I think Mad Max Fury Road is awesome.

It's very different and the pictures are something incredible.

I also saw a video on YouTube how the director directes the viewers eyes. Awesome.

I gave Mad Max a 9/10 on IMDB I think.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. It is a fascinating look into that time period.

Which one?

A friend made me watch Fury Road a while ago and I was surprised to find that I kind of liked it. It was freaky and absurd enough to make me tolerate the violence (besides, this friend has known me since third grade and she has a very good idea of what I can and cannot see, so she never shows me films she hasn't watched herself yet and when she knows something is coming up that'll make me queasy, she tells me to close my eyes in time. Love her.) I think Charlize Theron can reconcile me to almost anything.

Oh, I didn't know there are more than one.

Yes, I meant the latest one with Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy.

She is great in Monster, the one that catapulted her to recognition I guess.

Not long ago, with some friends we decided to watch movie since the weather didn't permit us to do original intended activities. One of the girl really wanted to see the snow white (?), whatever it is, the sequel without Kristen Stewart (thank god!) because of Chris Hemsworth (groan). We decided to give in, I was expecting it's going to be hellish but it's not that bad because of Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt.

I loved the (original) Road Warrior (I think it may have been called Mad Max 2 in other places?). I'd heard so much about it that I decided to see it, even though it sounded like the kind of movie I don't ordinarily like. This was back in the day when I went to movies by myself at lot more often. So I get to the theater -- it was a fairly small one -- walk in -- and the place is packed with bikers. Big (really big!), burly, tattooed, bearded, leather-clad motorcyclists. "Oh my god, what have I gotten myself into" thought I. I slunk into a vacant seat, trying to be invisible, and expecting a raucous ride -- and they were perfect gentlemen, to the last man. No yelling at the screen, no putting the moves on the only girl in the audience, no rude remarks, nothing. I enjoyed the heck out of it! :D

The movie's incredibly violent in some ways, but there's something about it that works. The humanity of the good guys, I guess. And that was back in the day before we found out Mel Gibson was a bit of a jerk. God, I loved watching that man run. :naughty:

I was shocked when I heard that Fury Road was nominated for Best Picture. That kind of movie doesn't get that kind of nomination! I'm sorry now I didn't go see it, I think I just assumed it would be too violent for the older, more delicate me. Has anyone else seen the Road Warrior, and tell me how you think they compare?

Mad Max 1 -- didn't care for it, but it's so low budget it's almost laughable. #3 was okay but too messianic.

Gee...there are 1, 2, 3?

I remember knowing about Mel Gibson's one, but didn't watch it, so I can't make the comparison.

Oh yes, bikers are not all 'bad'. I'm not one, just casual commuting biker with 'guy' bike, but I know a couple of those serious bikers that are perfect gentlemen. And they are mostly sport bikers, so instead of big burly bearded they are lean and pretty normal looking. :p

Other movies, rewatched Memento recently, still liking it. I heard they are going to remake it but what for? I don't see a way to improve it significantly, I guess Hollywood is running out of ideas.

Such as sequels, there are too many unnecessary sequels. Kung Fu Panda, Ice Age, bad sequels, lucky I didn't catch it in theaters.

Oh Memento 8/10

KungFu Panda (3?) 5/10

Ice Age (?) 6/10

Mad Max

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome

All Mel at his leanest and meanest. But the middle one is the good one.

I watched Captain America The Winter Soldier last night for the second time, and I liked it, very much.

It's one of Marvel's best.

Lean sounds good. But if I'm not wrong, he has a mullet right? XD

:lol5: No, that's Lethal Weapon (I think). THIS is Max....

....or Braveheart! There he even wears a skirt! :D (sorry, I mean a kilt...)

Love most of Mel Gibsons films from the 80s (plus Braveheart, which was more the 90s already...). WIth the Mad Max, I have seen all, but I only remember properly the third one where Tina Turner is in it. Have not seen the new Mad Max though.

Today I have seen on DVD 'Elizabethtown' again. One of my favourites - I so love the road trip in the end! I would give it a 9 of 10. Beautiful story, good actors, only a bit much kitschy romcom in some parts.

I think I used to like Mel Gibson's movies too, at least he is a sellable name.

But I wouldn't wish that mullet to my worst enemy. XD (which for today is the bloody guy who drove the bloody car carelessly and tried to kill me), oh I change my mind. I WISH he wakes up in mullet with mullets all over his house.

I saw Captain America the first Avenger last night and it's definitely not as good as the second movie, but still not bad.

We get a pretty good origin story told.

Saw "Prisoners" the night from Saturday to Sunday.

It was awesome. Prisoners is such an intense Thriller/Drama. The story is really good but the acting.. the acting is extremely good!

Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal give an astonishing performance just as the other main supporting actors/actresses.

The thriller is 2 1/2 hours long which is very long for such a movie, but the length is not too long at all. I didn't get bored at any time.

Great, great movie. Go watch it!

Prisoners - 9/10

Yesterday I saw 'Alice through the looking glass'...awesome!!! Actors, Story, the whole film artwork....love it!

I mentioned in the favourite male actors thread already that some familiar faces are in it, but - watching a Tim Burton film means you see a LOT of familiar faces, as he likes to work with many actors that have been in previous films he made. Just Andrew Scott and Richard Armitage have been a new addition, from the actors we know and love here...hopefully they will be cast for more Burton films soon :D ....

The end of the film was quite teary, and I thought already in the beginning when Absolem flew into the picture 'oh man, now always when I see a blue butterfly, I might be thinking of Alan Rickman'...so it was no wonder to read the dedication to Alan Rickman in the end, and the tears would not cease until the whole end credits were done.

Alice through the looking glass gets a 10/10 from me - but that's no wonder, I love just everything that is a Tim Burton film since 'Beetlejuice' came out, and it has many many favourite actors and actresses (LOVE Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham-Carter!!) in it....

But..I think that "Alice through the looking glass" isn't a Tim Burton's film :/

However it doesn't mean that it wasn't so so beautiful. To be honest, I liked more the first film (a Tim Burton's,this time), because it was more similar to the book, and, I think, with more action, but also the second film was so interesting and catching.

I loved (as always) Johnny Depp and Mia.

Then, reading that the film was dedicated to Alan Rickmann moved me a lot

I'll give the film 9/10 (10/10 for the first one :P )

You're partly right, Amber ... Tim Burton is a producer on this one, not the director.

Finally got to see Captain America. It was not what I expected. Too much smash 'em bash 'em at the beginning, but once they got to the central conflict between Stark and Cap, I found it somewhat thought provoking, and surprisingly moving. Some excellent performances, especially from RJD.

Count me firmly on Team Iron Man. Not because of the whole government oversight thing, but because I never saw anything to convince me that Bucky was worth all the trauma he put everyone through. I don't buy that he had NO responsibility for his actions. He knew what he could become; he could have turned himself in at any time. Instead he kept running. I actually had more sympathy for the real "villain" than I could muster for Bucky.

I certainly hope they have something more interesting in store for Martin Freeman's character, otherwise I don't see the point in wasting his talents on such a meaningless role. I kind of liked the guy, though.

For Carol: somewhere you asked something along the lines of ... do you have to see the other Marvel movies in order to appreciate this one? I said I'd let you know! Although since I waited so long to finally see this, you may have figured it out for yourself by now.

At any rate, I confess I was a bit lost at times. Never figured out who the blonde girl was, or the villain from the beginning. I knew enough about the comics to recognize all the Avengers, but I know I missed some insider remarks. The basic plot was clear enough, it was more a matter of figuring out what these people meant to each other. Soooo ... I wouldn't say you have to be familiar with the larger Marvel universe to get this ... but it would enhance the experience if you did.

Oh, and Spidey absolutely rocked. Best thing in the whole movie.

9/10 for being unexpectedly psychological and complex. Loses a point for running about 20 minutes too long.

Rahhhh...haven't watched Civil War. Wasn't really into it originally, but I heard a lot of good review. It's off cinema now, so maybe it would be a while for me to get it.

Okay, by any chance, I know maybe very slim chance, anyone happens to watch a TV show called The Genius?

It's a stretch, because it's Korean. I never watched Korean show but this was recommended for me so much I finally caught the first season. Put the cultural difference style etc aside (and make sure to get the subtitle of course) it's a good strategic game show. I had only found it in Youtube but there is only one season there.

Eta: I thought I have chance to find fellow viewers here because those who recommend it are all Americans, but apparently not. :p

Anyway, I found season 2 etc through another streaming website, and I swear they are using subtle Sherlock theme on the first episode, it annoys me a bit though, maybe they think nobody watching Sherlock would catch this show, or vice versa. However, I'm happy to find 2nd season is better, hopefully they don't use the theme anymore. I love hearing it, but not when it's almost a plagiarism.

Archie/Billy or Una  ;)

Currently watching Woman in Gold starring Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds.  It is the story of Maria Altmann trying to get back her family's paintings including the famous Gustav Klimt portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer her aunt.  Excellent movie.
