I had a real explanation at one time but after everyone else pointed out the flaws in it I decided to believe in fairies instead.

I like the crown and monarch butterfly wings to go with that line. Totally hilarious.

I know: for a case Sherlock has to pretend he's doing "A Midsummers Night Dream" (if I'm remembering the correct one) and in keeping with how Shakespeare's plays were originally cast he ends up being Tatiana Queen of the Fairies.

Or as ACD's Sherlock is a master of disguise Sherlock in disguise has Benedict's natural auburn hair (which is filmed before he goes back to Sherlock dark with red highlights).

When I was trying to figure things out prior to series 3 airing, I could never come up with a theory that answered all my questions and would make a great story. I kind of expected the Sherlock writers to do that for me - hey, they're the professionals! I guess I expected too much.

Actually, my feeling is that Moftiss's big mistake was trying to explain every single little thing. If a writer is going to do that, they need to come up with all of the explanations before they film the first half of a two-parter.

When they filmed "Reichenbach," they apparently had a general idea of where they were headed, but had not yet dotted the i's and crossed the t's.  If they'd stuck with that general explanation, we'd have been left with a number of minor questions, sure (good fanfic fodder!), but at least we wouldn't be stuck with a bunch of conflicting major "facts."

But that does seem to be Moftiss's problem -- they always want everything to be clever!

If it is not in some way clever, then it is not Sherlock as he is clever while everyone else tries to be and usually fails.

Yes, but that's not exactly what I meant.  Sherlock himself does indeed need to be clever, even to a fault (as Moriarty pointed out).  My intended point was that Moftiss seem to share that characteristic, sometimes to the detriment of the story.

Ah, I get it.

The 3rd siblings gets revealed but in a blurry/fuzzy mind palace thing.  Sherlock is racking his brain for some information for the case he's working on and a faint fuzzy image/scene pops up showing the sibling and what happened.  Sherlock jerks, breathes heavily & his pulse quickens as he tries to quickly get that out of his mind so that he can focus on the task he's trying to accomplish.  And since it's a fuzzy image, the 3rd sibling will not be easily identifiable. (Because why would Moftiss make it easy? ;) )

Fuzzy images typically indicate a blocked-out memory. Blocked-out memories indicate psychologically traumatic events forcefully forgotten to remain mentally stable enough to function properly.

Thus, the sibling may be the centre of whatever traumatic event that may have occured.

But if it's fuzzy how will I see Hiddleston?

Very much true and if Moftiss were to do something like that, the 3rd sibling would somehow relate to the case Sherlock is working on when the mind palace incident happens.

But if it's fuzzy how will I see Hiddleston?

It's Moftiss we're talking about to a degree, why would they make it easy at that point.  Who knows, maybe later in the episode or in another one, we get a clear image thus revealing Hiddleston or whoever gets cast as the 3rd sibling.

hiddles would be a perfect new entry :D

That's fine... I can live with that, I think.

Am I the only person who actually does not think so? Nothing whatsoever against Tom Hiddlestone, but I neither want a third Holmes sibling, nor do I want another famous actor on the show. I want the attention fixed firmly and securely on Sherlock.

How about we try reverse psychology too...

What I DO expect to happen (and therefore it won't):

... Mrs. Hudson turns into a bird and flies around 221B all day, squawking. Sherlock doesn't notice the difference...

  Pictures in my head, saving them for a good laugh later.

Seriously, "Sherlock doesn't notice the difference." Brilliant!!

Not to mention that with a famous actor it's always rubbed in my face that what I'm watching is not real.

Don't worry, I'm not delusional. I think...

On the other hand, I don't mind the idea of a third Holmes brother so much, as long as he is not on the side of the angels. I want the third sibling to be a complicated villain type. Someone who's not entirely evil. And I want Sherlock to beat him in a battle of minds, then put him away in prison, but with a somewhat heavy heart.

ehm, as I posted a few days ago, I also think a 3rd sibling would not be "strictly necessary" to the plot, and that I hoped he'd not be some kind of sherlock identical twin or smt.

IF he has to be inserted in the story, then I hope it'd be hiddles: I really like him and it'd be good, at least for me

a villain brother would be best, I agree. comes to my mind the jaguar ad tom starred in (it's good to be bad): that sort of look, with raven hair, vintage elegant suit, would be just very holmes

and yes, I agree tom'd steal the scene a little: both him and benedict are great actors, with great charisma.

then it'd be up to moffat & gatiss to balance their importance and presence on screen with the script.

No, you're not. I don't want a third Holmes sibling either and about Hiddlestone... well, I don't even know if I've ever seen something with him in it but I figured out he's pretty famous... and I think Mofftiss said somewhere that they didn't want to have famous actors in Sherlock so I don't think we should worry about it ;)

If you ever get a chance, watch Thor and Avengers.  Hiddleston is fabulous as Loki.  Like to the point that Loki may be my favorite character, and he's the freakin' villain.

I can't say I really wanted a 3rd Holmes brother until it was mentioned and the internet rumor mill threw out Hiddleston's name.  Now, I don't think this is actually going to happen.   Nothing in Gatiss' statement makes me think this is going to become reality.  But it's a nice thought to keep me occupied until 2016.  :)

If they do show a 3rd sibling, maybe do it as a cameo/flashback so they could get away with a star such as Hiddleston without taking away from Sherlock.

I don't know that Hiddleston (Sherrinford) would take away from Sherlock anymore than Mycroft (and I love Gatiss) does (which I don't think he does at all).   I mean unless they cast the actual character of Loki as the 3rd brother, and then well... all bets are off.  lol

Oh, but I do think that Mycroft takes away from Sherlock. They've blown his character up until he's all out of proportion. The original Mycroft only appeared in two of over 50 stories, and only to provide cases. Watson didn't even know he existed for years, and Holmes was his own man who solved his own problems. BBC Mycroft is incredibly overpowering with his seemingly limitless power, his omniscience, his unshakable calm, his smug "I know better than you" non-smiles, and his material resources. He's like some kind of fairy godmother, minus the benevolence. Of course he's incredibly convenient for the plots. They can write themselves into all kinds of corners and then just have Mycroft sort everything out.

Can i have a few words please?

Come to think of it the writers called themselves Sherlock-Geeks and they're trying to do everything by the book but in modern ways. And didn't anybody get disturbed by Moriarty not being The Proffesor? I mean he's just a consulting villain, ok i get it. In the series there was part that everyone went crazy about Sherlock creating Moriarty, including Sherlock; also Sir A.C. Doyle wrote a story about it back in the day. The thing that i was saying is the Moriarty person is not the person who we think he is. He really is a artist hired by the real Moriarty. First one is dead. Now the second one. Lots of years have past and it's enough time and really possible for someone to get better from series of heavy surgery.

I really don't have any idea about this season's stories. They've already did the epic ones. The Hound, The Woman and The Study in Scarlet(Pink). But in Moffat's hand it's gonna get better i think.
