A pizza place that doesn't deliver had better serve outstanding pizza. Picking up a pizza that isn't worth the effort is maddening.

Yes, I would imagine!  We haven't been in there since it was a different business, but it's a good-sized building, so we both had the impression it was mostly an eat-in place, presumably with a take-out option -- more of a pizza restaurant.

Does anyone else have access to a Flatbread pizza joint? If you do, and haven't been to it, GO. Extraordinary pizza, worth the trip!

Er, well, go after all this is over. If they're still in business by then. Drat, I just depressed myself.

I think I've heard the term used generically (i.e., pizza made on a flatbread base), but I assume you're talking about a chain?  Added:  This one?  I take it you've encountered them in Maine?  They don't seem to have discovered Indiana yet.  My favorite around here, by the way, is Noble Roman's -- terrific Sicilian-style deep-dish!

Yeah, that's the one. The one in Virginia closed, wah!!!! Different, it's not really pizza in some ways, but sooooo good.

Crud, now I'm wanting pizza.....

Yeah, our Noble Romans have been closing over the past few years as well.  When we moved to this part of the state, there were three (maybe four?) within a 30-minute drive, in different directions.  Now it looks like there's only one left, though fortunately it was one of our favorites.  The company seems to be reinventing itself as a "craft" pizza chain, so even our favorite place may close sometime soon (when their franchise contract comes up for renewal?).  At this point there are only a handful of the new "craft" locations -- mostly in the high-rent districts, of course -- so I haven't even seen one yet.  I'm pretty sure their pizza is good, but even more certain that it's expensive.

While Alex and I were going for a walk today in the small town near us, we heard what I would have sworn was an ice-cream truck coming up behind us, playing "The Entertainer" (like this).  I turned in disbelief to look, and it was a guy in some sort of custom golf cart, waving at us.  He was followed by additional non-boring golf carts, maybe a dozen in all, with the people in them tooting and waving.

One driver was the Easter Bunny, so apparently the folks in the nearby golf community had decided to put on an Easter parade for their neighbors.  We saw them again later, at a distance, driving up another street.  Nice!

Those are some strange shaped Jammy Dodgers....

The meaning of "jammy" is clear enough from FL's photo.  I've heard of corn dodgers, the LA (né Brooklyn) Dodgers, and the Artful Dodger.  But what shape is a typical jammy dodger, and what are its other defining characteristics?

It took me way longer than it should have to figure out what those cookies were supposed to represent, lol.  For some reason all I could think about were the handprint turkeys kids make around Thanksgiving.

You're way ahead of me, then -- it wasn't till you said they represented something that it dawned on me.  Oh dear -- not sure I'd care to eat them now (feeling just a tad queasy).

Two shortbread biscuits filled with raspberry or strawberry jam, or other fillings.

Thanks!  So it's like what we'd call a sandwich cookie here in the US, only with jam in the middle instead of the usual icing.  We have some nice cookies made with jam here too, but it's traditionally located in a depression in the top of a single cookie (what some recipes call a "thumbprint cookie"), rather than being between two layers.

It has something to do with Jesus.

The mark of the crucifix, one presumes. I'm with Carol, I don't think I could eat one.

It's weird, this thread didn't show up on my "unread contents" list yesterday even though it had unread contents. That seems to happen to me every once in a great while, anyone else notice it?

It doesn't happen to me. Although I noticed that while I get an email update, I don't get an update from the app, perhaps I should delete it and reinstall the app. Hopefully it will be fixed.

Are you referring to Tapatalk?  You don't actually need it, as long as you have a browser on your mobile device.  I've had no trouble accessing the forum from either Chrome or Silk.

Yes, I am referring to Tapatalk. I kinda prefer the app instead of the browser.

I don't often look at the Unread Contents list, but on rare occasion, all the unread threads will mark themselves as read after I visit one thread on the forum.  I don't know what causes it.  It's an odd glitch.

We got a snowstorm on Easter Sunday, nearly 10 inches of snow.  It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

*Sigh*.

Posted

Wow. We used to get spring snows (the daffodils looked so pretty with their snow caps  ) but never anything like 10 inches. Was stuff blooming already?

Posted

Not too much.  We could finally see the grass again but that was about it, lol.

Yeah, that's about what I remember from living in Washington State; Easter was at the beginning of spring, where it belongs, not in the middle of it.

It's been a perfect spring in Virginia this year; didn't start in February, like it usually does (dumb daffodils) but waited properly until March ... and then stayed cool, so the flowers have chance to show off for awhile. And enough rain to keep the pollen down but not oversaturate the ground. The dogwoods are just past peak, the azaleas are just getting ready to put on their show.

I assume this means we'll have a brutal summer....

We're having a beautiful spring here too.  The ornamental pears and the magnolias are particularly spectacular this year.  (I just keep hoping that we don't have a snowstorm like we did two Aprils ago.)

Speaking of ornamental pear trees (what most people around here call 'Bradford' pears, though technically that's the name of just one particular variety), they're popping up in wild areas and vacant lots now, obviously planted by birds (which love the tiny pears they bear).  We have one in our meadow.  I'm starting to wonder how long it'll be before they're considered a weed tree, and people stop planting them in their yards.  Although they are very handsome trees (even the volunteers have a distinctive teardrop shape, pretty spring flowers, glossy green leaves, and nice fall color), they tend to kinda self-destruct after about 25 years, because of the weak crotches that create the teardrop shape.  There are other ornamental pear varieties with much stronger branching habits, but nobody seems to plant them any more, only the 'Bradford' type.
