Yes, well, that was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away! (light sabers at dawn, dear Arcadia, pick your seconds!) Benedict has developed quite a lot since his Khan days!

That little video is really funny! Glad he has seen the error of his fans' ways in the meantime! You lucky people! I have to travel to Jersey for the live screening on the 15th! Visiting another country about 300 kilometers away for a nice night out isn't exactly visiting the local multiplex!

I've seen this before (probably more than once) but it still makes me laugh aloud. Even my browser crashed at "Hong Kong" :lol4:

Going terribly OT here, but youtube suggested this one as next:

Just to brighten the mood a bit...

At least nobody steps on your finger... :P

... and we are back on track.

ETA: can somebody encrypt Ben's first sentence? My whole life is like stepping ..... and embarrassing myself.

Benedict's first line: My whole like is like stepping between trying to be gracious and embarrassing myself.

OK! Did my bit of research and located the Cumberbuddy from Kent if all your input and Benedict's reaction in the Graham Norton show are all the data needed! Watching it felt extremely funny, with both Chris Pine and Benedict dressed in three-piece suits just like Mycroft! Loved Kim Catrall, Star Trek VI even has its title purloined from Hamlet: The Undiscovered Country!

And he could be so easily embarrassed live, back then, with the CumberCollective!

It's slowly getting boring, isn't it? Unless someone gets injured...

You'd think so, yet here I sit watching the thing from end to end ...

This is the BC I first became aware of ... wow, less than two years ago ... it's nice to have him back.

Have him back?

He hasn't been away!

Now guys I assume you've all realised by now that I haven't a romantic bone in my body and I hate cut flowers(famous story!)...

But those flowers?  That was sweet...altho I feel everybody will follow suit now!

He is such a gem....

Look at that line, all those people!

I also noticed he's chewing...hope this means he's still off the cigs.

I just mean he hasn't looked that relaxed in awhile -- I think the PR for the Turing movie was a real grind.

I feel like more recently BC has look somber?  Stressed?  Worn out?  Something...   I get the feeling with all that has changed for him in the last year, plus the fact that relaxing and down time don't seem to be his things , I just wonder if he has stretched himself a bit too thin...

Yeah, that's what I've been noticing. None of my busybodiness, but I can't help but hoping everything's okay in Cumberbatchland. That's why I always am pleased to see him smile. And now I'll go away before I make any more of a fool of myself over this guy than I already have. :D

I figure in the last nearly 4 months with his schedule being what it is, he's probably dealing with a lack of sleep (more so than normal) for obvious (and probably very cute) reasons and that can make anyone look somber, stressed, and/or worn out.

Oh my he is so kind.

I wouldn't do that if I was famous.

Wouldn't do that now when I'm nobody.

Might not do that even when my life depends on it.

I might stand behind in the corner like this as a fan,4xvim2p.gif happy just to see him being so nice.

Serve Benedict right! With a baby, Sherlock-like patterns of sleep would be needed, not a real peson's. Wait until 3C is teething!

With multiple teeth coming in.  (Been there done that over 12 years ago.)

Plus, your deductions are probably on the level of Anderson, dear fellow members! He's chewing gum BECAUSE he has had a quieting smoke right before facing his eager fandom, possibly to relax. The poor overworked soul probably didn't have time to brush his teeth properly in between the finale and the stage door appearance!

Honestly, did none of you smoke as teenagers and wash out your mouth and scrub your hands and stick two wads of gum in your mouth, preferably spearmint or peppermint (my favourite was Wrigley's, but Dentyne served its purpose admirably!) to cover the telltale smell? :D

Actually never smoked and was around enough second hand smoke to never want to.

Also Benedict could have been chewing gum to keep the saliva going for the sole purpose of being able to talk without a dry mouth.

Note to smokers:  Chewing gum does not cover up the tobacco odor on your breath.  It merely makes it smell like you're using mint-flavored chewing tobacco.

Come to think of it, how does anybody know that was gum?  ;)  (Though of course it could have been Nicorette.)

Dearest Carol, chewing Wrigley's covered both the smell of tobacco ( after having rinsed out with soapy water) and the smell of underage drinking ( beer and wine). Fisherman's Friend could mask half-chewed rotting hamburger remains in the absence of totthpaste and toothbrush! But Nicorette would cover both the craving and serve as gum! Brilliant! : D

I assume you're saying that from the point of view of the underage smoker/drinker in question?

OK, rinsing would probably decrease the smell considerably, by removing a good percentage of any particles left in the mouth, and the mint would provide some camouflage.  That might be sufficient to fool a someone who a] is also a smoker/drinker and/or b] has just come from a smoke-filled room and/or c] doesn't get too close and/or d] doesn't really want to know.

But the odor remains in the lungs and stomach and (especially!) on the hair and clothing for quite some time, and a non-smoker who's been in a smoke-free environment will be likely to notice if s/he gets close at all.

Ditto.

Yup.

That's exactly how people have previously deduced he was still smoking.  :sherlock:

Having said that, he could have just been around others smoking.  :sofa2:
