I really hope not, although it's really difficult to find good companions who share the same passion. Some yes, but not all. I still prioritize things I could do with companions for now, but somehow I always imagine cutting communications with the world, travelling alone to remote places doing weird adventures if my heart was broken beyond repair from losing everyone I care about one day. Same scenario keeps playing in my head. Hope I will never ever feel the need to do that.

Anyway, back to movies...movies..

I watched Angry Bird at friend's. There are funny bits, better if you played the game before, but nothing outstanding. The red grumpy bird is quite relatable though. He..:p 6/10

North by Northwest - 9/10

My fourth Hitchcock, this movie maybe felt sometimes like a Bond movie or spy movie and I actually think that Cary Grant, the main actor, would have made a great James Bond.

Watching a series of Cary Grant movies a few years ago, I realized he's a much better actor than I thought when I was younger and I'd only seen a couple of his late works (which young me found boring).

The Philadelphia Story was on again recently. 10/10, one of my favorite movies ever. Great script, fantastic cast.

Men In Black III. There is eyeball in noodle soup! :D Loves heroic movies and I definitely become (a little) misty-eyed at the scene of the first successful moon-mission launching. ^^

Jason Bourne. 9.5/10

A bit of recency bias of course.

This is probably one of the best action movies or the best. Riots, car chases, unarmed combats but not mindless Transformer style (yikes), but smartly done. There is no a dull moment. Not once! The budget must be tremendous.

Although I really need refreshments of previous trilogy, I'm quite amazed of how they managed to sustain the story lines throughout the years.

And whoever thinks that Matt Damon is too old for this, don't worry, he still doesn't like to be touched.

P.S maybe I have to learn to ride my bike up and down the stairs, it seems pretty useful.

Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, 6/10.

This is one of those ensemble comedies that the British do so well, but this one never quite engaged my attention. Sweet, but that's about it. Great cast, of course. Think I'll pass on seeing the 2nd one.

Doesn't Loo have a small part in the second one?

I'd give it more like a 7 or 8. Alex and I both enjoyed it enough that we got #2 as well. Both are, as you say, sweet. But we also found them humorous and engaging. Nothing terribly deep, but there are lots of times when I really don't want deep! Outstanding cast, obviously, and well played. Alex says the location scenes in India are quite believable (if a bit tidied up and simplified).

If you didn't particularly care for the first one, you won't like the second one any better. If anything, it's somewhat fluffier.

I had to check to see which one Loo Brealey is in -- she plays a hairdresser in the first one. As you say, a short scene, but it's interesting in that I didn't recognize her the first time. The character is a good bit different from Molly!

I recognized her instantly (which is unusual for me) but I have been watching that little "Cluedo" vid, she was sort of on my mind. :) But yeh, blink and you miss her.

There is a 2nd Best Exotic Marigold Hotel?

It's 6.5/10, same here, I'll describe it as sweet, actually too bad I can't remember much except the last scene.

Anyone know Les Choristes or The Chorus? It's quite some time ago, I just found back my song collection yesterday.

Like the movie and of course, the soundtracks. 8/10

Yup, and that really is the title -- "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel."

I just saw The Princess Bride...

I can't rate it. It was terribly bad and terribly lovable at the same time. I get why it has a reputation as a cult classic. I only learned about it because I read somewhere that Moffat got the idea for the game with the good pill and the bad pill from there. Coincidentally, it also has a hero who comes back from the dead (multiple times).

Buttercup and Westley are one annoying couple. I wanted to slap his face in every scene he appeared in and tell her for god's sake to learn to take care of herself. Complete dependence on another person is not the same as love... But there are lots of very enjoyable side characters and some very funny scenes. Plus it's just such a delightful old frumpy campy 80s thing. I have definitely spent worse evenings.

Gone Girl.

I don't know how to rate this one either. It wasn't what I expected; very sexually explicit. But I think this is one of the few movies I've seen where I can accept that the explicitness was necessary to the plot. It some ways it was more like a horror movie than a mystery. Looks good, decent acting, good plot twists; but in the end, a plot that does nothing to elevate the viewer, which is the kind of story I prefer. Still, well done, if you like that sort of thing.

Mandy Patinkin saved that movie, imo. Altho I liked the whole cast, really, and it's a favorite. I think you have to go into it knowing it's intentionally camp to really appreciate it, though. Otherwise it's a bit of a shaggy dog tale.

Didn't they have Meryl Streep and Billy Crystal? ;)

Billy yes, Meryl no. I like the movie

Arcadia I kind of agree with you about Gone Girl. The storyline was intriguing but I wasn't into the explicit content.

For some odd reason, I liked Gone Girl, the book as well as the film. I am not generally into this kind of story at all, but I was intrigued by the characters, especially Amy. To my surprise, I found myself liking her even though she is of course completely evil.

I can't say I liked her, but I did find her compelling to watch.

The Secret Life of Pets 9/10

- so cuuuuteee!!!

As bunnyfriend, of course I love Snowball, haha... But Chloe and Gidget were supercute, too, and the two 'runaway' dogs. :D The guinea pig was a bit weird, but I loved the end. Also, I liked that they put the focus a bit on the sad reality that still many pets become abandoned by their owners, so it's not just a cute movie, but hopefully makes people think a bit about that.

Needed to sit down, so I watched Suicide Squad because I heard good things.

I don't know anything about anyone beside joker.

I thought the beginning was quite good, but it gets cliche fast but it's quite entertaining. 7/10

And

that lady with resting b*tchface, so she actualy tries to prevent bad people and in the process she actually creates bad people *the witch? And she is the worst, probably the only one who kills innocent people on screen beside joker.

And I don't care who is that Flag guy, don't care how he looks but damn he has good voice.

Ghostbusters 9/10

just awesome, especially the little hints to the first film(s) from the 80s (plus short appearances by the original cast, but in totally different roles). I am in love with Holtzman  , and I laughed so hard about Chris Hemsworth for he makes fun of his pretty boy image.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally saw Star Trek Beyond. I guess I'll give it somewhere around 6/10, 7/10. That is, it wasn't awful, but it wasn't up to the standards of the other two. Tried a little too hard to be cute, I thought. I liked the focus on the ensemble rather than just one or two characters, and some of the allusions to the original series were great. Boring villain, never understood what his problem was.

Y'know what the weird thing is (for me, at least)?  With the original series and the original-cast movies, if I can't think of the title, I'll say "the one where...."  Which is to say, I remember the plots pretty well, and did even back when I'd seen each episode or movie only a time or two.  But with these new movies, I just don't seem to retain the plots worth a damn.  So I think of them as "the first one," "the one with Khan," and -- umm, I guess "the new one."

Trying to think why.  It may be all the noise and frantic activity, which make it hard for me to notice the actual plot (though I assume there is one).
