That was a great video.  I like how the questions are edited out and it is just Benedict's answers.

Wow, doesn't look like an interview! Have to get to a stronger wifi signal so I can watch it, mine's crummy tonite. Thanks for sharing!

It's more of a "highlights" of the interview whilst they are filming him.

Finally got to see it, very nicely done. But I'm puzzled ... never heard of this "Flaunt", is this an ad for the magazine, or something like that?

Posted

Flaunt is the magazine I believe, I don't actually know it myself  I assume it is a UK based magazine.  The photos that I have seen are really good, great lighting and quite atmospheric.

Posted

Their website's no help, it's under revision. But it's described as "The monthly American fashion culture magazine." Which implies to me at least that it's a print mag which might be available in American bookstores soon...????

Posted

normally flaunt magazine photo shoot are very sophisticated and beautiful; the interviews are pretty refined.

and the magazine's expensive. at least as far as I remember. I haven't bought it for years.

Well, at least you've seen it.  I'd never even heard of it -- shows you the kind of circles I travel in!

Benedict on the Graham Norton show, this week (Friday, I think) .... no idea when this episode will show up in the States. Probably find it on YouTube first!

I don't know if it fits in this specific thread.. anyway, here it goes:

did you read the interview for OUT magazine? thoughts?

if it's  :offtopic:  feel free to move my post to the correct thread

It was an interesting interview & good pics. I enjoyed it but I'm the type of person that likes to hear/read others thoughts on things whether it is something they are doing (ie an acting project) or something about life in general. The interview kind of covered both broad areas.

Posted

I looove the pics.  this and all the latest photo shoot are really good. his new haircut suits him very well: mind you, I can be biased. I find him pretty good looking.

the interview is certainly interesting: he does come out a little harsh, though.

he kinda lives the "secluded life" (well, not really, but he does try and keep his private life rightly.. private), whilst he's being chased everywhere by paparazzi and screaming fans. must be hard.

he's a fully grown man and he knew what he was going against, when he took up the acting career, esp. with his parents being both actors.

still, I sometimes feel sorry for him, as for any other public figure in his situation, considered public property just cause they are in fact "public figures".

price to pay one can say? not sure it's as simple as that.

I have witnessed scenes, I'm sure most people here did, that made me feel embarrassed of being part of the fandom and most of the times they were not involving very young and still a little unexperienced (not meaning it at all as an offense) people. on the contrary.

I also think the fact benedict was speaking to a gay magazine set the tone of the conversation. he probably wouldn't have been so brutally honest if speaking to a for ex. Elle UK journalist.

or perhaps he was just in one of those days..: “I’ve spent a lot of time getting to where I’ve gotten by observing human behavior, so I’m really sensitive to it anyway,” he says. “And you can’t help but feel that you’re on show, which on good days is fine — you breeze through it, and do whatever you do as a performer and a human being to just feel relaxed and comfortable in your own skin. But we all have days when we’d rather not show our face for whatever reason — because we’re hungover, withdrawn, whatever it may be, physical or emotional. And then it’s really hard. It’s really, really hard, because you just don’t want to engage with it.”

I liked the article, thank you for pointing it out. Here's a link if anyone else wants to read it: http://www.out.com/entertainment/movies/2014/10/14/sherlock-star-benedict-cumberbatch-poised-make-alan-turing-his-own-imitation-game?page=0,0

I notice he doesn't seem to smile as much in photos anymore, I rather miss that. But I admire his forthrightness.

“People keep coming up to me and saying, ‘Oh, he’s so sexy, do you think [sherlock would be] interested in me?’ ” says Cumberbatch. “Do you not think he’d just look at you twice and tell you everything you hate about yourself and crumple you up like a little bit of paper and flick you away? He’s a machine and brutal and ruthless and has no time for the distractions of your fawning. Because, you know, they either want to make John [Watson] into a sort of cute little toy, or me into a cute toy, or we’re F***ing in space on a bed, chained together.”

Oh my god, thank you for linking to that article. Okay, this proves two things: No 1, Mr. C. has an idea of Sherlock that I absolutely love and No 2, he's read some pretty provocative fan fiction...

Finally the reveal.  I think he will prove to be very popular.   I love this quote "I just wish it could take selfies and sign autographs"

isn't the benedict wax stature impressive? I think it is

which leads me to a question: I noticed everyone here almost, or at least many members, refer to him as mr cumberbatch, same as they call martin, mr freeman etc.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, mine's a sort of friendly approach (I for one, would hate to be called M. L.).. but may still call benedict... benedict, martin.. martin and so on..?

finally, 38 y.o. middle aged?? are we joking??  O_o

Yeah, kinda strange, isn't it?  I know, for me, BC (see, that's what I do a lot) projects a bit of an air of formality, such that I want to either call him Mr. Cumberbatch or just the journalistic "Cumberbatch," even though we are generally age peers and one would guess I should be calling him by first name just because of that.  I suppose I'll call him "Benedict" when he asks me to do so.   Then again, I really prefer people call me "Mrs. Boton" (you know what I mean...) on the first address and then I'll ask them to call me by first name.

Yeah, no kidding.  I wasn't actually planning on having a "middle age" myself, so this kind of nonsense comment needs to stop right now.

Speaking ONLY for myself, it doesn't bother me to see others refer to the actors by their first names, or just their last names, or even fond nicknames. I do all those sometimes, depending on my mood. But sometimes I just feel most comfortable using "Mr. (or Ms.) LastName". For me I think it's mostly context, if I'm saying something I consider serious I tend to be more formal. But I'm hardly consistent.

Posted

I tend to use first names for actors/actresses in situations where people already know who I'm referring to.  I wouldn't go around saying Martin and Benedict or David and Gillian (X-Files) if people didn't already know who I'm referring to.   If I'm throwing their name in out of the blue I generally go for the full name.  I don't think I ever refer to them as Mr. or Mrs. or Miss or Ms..   But I hate being called Mrs. sittything so there you go.  It make me feel old (which I apparently am... see below)

Anyone care to join my club of obliviously middle-aged?   :xmas2:   Get off my lawn!

I dunno how famous people do it, honestly.  Maybe because I'm' an introvert, but for all the fame and money they give up an awful lot too.  It's been a few days since I've read it, but I didn't take issue with anything Benedict said in that interview.  I don't think he really owes it to fans to flatter them.  He's there to play a part, to hopefully not be downright rude to fans, but I think he has a right to speak his mind if something is bothering him or he disagrees with fans or their actions.  I actually found his interview really refreshing.  I think it's nice to see that it's not always sunshine and roses for actors/actresses/famous people.  They have off days too, their introverted/anti-social days, and some things are just going to get under their skin.  And I think that's OK, and I actually like seeing that because it makes them seem more like the rest of us.

I like how we :hijacked: this thread as we so like to do on this forum ;):)

Now to get back on topic.  For those interested and capable.  Tonight (just a few hours for most of those in the UK) Benedict Cumberbatch is on Graham Norton on BBC1.

For those of us in the US: BBC America on November 1.

If you're looking for the multi-page discussion of shocking fan fiction/art and age-related stereotypes, it's been split off into its own thread, here.

And here are the bits of moved posts that actually DID belong here:

Finally the reveal.  I think he will prove to be very popular.

At first I was like, yeah, it's Benedict Cumberbatch, um, so? and then I saw the second picture and I'm like OMG, I thought it was real! :)

I usually call the actors/tresses by first names if I'm talking to people that know whom I'm referring to.

otherwise I'd call benedict.. benedict cumberbatch, but never ever mr benedict. I'm formal when situation requires it, but it'd feel odd to call him mr cumberbatch when he's not even there.

even if I'll meet him, I'll surely say "hello, benedict" and will be still very respectful.

I always addressed the celebrities I met in past by their first name, was always very polite, never intrusive and they didn't seem to mind me calling them by their name at all.  :P

I refer to him as Benedict because I really don't think he is going to read any posts I write, so he isn't going to be thinking, "Benedict?  Isn't that a bit over-familiar, considering that we've never met?" :)

I just watched the Graham Norton show, Benedict meets Cumberwax .  A friend of mine from Australia was visiting Europe over the last few weeks and she go to see the Cumberwax in the "flesh" so to speak, she was impressed.

Here are some photos from The Graham Norton Show.  I wonder how they transport the wax figures?
