I sort of imagine Mycroft as blending in to any gathering (unlike Sherlock, who must always stand out :) -- calmly, of course. That's where I get the phlegmatic from, I guess.

I see...

A long time ago I stumbled into an article about choleric, it said that col people are capable to mimic any behaviour in the name of pursuing their objective. There is that possibility, lol.

Nope, they sound plausible to me. Although I barely understood the second one, which must have been written before S3 ("we don’t see him kill or attempt to kill anyone in any of the episodes"). I wonder what that person thinks now?

I don't know for sure if the first one describes Sherlock, but it sure as heck describes me!

Duly noted that you are like described there, a mad scientist bent to unravel mysteries. ;)

If the writer is anything like us, s/he probably write that the kill is an emotional-based decision and the result of someone pushed to the corner.

But sounds cliché and hopefully not inviting any wrath, I endure spending long period of time with male friends much better than females.

Don't say it's stereotype but can't really stand dramas, complains, indecisiveness and 'clingyness' that most of my female friends have.

And the time that some of them take to choose what to eat drive me nuts. More often than not, it ends up that they like and want (and steal) what I eat at the end.

 this has become a rant..

No wrath, don't worry, but this is something that I hear a lot from women, and I've never quite understood it. I've never had any trouble working on all-female teams, and I definitely prefer the company of women to that of men in general. There are exceptions, of course - my husband, for example, or my father. But apart from that... Men, to me, are just from a different planet. And they don't seem to like me, either. I also have zero interest in most "guy things".

But then, I don't think I've ever had any very girly friends. The few women I am close to are very independent and know what they want. As for drama - heck, I like a bit of that. I sympathize with neurotic people.

Maybe it's influenced with upbringing and chosen activities?

I have three brothers, learned to be self-reliant since I was a kid, eat fast (or starve!) and there were almost zero drama in our sibling relationships. All of us stay apart now, don't even communicate regularly because none of us are fans of social or commnication media and we don't feel the need to chat at all unless there is something important, but we are very close (I don't know how to explain).

The influence stop there, since young, I myself found my passion in 'guys things/mostly male activity (while none of my brothers do 'guy things') and because of that, I gain more male friends. Maybe that's why I relate to them more.

P.S. I think I never participate here before, and almost missed this because my quote and all other notifications are broken.

I remember I checked this out but a bit confused.., where is the Myers-Briggs quiz?

Although I know mine is INTJ and I'm Choleric Melancholic.

Definitely a T here, but not that much of a T!

Van Buren, I'm sorry, I saw your post before but somehow missed your question ... if you're still interested, a version of the Myers-Briggs test is here. It's eerily accurate for most people.

Nature vs nurture, the jury is still out. T ladies, I dare to say that most of them know how is it to be pressured even by their nuclear family to behave more 'girly'. Not that it is going to change what we are, heh :p

Certainly a lot of pressure on this one to dress more 'girly', use more makeup, fiddle with my hair, etc. *sigh*

Thanks! I think it's different with the one I took,   this but my result is the same INTJ and it's creepily accurate. (I always wonder, how come it's accurate? Zodiac and all.. I mean it's 12 or 16 to billionssss)

My family has given up, but once in a while I wear a dress (when it's appropriate) and enjoy seeing how long before they recognize me.

"You are a girl, be more sensitive/sympathetic", " Smile more", "That's a difficult subject, why don't you choose...., there are a lot of girls there", " Don't square your shoulders (heck, that's how my body shape is!) like a man", "Your expression is so cold (well excuse me, I don't feel like listening to your prattle and that's the result)", "You will scare boys away by being so serious (do'oh, why would I want those spineless wimps? I'd rather be alone and free)", "Don't answer back/be docile", etc. Anyone want to add more? :D

I have a lot moreeee but I'm brain clogged for now, later when I'm well rested, well, some rest will do.

But it really doesn't help when I have all 'boys' hobbies while my brothers don't.

 I made my brother jump once by showing up in a dress, he didn't realize it was me until I started talking.

I never had anyone tell me those directly, but I certainly got the message anyway from society at large. My favorite: don't act too intelligent or boys will be scared off. Well, maybe boys were, but guess what ... men aren't! Ones you'd want, anyway.

" Don't square your shoulders (heck, that's how my body shape is!) like a man",

Okay, not that it should have anything to do with one's psyche, but hell, my body shape and general body expression caused so many delicious moments (I just loved to confuse people), which are still remembered by friends and told like some kind of hero stories. :D

"You will scare boys away by being so serious

Yepp, sounds familiar.

My favorite: don't act too intelligent or boys will be scared off. Well, maybe boys were, but guess what ... men aren't! Ones you'd want, anyway.

Hmm... I manage even to scare men. All of them. The line about too intelligent I heard from my friend. I answered that I won't play an idiot only to spread my genes (which I never wanted anyway).

But other than that - I cannot decide between INTP and INTJ, because in the test I was somehow in the middle between P and J. Also some aspects of the description don't fit, while others from other groups do, it also depends on the different interpretations. A bit confusing. But I and T seem to be right.

Anyway, INTP and INTJ are apparently the smallest groups in the whole population. Well - that's why we feel we live in the world of goldfish

I can't resist using one of my beloved quotes from Jane Austen novels here: "Men of sense do not want silly wives."

Guys who can't tolerate an intelligent women often have some insecurity issues if you ask me. Quite often, they also can't tolerate intelligent men either (or anybody superior to them in any way), they just show it differently.

I've never been told to behave more femininely (is that even a word?). I have however received advice that in essence boiled down to being more "masculine", like curb my emotions, wear more trousers, lower my voice, be more assertive etc.

We can't any of us change who we are, though. I have trouble being taken seriously because I am "girly" (and no, I don't attract any men that way either because guess what, a lot of them can't relate to femininity and find displays of it unsettling, alienating, off-putting and / or silly). I've learned to use that in my favor though. If necessary, I am not above pampering someone's ego or playing the damsel in distress.

Tsk tsk, what a hopeless bunch we are. Why can't we just be perfect like we're supposed to be, so the rest of the world can get along with its business?

Your brother did not immediately recognize you in a dress? Please tell me that you squeezed some pranks on that basis. :D

@JP: *grins* long live the pranksters!

Because the world would be a very boring place and would stagnate without our oddball presence *stuck nose in the air snobbishly* :DDD

Even now as girls become women and boys become men, I find that 'strong & self-sufficient ladies' often become target of 'thaw the ice queen' scheme or being viewed as someone 'to give lesson so they realize their place in the food chain'. It is a heady feeling when beating them at their own game, goldfishes make tasty if rather light snack. Anyone else experienced something like that?

SD - woman, INTJ borderline ENTJ, 8 w7 (whatever the heck alphabet soup is, it surely make a nice tool to construct a character :p)

Alas, no, I didn't realize he didn't recognize me until I opened my big mouth and gave it away. That's a good idea for the future, though! Maybe show up on his doorstep on Halloween.....

Why not at family gathering? See if he can recognize you after a judicious application of cosmetics :D

Egad, no  one will recognize me then! :D

Even better! The joke would not only to your brother but the whole family. Make it an extended family gathering / event where there's possibility for a few invited strangers milling around. :D

I actually made it pass everyone when wearing gown and make up in a wedding once, even in close proximity. I even got polite nods and friendly smiles while seeing their brain-gear turning trying to decide if I'm an important guess they should know.

What are your fictional character for the personality types?

Mine are cool (but mostly psycho/sociopath XD):

Moriarty, House, Hannibal, Walter White, Gandalf.

The females are Katniss (Hunger Games) and Clarice Sterling.

Maybe it's no coincidence that I like all the characters.

In fact, other than Gandalf (LOTR can't keep me awake, sorry), they comes from my faborite shows.

Most are likely same as yours. Lionel Luthor from Smallville, Lex Luthor, Michael Corleone from The Godfather, Daenerys Targayen, Jean Luc Picard, etc.

By the way, this is an article with self-explanatory title mandywallace.com/the-character-most-writers-get-wrong/ IMHO, not only most writers get it wrong but also most often misunderstood by the audience!
