually mimicking the gesture which left me with headache because I laughed too much.

Errr... sorry! (For anyone who do that)

Dear me, can't recall ever seeing anyone do that, but of course they would.  (Come to think of it, I hardly know anyone who still wears lipstick.)  It's like the "starlet smile" -- just widen your eyes and drop your jaw.  No muscles involved, so no threat of wrinkles!

Well, there must still be a high demand for it, judging by the drug stores around here... I try it out occasionally, but I've never had much success with the damn stuff. Either I use an old-fashioned one that is lovely and creamy and feels great, but leaves ugly smudges everywhere and makes my husband look ridiculous after kissing, or a new-fangled gel that, once applied, will not come off with water, cream or anything but patience and time, but makes my lips feel dry and besides is impossible to correct if I've made a mistake while applying, which always happens.

I will never be a lady. I can't even do basic makeup. I swear, I trip and twist my ankles if my shoes have any kind of heel, I am generally clumsy and my voice is loud. Oh well. There are more important things in life... (But I love the word "lady". It sounds so elegant and dignified and old-fashioned in a good way.)
