Okay, as promised the Case of a Yellow Smilie:

I was wrong. The smilie is the same until TEH. For some reason it changes in HLV, where it is hardly visible and slightly different.

What baffles me is this post from Arwel Jones made before shooting of S3. Especially the second one, which seems to show the backside of said smilie with small explosives attached to the wall - as needed to make holes, which made me think they must have made the wall anew. But why did they need making the holes again, when they still had the old smilie?

And along watching one wall, I also took a look at the opposite one.

The collage below shows the shelf right from the fireplace.

I'm kind of obsessed with the black and white photo hanging in the corner in SIB. I cannot see what it is, and it makes me crazy.

OK, I know this is a case of seeing and not observing, because I keep trying to answer this question for myself every time I watch and I keep getting distracted by the plot.   :) But, where in the love of Conan Doyle's ghost is the TV in that place??

(I know that Sherlock is sitting in his chair in its normal orientation in TGG yelling at crap telly about the turn-ups on the guy's jeans, but I've never been able to actually find the TV in that corner across from him.  Am I completely blind?)

I think it became risky for the TV staying on the shelf that was clearly bending under the weight, so to prevent it from falling (or maybe from it falling down for the second time) they put it in the corner behind John's chair.

BTW, am I the only one who thinks that John's chair is the ugliest monster of a chair in the world? Where the hell do you find such things?

BTW, in the photomontage in the previous post,in the 4. pic, you can see where the unframed portrait was placed in the time the TV set took its place on the shelf.

Or.... just send the photos to Arwel and ask him on Twitter.

You've both stumped me, I have no idea. I've wondered about the TV too, but then I'm still having trouble figuring out where the door is in relation to the rest of the flat, so I'm no use anyway.

Doesn't that TV in the last picture look bigger than the other? Maybe once Sherlock got into crap telly he decided to buy a larger one. On wheels.

Carol - where is that link to the map of the interior of the 221B flat?

Carol - where is that link to the map of the interior of the 221B flat?

I found the link several pages back in this thread.  I've included the post below.

... I keep rotating the main part of the flat in my head.  I keep picturing the smiley face wall as street side even though it's not, it's adjacent to it.  I've seen the CGI rendition of the main floor of the flat so I need to keep that in my head.

I assume you're talking about the 3-D floor plans (click on each small picture to see that view considerably enlarged).  Before seeing those, I had absolutely NO idea of how everything fit together in that house.  In my mind, it was all just sort of vaguely there.  But I've studied the plans well enough that I now have a pretty clear mental picture of the second [American], alias first [british] floor, and the best part is that it all seems to jibe with the episodes.  The person who worked out those plans (apparently just from watching the show) must have an amazing ability to visualize and integrate -- plus the willingness to put in a whole lot of work on both the research and the graphics.

Hopefully the forthcoming behind-the-scenes book will have more info of this sort, and we're expecting our copy any day now.  Has anyone got theirs yet?

No, see the link above.  Sherlockology has a good floor plan

Damn, still don't have a Twitter account, and don't intend to have one. I hate Twitter.

Maybe the old one really fell off the shelf. :P

Maybe Sherlock got addicted to daytime telly and sprung for a new one?

Maybe Mr. Smiley has simply faded over time?

As for the reconstruction, I'm thinking someone said that some of the set had been damaged in storage -- maybe that wall flat was one such item?

Do you mean The Chronicles?

I don't recall it having a floor plan.

If it does, I haven't found it. But then I haven't really read the book yet, either.

I am still hoping that they'll decide to publish the original screenplays -- and now I'm adding a book on the sets to my mental wish list!

In storage - that would suggest it happened between the seasons. But in TEH the old smilie is still there.

Here once more a better Pic of the old one:

And the new one:

It looks like it were made for promotion shots...

I don't know if the one above was made before the one you see on the wall in my previous post under 3.3., but the position of the paint is identical in both. Either someone cleaned the wallpaper and glued the paper tatters to the wall, or it was re-paintet and blown up afterwards for the promotion.

Maybe someone could provide a picture of the wall from HLV which is not a screencap and of better quality?...

Even so, notice what an excellent shot Sherlock is?

Sorry, I was half asleep.

I've only just realised. I didn't actually mean BB...I meant in The Great Game!

Against The Golem.

He's pretty rubbish in Blind Banker!

In fairness he was mostly shooting in the dark.

I must be half asleep too, I knew exactly what you meant but didn't catch the gaffe! :D

... the dark chocolate wallcoverings in the living room are called Navarre — from Zoffany’s Nureyev Collection — and cost £98, or $150, per roll.

Dark chocolate?  Not black?  But speaking of That Wallpaper, this company will ship to the US (or at least did a couple of years ago when this was posted).  It even comes in a few other colors, if dark chocolate isn't your thing.

Yupp. Dark brown on a blue and beige background.

I have seen some reports about people recreating that pattern with the most adventurous methods.

Unless it was all made deliberately and for fun, just buying that wallpaper would be surely cheaper in the end. :P

It also was the first motif I reconstructed by myself (being a DTP operator is quite handy) and was furious at Zazzle because they rejected my design.

Maybe it was a copyright issue?  (With Zoffany, I mean, not with Hartswood.)

And yet you will find many things both on Ebay and Etsy where people are selling items with that print.
