According to a poll conducted by Entertainment Weekly, Saturday Night Live's best guest host for this past season has been none other than Martin Freeman.  He also won their poll for best first-time host ("Freeman’s ability to sell daft without playing it huge was a gift to every sketch he was in"), and his Hobbit Office skit won for best pretaped short ("a little slice of heaven").

Amazingly, Freeman won best guest host (against 20 other contenders) in a true landslide with 61.8% of the vote, after having been temporarily eliminated at one point.  I am guessing that this was one of those "vote early, vote often" polls, and that Freeman's rebound occurred when the Sherlock fans caught wind of it.  But hey, it's EW's poll, and they can run it any way they want.  :D

Or, he's just such a winning presence that of course everyone voted for him!

I would wager it was a bit of both...

Although, I still HATE those polls where you can vote more than once.  I may or may not still be bitter about wasting too much time on that one poll...

British actor Martin Freeman will receive a Giffoni Experience Award on July 19 at Europe’s largest film festival for kids.

The Hobbit star will meet with the Giffoni Film Festival’s young jurors to discuss his life and work, organizers of the festival in Italy said on Thursday.

That's news??  (You're off-topic!  ;) )

Note:  Of course that wasn't news, it was something we'd known all along!  So I created a "Favorite Martin Freeman Pictures" thread -- which is where the post that I quoted above now resides.

You just replied so you could post that picture again, didn't you Carol? :D

I was honestly going to just post my reply to it, but then sitty's next post intervened, so I was forced to include the quote.  (Not that I had to twist my own arm or anything.)

Well, I meant -- didn't we know that already?  ;)  Not saying, though, that we can't be appreciative!

OK, OK, I realized that we simply needed a place to post our favorite pictures of Martin Freeman -- so I have moved a number of recent posts from this thread to the "Favorite Martin Freeman Pictures" thread.

Enjoy!

Martin Freeman has been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences -- meaning (assuming he accepts) that he will henceforth be able to nominate and vote for the Academy Awards, alias the Oscars.

I like his bit about wearing the mustache in the special.  Things actors go through for a performance.

This bit got my attention:

He takes no credit, however, for the success of the widely popular films and TV shows he stars in. “It’s definitely nothing to do with me. It's only my responsibility to hold up my bit of the boat,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

I'm starting to think that Mr. Freeman should avoid boat analogies altogether!

Footnote for those who have not yet memorized the Unaired Pilot:  In the Angelo's scene, after saying "It's all fine," John adds this:

Whatever ... shakes your ... (he searches for the right word) ... boat. I’m gonna shut up now.

Footnote for those who think I'm being serious:

Yup, I'm holding Freeman responsible for John's dialog!

I am impressed with Freeman's open support of the BBC and his arguments in its defence. He comes across as a very straightforward, upright sort of person. I am not familiar enough with the political climate in Britain and therefore have no idea what the possible ramifications are, but I guess not many actors riding a success wave would be willing to stand up to government measures like this.

Do we have questions for Martin Freeman?

Christina Radish from Collider is collecting questions for an interview tomorrow.

That may have changed.  Your link doesn't work now, and neither I nor my browser's Find function see anything about Mr. Freeman in Ms. Radish's recent tweets.  Too bad!

Or maybe just too many questions.  No point in leaving the request up if she already had enough interesting ones.

Just ran across a fun 2009 interview with Mr. Freeman, mostly regarding his then-current movie, the delightful Nativity, but also touching a bit on the then-upcoming Sherlock.  It's an audio in two parts, so I hesitated to start on it this time of night -- but each part is five minutes or less.

Dang, I'll have to go somewhere with a better wifi connection before I can listen to it.
