Hey, I DID mention his chipmunk pads! angry5.gif

ETA: It seems there is a group of people allowed to be near the carpet I think they were wearing red badges on their wrists. The rest stayed behind a second fence.

Many lovely photos of him and Sophie on Twitter

And if you click on VIDEO at the top of the page, you'll get videos with interviews etc.

Looked through some of that and saw the video where he realized his dad was there. The reaction made it seem like Benedict wasn't expecting to see him.

Is it a pair, though?  Or would one be bidding on one single shoe?  (And if the latter, then left or right?)  Such matters may be important to some potential bidders -- i.e., those wishing to actually wear said shoe(s) on special occasions.

They seem like copies of the original YSL ones from S1. So, the cause is good, is the autograph worth it?

Isn't the autograph rather the point?  Or at least the "who wore them"?  Otherwise they're just a pair of used shoes, with a fair market value of not much.

The man does donate a lot of his suits and shoes to various charities for auctions.  Good on him!

I wouldn't recommend wearing the shoes as the autograph is on the inside it looked like.

Autographed clothing should never be worn by the buyer.  It should be kept in acid-free paper for either posterity or future resale.  Depending on the "costume," an autograph can ruin the value of a costume but since his shoes are just shoes and not costume, the autograph adds to the value of the shoes, although not necessarily a great amount of added value.  It's not as if they are Picasso's bedroom slippers!  I do know people who collect and trade movie costumes.  A well-known (older) celebrity signed his name of one of his costumes owned by a fan (the fan had meant for him to sign something else) and the costume was basically devalued from that.  It was an accident.

For example, if Cate Blanchett were to autograph one of her costumes from The Lord of The Rings trilogy, she would actually devalue the costume. because in that case, the costume is more valuable than her signature, and her signature would deface the costume.

Those shoes have never been worn, they are simply autographed, so, according to sfmpco, their value would not be much more than an ordinary autograph on a Hamlet programme! Collecting seems to be an addiction, like any other, so I shall stick to my low-tar for the foreseeable future!

Those shoes have never been worn...

Really?  I will admit that I merely had the impression that they were some of Mr. Cumberbatch's actual shoes (and not just in the sense that he had paid for them).  At the risk of sounding truly desperate for something to discuss, did you read that somewhere (and if so, where?) or is it simply your impression?

It says so in the advertisement. The wording is pretty straightforward. Blah, blah, blah, personally signed by BC, never mentions "worn". In fact, it rather adroitly sidesteps ( horrid pun, please excuse) the point. Whoever bids should ask straight out if they were ever worn by BC, because they even look brand new.

Failure to say he's worn them isn't equivalent to saying that he has not.  The implication seems to be that they're his shoes in some meaningful sense, but as you point out, they don't specify -- so maybe yes, maybe no.  For the sake of the bidders, I would certainly hope that they're his size and that he at least slipped them (or it, as the case may be) on once.  Otherwise (as somebody already said) what's the point of an autographed shoe?  (Quite frankly, what's the point of an autographed shoe in any case?)

Hey, don't knock it -- we now have a theme!  ^_^

The discussion of the "Who's Your British Celebrity Husband" quiz has been moved to the "Non-SHERLOCK Quizzes" thread.  (A close call, I admit, but it's not technically a Sherlock-related quiz, even though two of the possible options are Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. )

Could I have a Moffat wax figure, pretty please? I could mould him into Dracula, Ghenkis Khan, Attila, or simply stick pins into him.

Very creepy.  Probably a good thing they didn't release her name to the public as the fans in her part of the world would likely harass her to death.
