The pilot is on the Series 1 DVD as an extra.  It's also currently available online, though that's presumably just because Hartswood hasn't yet caught up with the perpetrators, so I won't bother posting a link.  *cough*mumble*Google*cough*

Yeah.. The quality is nowhere near as awesome as post pilot version.. But I did like that he knew that it was the cabby... There was no passenger. I didn't like It going down in his apartment, because how John disposed of the cabby didn't really make as much sense in the pilot.

Yeah, I never did care for that part in the 90-minute episode where Sherlock goes through the same questions he did in the pilot, but then when John asks him what the answer is, he has no idea.  I don't see why they included it, frankly.  (Actually, I figured out a reason once, but now I don't recall what it was.)

I totally loved that part of the pilot episode, the "invisible car."  Why, oh, why, wouldn't they leave that in?  It was brilliant!  It makes no sense that Sherlock wouldn't have been able to deduce that it was the London cab that could go everywhere and yet be invisible, as he did in the pilot.  GRRRRR!

I think it's included in"Study In Pink" during the fake drugs bust when Jeffrey Hope follows Mrs Hudson up to the doorway and is standing behind her. It kind of gets lost but I think it's in there.

I liked the "drunk Sherlock" bit!

Yes, that's when Sherlock realizes what's been going on.  But it's WAY delayed (compared to the pilot), even though Sherlock has been asking the (same) right questions -- which makes him look kinda dense.

Of course the real-life reason was that they wanted to prolong the suspense.  Just seems like there should have been some way of handling that without making Sherlock look dim-witted.

I agree, but I suppose he had his mind on food...even though it wasn't the right day of the week yet. Maybe that's why he was slow he hadn't taken the time to refuel his brain yet.

Well food is not a pressure point for Sherlock at all, which was mentioned in the pilot.  Even so, we rarely see him eat anything.  Probably would live on tea and biscuits if he could.

True, but maybe that's why he appeared less sharp at this point when he couldn't deduce the "ghost car" he hadn't tanked up yet.

Posted

Good point -- but try convincing him of that!

Actually, I think the only real meal we ever see him working on is in HLV when he meets up with Magnussen.  Of course, Magnussen ruins it by fishing through for the olive, then rinsing his fingers in Sherlock's water glass and flicking the water on his fingers back onto Sherlock's plate.

I just lost my appetite. Again.

He's eating in "TEH" when Mary runs up to 221b after she gets the text from Magnussen. Fish and chips by the looks.

Maybe that's what he does when John's not around.

It's just a magic trick.

Wasn't that the extra portions that Molly didn't help him eat?

Posted

Could have been I suppose but wasn't it much later? And since she didn't accept his offer, would he have gotten the extra portion? Not that it would make much if any difference. He was still eating. Maybe it was just the right day of the week.

Suddenly it flashed in my mind ... if Sherlock took Molly to Angelo's for a bite, would Angelo assumes it's a date? :)

Posted

Oh why the heck not. Angelo is a big hearted romantic. He probably just looks for excuses to put lit candles on the tables. It could also be excuse to keep the lights turned down and save on his electric bill.

He must have finished a case. He always eats after a case.

I like that idea.  He's all done thinking, so he can finally spare the energy for digestion.  This would help explain why he doesn't waste away entirely.
