But would you want to BE him? :p

Posted

Part of me really want to be Mycroft, for protection, of delicate stuffs called feelings.

Posted

What feelings? I don't have feelings. They hurt you, they make you do stupid things. Pesky chemical defect.

Who doesn't want to be like Mycroft - even without the genius, and surely without the British Government parts?

Posted

I'd be bored silly if I were Mycroft, locked up in a building all day. (Shudders delicately.) And some feelings make people do wonderful things, not just stupid things. Well, maybe they are stupid, but still I'm glad people do them ... like adopting an orphan or helping out a refugee. This world wouldn't be worth much without feelings, and both Sherlock and Mycroft are big fat liars when they claim not to have them. :P And Mycroft's the poorer person for being more successful at controlling his.

But imagine if you have power to control them, shutting it down when it hurts.

I want that.

Always have funny scenarios in my head: Heart is very strong organ; it's muscular, so functional, pumping blood, has protective sac and layers of wall, valve, and enclosed internally and so on.

Yet....it's bloody fragile and hurt easily by words or events, and helpless emotion.

WHY is that???

What is that all about?!?

Design defect?

I know I'm talking rubbish. :cowdance: but I'm damn serious too!

@Arcadia: Is Mycroft ever actually said that he doesn't have feelings? I seems to recall him said, "I worry about him, constantly" and "Your loss will break my heart". ;)

@VBS: Need some hot chocolate? I have plenty here ( serious talking too). Emotions will pass, it is feeling that is the hardest to tame. Dissect feelings, categorize them, form plans of action. Ready, set, go! ^^

Well, technically, you speak of a part(s) of the brain. You know, this grey pudding between our ears. :P

I always got bored outside.  Even as a kid. Especially as a kid - there was not much to do except meeting other kids... Ghastly. I'm an itrovert - the world inside my head was always more interesting.

They have feelings, even if they don't admit it. :) It just happens that me and Holmes Bros share the same wishful thinking ideal of self. (I think I said that before)

Sometimes I think their philosophy is somehow similar to buddhism. The withdrawal thing, you know...

I don't think it's a design defect, I think it's a necessary part of our makeup!

My brother has two sons, born about 18 months apart, and they were pretty close growing up. The older one was always popular with other kids, with girls, with teachers, etc. The younger one had a tough time; picked on, bullied a bit, and he was considered by many to be an odd duck.

Guess which one of these two boys grew up to be more compassionate and empathic towards other people? I have often thought that experiencing emotional pain is a necessary part of becoming a complete human being; without it, I think it's much harder for people to learn how to treat other people with kindness and respect; which are traits I value a lot more than success or power. I think Mycroft's has tried to give up the kindness in order to retain the power, and that makes me think less of him.

@Arcadia: Is Mycroft ever actually said that he doesn't have feelings? I seems to recall him said, "I worry about him, constantly" and "Your loss will break my heart". ;)

Good question. But he also seems to counsel his little brother to "conquer" his feelings ("caring is not an advantage") -- as if having an advantage (power) is more important than being human. Don't listen, Sherlock!!! :D

I don't know, I don't think of Buddhism as being about withdrawal so much as it is about acceptance. And I think the Holmes boy's egos would keep them from being very good Buddhists!

Or a curse! :P

Of course having an advantage is more important than being human, which is a state of existence already granted at birth anyway thus striving to be 'more human' is a fruitless endeavour. :evilinside:

But if it's the location, feeling should be more logical isn't it. Brain is for thinking, not for feeling.

And for some people, when they receive extreme bad news, they have heart attack.. :p, so I suspect the pudding is around the heart.

(I never say I am using logic for this one anyway XD)

I am an outdoor extrovert too.

Not to meet people though. I really enjoy sitting on the beach or laying on the grass, with my dog, very selected people or alone.

Ssssttt...he would freak out and exercise even more.

BTW someone posts interesting stuff about introverts at Twitter - from philosophical to funny.

Those are great! Maybe you should create a thread too, I have hundreds of contributions.

Reading them making me feel very normal.

Thank you for the chocolate :p

Feelings, actually I have been very lucky in that department. It's just the stupid naggy, I guess fear, that it will come and bite me someday.

My peak of selfish moment is sometimes wishing for other's immortality while being a mortal myself.

It's really not hard to understand introvert, really.

*just leave me alone. It doesn't mean I hate you. I just have too-much-people-interaction intolerant.*

Update: I ended up blocking numbers to enjoy my holiday peacefully, making mental note not to ever let this particular person know if I'm in town, ever again. Already did it for awhile but made mistakes thinking he had understood me after the last similar incident, and thought that queuing in crowded post office is worse, or trace it further back not to care that he likes that street painting.

Anyway, another persistent problem, I don't celebrate birthdays, I forget my own birthday. But a colleague always insists to celebrate, she knows my birthday because she is in charge with particulars.

Every single time, I tell her, from nicely, very seriously, honest, pleading and even threaten her to leave me alone, she doesn't. She says she keeps it very private, but what on earth is 5-10 people private? Cake, candles and pictures??? That is 5-10 people too many. For 3 years working there, the 3 cakes are more than what I had all my life.

I seriously don't know what to do anymore, I hate even thinking about it, maybe I will take leave in my next one with sudden notice.

I know I should be grateful, but I would lie if the idea on straggling her *why don't you understand?!?!* never comes into mind.

Well, they sure have me pegged:

INTP: comedy, intellectually stimulating, sci fi, quirky humor

But not so much Alex:

INTJ: intellectually stimulating, futuristic, dark/violent, documentary/sci fi, complex plot

He actually prefers a good romantic comedy to the dark/violent stuff (which he hates).

I do like all INTJ options with notes; realistic futuristic, not fantastic-ridiculous kind,

and dark but not unnecessary violence.

I don't mind P's quirky humor as well.

While we may be predictable, we are nevertheless still quirky!  :P
