I mean the ones Carol is referring to. Yours, I can see fine.

This is really weird.  The URLs are still in the code, and the photos are still at those addresses.  *sigh*  I'll see if I can fix the images.  Later.

Unless it's just Arcadia & me that can't see them (she said hopefully).  Anybody else able to see all the photos on this thread?

Don't all talk at once, now!

If you're interested in those photos, I see that the link above each one is still good, so you can still get at them, it's just more work.  And when I have a bit more time, I will try to remember to repair the hotlinks so the pictures will show up right in each post.  (Feel free to remind me in a few weeks!)

I think those photos are all working now!

It doesn't bring us any further, but recently I have seen a picture with the doorbells on 221B door. Well, the writings say: 221a, 221b and 221c.

Which - I think we have had a discussion about it already - doesn't really makes sense. But I can confirm that it was indeed intended that way.

Logically 221a should be Speedy's and 221b Mrs Hudson's door. Or rather the other way around, as the numbers are increasing from left to right.

I gather it used to be owend by...was it the Abbey National Building society?  They had a member of staff dedicated to replying to all of the letters to Sherlock Holmes...very English!

Maybe the secret owner of 221 Baker Street and surrounding property will turn out to be -- Mrs. Hudson, who has invested the profits from Frank's drug cartel.

I found out another detail about 221a.

This seems to be the entrance to the kitchen. John just walked in hearing Mrs Hudson's laughter about the telegramms.

But in that scene, just after Neilson falls out of the window, Sherlock walks through a different door,

Actually it must be the back entrance to the house through the kitchen.

So when Sherlock walks in, cleaning his shoes, he probably just has been fixing her bins. :D

Aaaand during Sherlock's absence there was a little renovation

(which in fact was probably Arwel running out of the wallpaper and other props being taken for other productions)

It seems that both doors are on opposite walls, because in that scene below, the camera

"walks" into the kitchen trough the door from the fist pic.

The set shot from... somewhere.

Is that a TV on top of the refrigerator? Is that what people DO?

Maybe Mrs. H. likes to listen to the TV while she washes dishes?  (She prosumably has a larger set in the living room for when she wants to watch.)

I’m wondering about the glass door between Sherlock’s bedroom and the bathroom.

We have mentioned it so many times that it is a bit incovenient if more than one person is living there.

I would say that in RL, if there would be no ventilation system, you would need the door for ventilation and to have some light in the room. But it is no RL, the whole flat is pure fantasy. So who had this funny idea and why?

Okay, I can guess the first question, but the second... thnoclue.gif

It's not a clear glass door.  It is opaque and they are quite common in UK bathrooms.

But you would still see a silhouette through that glass and I would feel awkward knowing someone (especially that one someone) see even a silhouette of me nekkid. thbath.gif

Plus you would hear much too much trough that glass, and I don't mean happy giggling in the bathtub.

You can hear a lot through a solid wood door too, though.   If John doesn't have his own bathroom (or toilet at least) upstairs, then I feel sorry for him if he needs to "go" at night when Sherlock's in his bedroom.  But John's been in the army -- so he's presumably had a lot of the modesty trained out of him, which may be just as well in this case.

What I find interesting about that door (besides the frosted glass) is that many fanfic writers seem to forget that door exists and have Sherlock use the hallway door whenever he uses the loo right after being in his bedroom.  The hall door makes sense if he's coming from anywhere else in the flat, on the rare occasion he realizes he needs to grab something from there after he's already left his room, or if they are making Sherlock doing something construed as romantic with whomever they are pairing him with.

We love us too. :P

Back to 221B... from the pilot.

Recently I've found a model of the first flat:

evyajgj5.jpg

As you see the stairwell is quite... complicated with a weird in-between level where I suppose Sherlock's bedroom would be. Or John's? Because there is another door in the kitchen and it really doesn't make much sense...

But  it seems they used this model for the set of UP anyway.

ybxhxzzx.jpg

"1" is a door to the next floor, "2" is the door of the mysterious in-between floor.

The ground floor seems to be almost the same.

As is the kitchen, with one difference: in the old version there is a hatch in the wall between the kitchen and the stairwell "3" (in the second pic shown from the stairwell). I've seen such things between kitchen and dining rooms, but here it makes no sense at all.

If you live in the UK or possibly Europe (but definitely not the USA), you can actually request and get a FREE sample of the Navarre wallpaper.  Now I just need to find someone in the UK to get it and send it to me.

That fake iris/French lily thing is not worth wasting your hard-earned cash over; not for you, not for anybody! It's just too over the top for real life.
