Ooops, just saw your answer JP. But thanks anyway! (But I'm still so annoyed with myself, how could I miss something so basic... aghgh!!!!)

Dear Arcadia, what we shall be getting on the 15th of October will certainly have been filmed. What does it matter? I believe you have a saying "same difference"?

It's called tape delayed for those of us not fortunate enough to be able to watch the live filming that day.  I'm watching it at 7pm also, that just happens to be 1am in the UK by that point.

Not to compare Hamlet to a sporting event :D  but ... it's like the Olympics, it's always more rewarding to me to watch the events live than to see them on tape delay. There's just a different energy when you know it's live.

One of my best moments ever came when I was flying somewhere, and the passengers all started watching the Olympics live. We were cheering for our teams and hooting and hollering when they did well. 100+ strangers, all acting like we'd known each other for years. Best. Flight. Ever. :cowdance:

If it had been on tape delay, but you hadn't known that it was, you'd have enjoyed it just as much.  :D

Besides, isn't everything on at least a bit of a tape delay these days?  First there's the traditional few-seconds delay in case something needs to be bleeped.  Then there's the inevitable transmission delay, through cables, up to the satellite and back down, and through some more cables.

Come to think of it, even if you're right there in the theater, there's a slight delay while the photons reach your eyes and your brain processes what you've seen.

Somehow that is not making me feel any better! :D

I've already posted a link to Cliff's Notes for Hamlet, but must admit that when I was in school, my favorite "study guide" was actually Richard Armour's Twisted Tales from Shakespeare (which relates the plots in a wry fashion, while still getting the details basically correct).  I am delighted to see that that book's available online as well, here.  Conveniently, Hamlet is the first play dealt with.

OMG, now I have to go see if I still have my copy of that. It's been years.

I've confirmed it, all the "live" showings near me are sold out. Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!!!!! Part of me doesn't even care if I go now.... (the other part can hardly wait... :p )

So, we should conclude that we're being moderated by people of two minds, bordering on a schizoid personality? ^_^

I'd say that's a fair conclusion, yes!

Just remember, most of us on here don't suffer from insanity, we enjoy almost every minute of it ;)

Okay, someone was illegally lucky, getting a last minute ticket for Hamlet and recorded Ben's appeal after the show. The person was in London for Viggo Mortensen's reading at the British library.

Somehow I don't think anyone will mind that particular taping so much, seeing as how it will help spread the word.

After watching that brief video, I realized it is 1 month from today until the NTLive broadcast of Hamlet.

Dear Arcadia, I know that I shouldn't be rubbing salt in open wounds, but I just found out that the October 15th performance will actually be live, with the appropriate time lapse! I would be doing a celebratory dance around the living room, if I didn't have the youngsters upstairs sleeping! Nyah, Nyah, Nyah Nyah, Nyah na! Why we all revert to Sherlock's approximately five-year-old behaviour when it comes to such matters remains a mystery to me! :D
