I've moved the ensuing biscuit/cracker discussion to The Language Thread, where we presumably stand a better chance of a British answer.

That's no fun.  We love to have :hijacked: with language discussions

See I always thought Mycroft would mean the end of Sherlock. Like when the series just can't go any longer... Mycroft & Sherlock no longer see each other as brother's, Mycroft feels threatened, actually endangered by Sherlock, so Mycroft ends it with an air strike on 221B Baker street. That would be the final episode... Fade to black...

The credits roll by, but then when they're all done, you see a scene with Sherlock and John crawling out of a pile of rubble, covered in dust but relatively unscathed.

That would be a total  Mofftiss ending right there.  Just because they wanted to toy with us even though they didn't have to.  And our response would be in some form or other:  :blowmytop:  :o   O_o  :picard:  :soapbox:  :shoot:  :flame: & we'd probably want to go all :jedi: against them

Nice use of your ten-per-post smiley limit!  :D

Thank you.

If Moriarty is indeed alive, or has some kind of surviving brother or ally out for revenge, then I am really worried about Molly. Whoever must know of her involvement in Sherlock getting away by now, and I very much doubt she'll be overlooked as one of his friends again. All I hope is that Sherlock won't let anything happen to her. While I really am not in favor of the idea of her becoming his girl friend, I do think that his reaction to the agents who hurt Mrs Hudson in A Scandal in Belgravia would pale in comparison to what he'd do to anyone who laid a finger on Molly.

(By the way, isn't it strange how unfazed Molly seems by the fact that a man she dated turned out to be the most dangerous criminal psychopath - and in Moriarty's case, I think the term "psychopath" is really adequate - in England? If something like that happened to me, I'd be a bundle of nerves. Well, I am anyway. Molly is pretty amazing. I have an inkling that she may be quite a tough cookie underneath that sweet exterior).

It's probably her MB personality type!  She analyzes, rather than reacts (is that P vs J?) -- one reason she's able to deal with all those corpses without freaking out.  So she's not "being brave" -- i.e., it's not something she does, it's just the way she naturally is.

If anything did happen to Molly, I could see Sherlock's sociopathic tendencies coming out. Obviously they would be very calculated so as to have minimal risk on Molly.

LEAST DEVASTATING:  Mary, for two reasons.  1.) I don't like her and won't miss her       2.) It would not be unexpected since Doyle got rid of Mary too.

BREAK MY HEART: Mycroft. I adore the relationship between Mycroft and Sherlock. They are the only two that understand each other, truly understand each other's minds, hearts, motivations, weaknesses, strengths, histories etc.   I think the bond is strong and as much as they snark, I think they each would be devastated by the loss of the other.  Without Mycroft, I think that Sherlock would really be anchorless and drifting.  (John might someday be that anchor, and Sherlock might say John is that anchor, but I don't see it yet.)

I would also be devastated (not as much) by the loss of Molly.   I really want Sherlock to fall in love with her.  Not act on it.  Not become her boyfriend.  No romance.  I want him to resist it!  Benedict would play it beautifully.   I want to see that.  I just do.   Sigh...what is the topic again?  lol

Well, not Mary.  Not yet anyway.  I think she still has something to give to the story.

NEVER Mycroft.  He's the linchpin.  Nobody would be the same without him.

Not Molly, either ... although just once I'd love to see her thrust the coffee cup into Sherlock's hand and say "For God's sake, Sherlock, take a pill !" and turn around and walk out the door.  I'd love to see the look on his face !  :D

Altho possibly she should deliver different advice, given Sherlock's proclivities!

Yeah, I'm still wanting to see some sort of Sherlock/Molly storyline, I'm not even sure I care what it is ... I just like watching them interact.

There is a Sherlock/Molly storyline, friend it's just that being part of the Unobservant Sherlockians Club, you may not have noticed. It's more of a nice subplot, actually. S1: Sherlock pushes Molly around; S2: Molly starts to speak out a little on her feelings ("Who was that [Woman]? How does Sherlock know her?"], and Sherlock manipulates her instead of blatantly pushing her; and S3: Molly bites back when Sherlock snarks about her breakup with Tom, because she won't stand for it, having the guy she crushes on make her do his dirty work.

I could tolerate Mary's death very easily. She has crossed the line, as far as I'm concerned, and there's no way back.

The least tolerable death would be Lestrade's. Though I would be sorry to lose Molly or Mrs Hudson or even Mycroft, I'd be appalled if they killed off the silver fox. I've always had a lot of sympathy for Lestrade, going back to the original ACD stories, and in this incarnation he is just lovely. (I hated what they did to his character in Elementary.)

You sure? You think Mycroft understands Sherlock's affection for his friends, his "heart of a poet", his decision to be a detective and live in a chaotic little flat instead of using his talents to become a "philosopher or politician", his attraction to Irene Adler?

I don't think Mycroft understands his brother at all. He keeps underestimating how human he is, and that causes trouble time and again, from the shooting of Magnussen to Irene getting him to crack the plane code.

Mycroft truly is a cold fish, if you ask me, while Sherlock only tries to be one. He tries to live up to his brother's ideals, but he's never going to be as good at it as Mycroft. And I was thrilled when, in series 3, it seemed that Sherlock was finally realizing that maybe his brother's way of doing things is neither the best nor his only option. "Not you". Exactly, Sherlock! Grow up and step out of your brother's goddam shadow!

I'm not denying they have a brotherly bond. They come from "the same planet", clearly, and of course there are things only they can understand and only they can talk about. And they do love each other, in a very weird, warped, dysfunctional, possibly unhealthy Holmesian way.

I just want Sherlock to outgrow him. Mycroft pushes all my wrong buttons. And the torture scene was final for me. Line crossed. I can't forgive that. I can totally forgive Mary for the shooting, but not Mycroft for sitting with his feet on the table and enjoying the sight of his brother being brutally beaten to a pulp.

Yeah, I know, I meant I still want to see their storyline develop! I'm just not sure into what.

I go back and forth on this one. On one hand, often for humorous effect, Sherlock seems clueless about feelings. On the other hand, sometimes I think both he and Mycroft understand very well what feelings ARE; at times they are almost uncannily able to read other people. That's when I think they're both just protecting themselves, or something. Sometimes I think Mycroft's a cold fish; other times I think he's just better at hiding his emotions than Sherlock is. I love the scenes between them, frankly; it kind of reminds me of the 2 Terminators going at each other in Terminator 2. :)

I just had this thought for the end of the series and Mycroft & Sherlock being taken out (was just watching TGG for the umpteenth time).  Somehow (and in a way that only Mofftiss could do it to torment us fully, just because) Moriarty manages to take out the Holmes boys while they are trying to take him out.

Who said Mycroft wields a weapon? He's got people for that.

So then, how would he get taken out! I guess your previous post gave me a visual of 3 men facing off with one another

And we don't know what is so important about that brolly that Mycroft is sssooo attached to could be an uzi hidden in there. But kill off Sherlock Holmes?  WHAT?!?  IMPOSSIBLE....these people are IMMORTAL!  You cannot simply kill them off after a hundred and fifty years! It simply isn't done.

Sherlock can't be killed. He's known to be indestructible.
