Or the little girl who is sent home for getting caught for trying to throw away a piece of paper her grandfather gave her that might possibly look like a gun. I mean, come on people. Paranoia is not going to help anything, it could in fact, make it worse.

Ah, glad to see people who agree with me. And now, here are two more rants. This first one is for you, John. When your best friend's rant is that you're an egomaniac. And the second is a more personal rant. I may be in danger of getting another cold. Had one in December or so and now here I am in February with my nose stuffed up, my temperature not staying constant which probably isn't a good sign, my neck and chest area; head; and back feeling like they're burning while the rest of me is getting cold, my voice not sounding normal, and I probably look awful too. Arrggh. I'm hardly EVER ACTUALLY sick, one cold was quite surprising. But the possibilty of TWO??? John, stay away from me. I don't want to get you sick. I know you're a doctor and it's your job but please. I'd rather be sick than have you sick. What would I do then, if my doctor was sick? I mean- IGNORE THAT! Damn it!

In case you guys think I made that birthday thing up....

No, we don't. Unfortunately.

By the way, I suspect that the "imaginary grenade" incident was considered worrisome in the sense of expressing politically-incorrect hostility or glorifying war-mongering, rather than due to any actual safety concerns. Not that that depresses me any less.

I used to play "war" with the boys when I was about 7 - they'd run around shooting each other with imaginary guns and I'd run around after them patching them up so they could carry on. Yup, even back then I was a nurse... It sounds really non-PC now, but that's what kids played, like cowboys and Indians.

*shrugs* life was different back in the 70s.

What about this summer with super soaker water guns and such? And what about all the war mongering by Washington. They still glorify war. It's on the news every day. How do we teach our kids it's not okay to have guns when their soldier mom and does carry one every day and have to use them? These are just kids, their brains aren't geared to really grasp these concepts. They might be able to tell you it's wrong, but to actually know the difference?

I see there's not been much ranting going on...

Well, I am not happy.

first my pc monitor remains completely blank - so I decide to test it with my eeePC, only to find I no longer have the correct cable to connect it up.

second, one of my gerbils escaped, which I discovered while searching for said cable and then when I eventually caught her and put her back in the cage she started fighting with one of the others and there was blood everywhere.

third, had to go to pc world as maplins had closed by this point and they didn't have the right cable either, though I did buy a vga cable anyway as it useful to have one in, will just have to get the male-female adapter tomorrow, and it took pc world 20 bloody minutes to serve me!

Thank goodness for Victoria the eeePC or I wouldn't be online at all

Posted

Well,  thank goodness you found the gerbil.  Hope she's settled down by now.

Forgive my ignorance, but is an eeePC a computer with really wide feet?

(In American shoe sizes, widths are denoted by letters, and EEE is the widest.)

It's basically an asus brand of netbook, I've just got it working again by putting a new version of linux on it.

Okay, I know this is stupid of me. Narrow minded, selfish and self centered, pig headed, stubborn and childish.....but since this is a rant, let me get it off my chest.

I am really.....reeeaaallllyyyy getting annoyed at all the people who are taking it for granted that Moffat and Gatiss are great big fat liars and they aren't telling the truth about Moriarty being dead!! AAAarrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!!

  There. Thank you very much.

Oh... sorry about that! Wow, you've certainly been nice about it outside the designated "shooting area". I won't say another word - we shall see what the next series brings and my experience with the last three episodes should teach me that whatever it is, I'll in all probability end up loving it no matter how much I complain in advance or after the first viewing. (Series 3 is great! Did I ever say anything to the contrary? No, I couldn't have... what was I thinking?)

Oh T.o.b.y, you don't have to apologize. I understand that everyone is going to see this the way they think. Some people aren't going to trust Moffat and Gatiss. I'm just of the mind that Season 4 isn't even fully written yet, let alone ready to start filming so why not give Gatiss the space to prove himself.  You could be right after all, but they know what they're doing...and we don't....not until we see the finished product and sometimes....not even then.

:D That's for sure...

So since this is a rant thread, I'd like to have a go, please:

An identical twin brother (possibly with the same name) is an even worse idea in my opinion than another fake death - and I don't care how "canon" it is!

I can agree to that. Would seem kind of a cheap way to get Andrew Scott back. I would much rather have it a brother, but not an identical twin.

Let's be careful that we don't venture into Series 3 spoiler territory here.

I am okay with Moriarty returning and I am wondering why some people seen so against it. If Sherlock can fake his own death - why not Moriaty? There was no mention about what happened to Moriarty's body and I'm sure he wouldn't want to die - so Moriarty could have arranged (just like Sherlock) to fake his death.

Okay, I need to rant right now, because I am fuming at the nostrils and I think my head will explode if I don't blow off steam right now: I just tore my favorite dress. My favorite dress that I haven't gotten one tenth the mileage out of that I could have, that always fits and always looks good no matter how much weight I've put on, the F***ing dress I wear every F***ing Christmas and that I got for the equivalent of five dollars in a bargain basement while it's probably in the 100 dollar range, actually, and that I've looked up online because I'd like another one and didn't F***ing find because they don't make it any more.

F***!

Whew. Feels better now. Sorry. Ahem. Very unladylike to swear so much, and also very silly and superficial to get so upset about a piece of clothing. But I have a very awkward body, and a dress that fits me is next to an impossibility, so... Damn, damn, damn.

Thank you for having a rant thread. I'll go be a grown up again now and get out my sewing kit and try to save what I can.

My sister has had that issue with several skirts.  And she has tried to save most of them.  Best of luck to you.

If it's one of those horrible triangular tears in the middle of the fabric, you might be able to have it rewoven -- sorry, I have no idea what the German word for that might be, but over here it's a service that at least used to be available at some dry-cleaning shops.

Awww, thanks for the advice, Carol... It's actually more complicated than that, it's a tear that goes through very delicate cotton fabric and embroidery (you can sell me nearly anything if it's got nice embroidery on it). I've patched it up to the best of my ability, but I wouldn't put it on in public any more...

Oh dear, that sounds pretty decisive.

I still have the remains of my favorite blouse from several decades ago.  It was designed with the entire front (bodice and sleeves) all in one piece of fabric and the entire back in another piece.  And of course it ripped under the arm.  I keep thinking I could at least use it as a pattern for a new blouse -- but the main reason I liked it was for the lovely pattern of the fabric.  Oh well....

That moment you access the forums from your phone, it shows you a thread that you want to respond to only to find out your reply is going to a different thread and you are still trying to hunt down where your reply is supposed to go because your mental image of the thread is not clear enough to show you the correct words to use in the search box.   *gently bangs head against the nearest wall in frustration*  Phone :fail:  :comp:  :comp2:  (replace computer image with a phone)

SherlockedCAMPer, if you'd care to write that up in more detail and/or with some examples, and post it somewhere in the Afghanistan or Iraq? sub-forum, maybe someone can help you.

I see I'm not the only one who thinks this forum needs a "banging head on wall" icon. :)
