Read the links I posted, Arcadia.  ;)  Then you can join me in MBTI mathematics.

Damn it, Sitty, I'm an artist, not a mathematician! :d

Hey, Moftiss should have John use that line. "Dammit, Sherlock, I'm a doctor, not a sleuth!"

I'm an Idealist (INFJ), just apparently an overly analytical one.

(No, no, seriously, I was saying I relate .... most of the time I really care but sometimes I could just chuck the human race over a cliff and be happy ....)

Let's go chuck human over the cliff ala 300 Spartan.

Oooooh...... you mean human race, not human?

Naaahhhhhhhh potato potahto.

I'm an Idealist (INFJ), just apparently an overly analytical one.

Aren't INFJ are those thoughtful and kind-hearted people who believe in better humanity, but get disappointed many times because it's not?

Come join us at the edge of the cliff and chuck human. Giggling is optional but recommended.

For Sherlock,

I actually think that Se as the 4th function makes the most sense for him.

Well, I'm often disappointed in humanity, but mostly b/c I think people are dumb (which is ironic given my goldfish status).  lol.   So, I'm in.

The thought of Sherlock as either ENTJ or INTJ make me goes, "Argh, no!" Sherlock tends to see the trees first then the forest, while ENTJ & INTJ naturally will see the reverse.

But what about the functions?!   You know functions... I've seen you talk about them... how do you make him into an S with functions that make sense?

This is basically me right now.... THE FUNCTIONS!!!!!!!

You have goldfish status? I don't think you are, well, from what I see here at least.

Playful, yes. Which is good.

I think Sherlock is INTJ. Very.

Yay! Chucking human over the cliff, agenda for the day.

This is my only gripe with the traditional stereotype between N and S.  I spent a lot, a lot, a lotta, lotta time trying to figure out how I could be an INFJ and yet be very "detail oriented" and "analytical" per bosses, professors, blah, blah.   And I think the difference is this, and I'm not sure if this will come across as making any sense, but I'm gonna try anyhow....

For me personally (maybe this isn't true of all Ns???  Toby??? ), but I organize data into the larger system, and that is why I'm an N.  For example, when I was a kid taking Algebra I wanted to know where the equations came from, because that helped me understand the rationale behind why we were using them and when to use them.  I remember facts/details in the context of a larger picture.  That helps me remember the details, if I can tie them to something else.   When I was learning about these stupid MBTI functions... rather than memorizing the functional stacks, I looked for rules that were consistent between them so I could work them out without memorizing them.  That's how I process.  And I get that makes me an N, but yet I still look at the trees.  I just look at their interconnectedness to the forest.  Am I a "normal" N?  I dunno.

You're too kind.  :)  But I'm def a goldfish, maybe a bright goldfish, but a goldfish nonetheless if we're going by Holmesian standards.  lol

Example:  Sometimes I understand what Inge is saying, and sometimes I'm like words... words... doesn't compute... what does that mean?  Words.

No, I'm not! I'm just stating observation.

My idea of intelligence is not the face value and what is displayed/attempted display.

Big words? I chuck them over the cliff with maniacal laugh if they are used as attempted display only.

Content, yesss.

Anyway,

Goldfish Myth

Goldfish and Magpie are misunderstood since forever. :)

So do I, sittything. I am using the story of my last period of war gaming as illustration. I organize reports from all branches (the army, diplomatics, intelligence, geographic watchers for spread and types and last, our own organizational 'climate and conditions'). I translate them into a complete picture for our leader and give advice-recommendation of the possible further options to take, an analyst's job desc. However, when faced with hundreds and thousands reports and limited time, the first thing that jump to me like magic out of nowhere is the patterns, and only just then I zoom in into the details that I choose to focus on at one time. It is not training, it is how I function by default. I can be detail-oriented but it comes as secondary mode of operation. Sherlock is the opposite, he zoom at details first and only after he take time to sit back and examine the cloud of data he begin to see the pattern. I'd say he is closer to INTP 'The Wizard'.

I only landed at ENTJ by the process of elimination. :D Admittedly, my new found function/functional stack knowledge of like 24 hours is a bit weak and probably incredibly inaccurate, and I wouldn't necessarily assume that trying to get there by the process of elimination is the best way to go about this. But this isn't stopping me from trying to work it out!

I started with the assumption that Sherlock is an I, so yay for an easy start, right?

I tend to also think that Sherlock is an N rather than an S b/c of the seeming intuitive leaps he makes in his deductions. He gets there logically, yes, but intuition doesn't mean you just make a leap... you compile all the data to understand the larger picture/how it all works. Anyhow, so at this point I was at IN... easy enough, right?

So if I've got IN my options at this point are only INFJ, INFP, INTJ, and INTP.

Functional stack for these looks like (small e is extroverted, small i is introverted):

INFJ: Ni Fe Ti Se

INFP: Fi Ne Si Te

INTJ: Ni Te Fi Se

INTP: Ti Ne Si Fe

I eliminated INFJ right off the bat b/c their auxiliary function is Fe... and that is so not Sherlock. Harmony and pleasing/getting along with others is not his thing. I also eliminated INFP and INTP b/c Sherlock is most definitely not an extroverted intuition person. He may brainstorm aloud at times, but he's very methodical about how he does it and he doesn't just consider all the facts. Only things he observes are relevant.

I don't like that the inferior function on INTJ is Se as I think Sherlock is very much that. Basically, I think Sherlock has a mix of Te, Ni, and Se. Which means his F has to be Fi, since the T is Te.

Options we're then left with are: ENTJ, INTJ, ESFP, and ISFP

Feeling (Fi) has got to be pretty low, potentially his inferior function, so if you eliminate any of those with the Fi in the dominant or auxiliary function you've got: ENTJ, INTJ

The functional stacks for the SPs look like this:

ESFP: Se Fi Te Ni

ISFP: Fi Se Ni Te

So we've just eliminated that he can be an S at all.

I went with ENTJ over INTJ only because in INTJ (Se) is the inferior (4th) function, and that seemed odd to me.

ENTJ's functional stack looks like: Te Ni Se Fi

INTJ: Ni Te Fi Se

I like it overallish, just not the E part, unless he's a really borderline low E. But I wouldn't rule out INTJ either.

It is possible that Sherlock is what would be labeled as an out-going introvert. Like all introverts he needs to get away to recharge but he doesn't shy away from people like many non-shy introverts do so he comes across as being extroverted until you really get a chance to observe him.

How about an analytical creative who can be random, concrete, abstract, & I forget if the 4th option was logical or analytical. I see the forest and the tree in the middle of it. Maybe tomorrow I will look at the links sitty posted earlier. Must get to bed as I need to be up in 6 hours.

Aren't INFJ are those thoughtful and kind-hearted people who believe in better humanity, but get disappointed many times because it's not?

The way being INFJ plays out for me is that I want the best for all humanity, I just don't want them in my living room.

I believe your last sentence is not exclusive to INFJ. It probably represents 99.859% of all Introverts and certain percentage of Extroverts too. :)

Genius needs an audience, remember? I think he's an introvert who likes to perform.

http://www.higherperspectives.com/choose-an-eye-1406171928.html?c=article  I couldn't decide between 2 and 7, and I'm not sure either one is scarily accurate about me ... but at least they're complimentary!
