As for John having to be the damsel in distress, I don't mind that at all, but I am curious where the idea came from. It doesn't happen too often in the original stories. There were plenty of clients there to get in danger. And more often than not, it was Holmes who had to be pulled out of some critical situation by his biographer. He would have died a lot of deaths without him, come to think of it...

Sorry, what I actually meant was specifically "kidnapping victim" -- by force, threat of force, or trickery.  It's gotten to be quite the cliche in this show.  Let's see --

"Study in Pink" -- Mycroft and his magic telephones

"Blind Banker" -- abduction by pizza delivery

"Great Game" -- the pool scene

"Scandal" -- Irene posing as Mycroft

"Hounds" -- John as lab rat

"Reichenbach" -- Mycroft and his magic bank machine

"Empty Hearse" -- toasty!John  (love the phrase, if not the situation)

"Sign of Three" -- good heavens, an entire episode with no kidnapping?

"Last Vow" -- can I count "let me flick your face"?

Have I forgotten any?  (I'm pretty sure there was one episode where he was actually kidnapped twice.)

I can finally answer my own question about the double kidnapping.  It's in "Scandal" (which we're currently rewatching), where John is not only tricked into going to Battersea to meet with Irene Adler, but (far worse!) is held hostage in Irene's house by the apparent CIA agents, in order to force Sherlock to divulge the combination to her safe.

... or at least that's the way Mycroft, Sherlock, and Mary see it.

Poor John! I didn't realise that he's always kidnapped, threatened, used and exploited by everyone in the series, really! I think he's really addicted to danger, otherwise he would have abandoned Sherlock, after being almost killed twice (the first time by Moriarty, the second by Magnusen).

Or maybe he's only a very very good man and friend and he loves Sherlock to much to leave him alone with his cases :P

A little bit of both, I would say.

Amber, I just noticed your quote at the bottom of your post, and ... hey! What are you trying to say! :D

Do you mean my signature? I love that piece of Carrol's book! I love the Creshire Cat and I love Alice :) I think that sometimes it reflects people's way of living, in positive, of course :)

I thought maybe you were referring to this forum as Wonderland. Since we're all crazy here. Except me, of course. ;)

No, I didn't want to refer to the forum. :) But, I think it could be used also to describe you all, because "normal" people are boring, I prefer to talk and go out with "mad" people, because they are, I think, beautiful inside, because they make themselves as they want to be. I love this forum because you all are so spontainous (does this word exist?) and different, in positive, from the others :)

Another phrase from Carrol's book:"Have I gone mad? " "I'm afraid so, but let me tell you something: the best people usually are" :)

For a bit of randomness that really means nothing significant unless you want it to.  As of 21:48 Central Daylight Time 12 June, the total number of members on here matches the year of the first Sherlock episodes being aired (2010).

Nice. Please promise that when the 2017th member comes along, we already have S4. :p

For the nth time (where n is a medium-sized number) I am wondering A] how Sherlock guessed -- umm, excuse me, deduced John's computer password, and B] what the password is (or more likely WAS).

It would have to be something that Sherlock basically knew already, so that presumably leaves out stuff like John's Army serial number or the name of his first dog. I suppose my first guess would be something like 5thNuF (for Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers). Any other conjectures?

John's birthday? His mum's first name? Her birthday?

I imagine by that time Sherlock had already done a considerable amount of research on John, because ... well, he would, wouldn't he, the nosy git? :d

Oh, wait, I know ....

Hamish!

"Hamish" would have been one of my guesses, except for two things:

1. If I hated my middle name, I can't imagine that I'd use it as my password. True, nobody would ever see it (in theory), but I'd have to type it every day. Think I'd rather use something I enjoyed thinking about.

2. We don't know that Sherlock had burgled John's safety deposit box in time for "Blind Banker.". All we know is that he must have done it before " Scandal."

But yeah, could have been any of the other things you mentioned -- assuming that Sherlock found that sort of data worthy of a place on his "hard drive.". ("Less than a minute" wouldn't have given him time to look up more than one item, possibly two.)

Or Mycroft just handed him John's file.

*giggles* Or Sherlock cheated by planting keylogger on John's laptop.

Which he happened to have handy at Baker Street?  (Well, of course -- what kind of brother would he be otherwise?)

Could also be something along the lines of ArmyDoctor.  Trying to think what else *we* knew about John as of TBB, and what he seemed to identify with at that point.  ClarinetPlayer?

Wouldn't put it past him.  Though I suspect he prefers the challenge (such as it was).

I see John as someone who is more practical kind of person, so imo, his password should be something very practical and easy to remember too. (someone close I know drives me crazy because he is too lazy to think of easily remembered password so he just choose something that is totally random, consists of just a repeated letter).

I also imagine that in army, while not on the field, they have a lot of time on their hand, without much connection to outside world as in internet, so their source of electronic entertainment could be something from the laptop so it's high commodity. Maybe John wouldn't put something like his number, vehicle or anything army related so that he could have some privacy (well according to Sherlock he has pictures of naked women :P) so I would rule out army related password.

Birthday is almost a no-no, especially in environment where your particular is recorded or shared for administrative and record purposes. Mother's, sister's birthday is also not something John would use because he seems quite detached with them and it's more likley used as password recovery security question.

John also doesn't have sentimental stuffs as we could see from his initial apartment. So, I guess that could be something, someone, some story, some phrase that he tells/mentions often that only noticed by someone like Sherlock.

But after all that, my guesses are based on nothing XD :P

Maybe Ihadbaddays, nothinghappenstome, damnmyleg,

at the beginning, and after many cracks,

sherlockisadramaqueen I'm sure this one is Sherlock-proof. :P

It has been thoroughly hijacked.  It has been hijacked so well that it even got pinned by someone with more powers than me.
