Won't play for me, what am I missing, what am I missing!!!!!! AtO1FDk.gif

Not a clue. It played for me on my iPhone but it was mostly in German which I don't speak. The only thing I caught was Benedict leading someone in meditation as Benedict was speaking English not German.

I am not reading it.. although normally I'm not concern about spoiler for superhero movie, as plot is not their main strength, but I'd prefer not knowing anything for full enjoyment.

Watching tomorrow morning.

Gah.. a friend is visiting and wants to watch it with me. I kind of getting used to and love watching movies by myself now.

I want to be sheepish hearing BC's voice on my own!

Well, basic translation is that Bild, being something like a downmarket New York Times, has a newsroom that is always alive with voices, news coming in, deadlines to meet and the rest, but Benedict brought them all to stand still and meditate for a minute, just like he learnt to do as a 17-year old when he taught English at a Tibetan monastery. And then came the blurb about Dr Strange coming to the cinema that evening, SherlockedCamper. Old hat, to Sherlock fans, that!

The thing is, BC made a little lead meditation in that busy room.

I would like to have a lead medidtation read by him. Who wouldn't. :)

What's a shame - Bild is the LAST newspaper I would expect BC to talk to. :/

Could not get to the page either. But anyway, BLÖD (we call it that, which means stupid) is not my newspaper of choice either, haha...so not a lot to miss. Meditation with Benedict Strange would be cool though. By the way, here's a game you can win the tacky bedcovers and a 100€ voucher for the Elbenwald store, funnily advertised as 'In Bed with Benedict Cumberbatch'....:

https://www.elbenwald.de/Gewinnspiel-Ins-Bett-mit-Benedict-Cumberbatch-100-Euro-Gutschein?utm_source=All&utm_campaign=DoctorStrangeGewinnspiel&utm_medium=email&sPartner=sCampaign529

By the way, does anybody know which actor's look Dr.Strange is based on? That's the question to enter the win. I have not the slightest idea...

On wednesday I went extra early to the movie theatre, so on my way I made a little tour to the Zoo Palast to see if there was anything interesting to watch, but it was probably just a private showing with a few people who also won a meet and greet with Benedict somewhere on the radio or whatever, so there was no red carpet or anything, just the usual. People waiting in front of the building and all that, and a huuuge Dr.Strange advertisement. Okay, So there was nothing really to miss if you had no tickets for that particular film screening with Benedict, Tilda and the director, who visited Berlin that day...

So I went to my destination of choice to see the film in english of course, the Sony Center Original. And it was just awesome. I don't say much to spoil no ones fun, only that the waiting for the film was worth it. I saw a bit of Sherlock in the beginning, as Benedict had to play that arrogant bit. :D

But furthermore I saw neither any Sherlock nor Hannibal references, and I was superimpressed by Tilda Swinton as ancient one. I mean I know she is one really brilliant actress, but that role suited her so well, and she looks beautiful with no hair.

Also, I laughed a LOT (great dialogues and sitcom), and the post-credit scene (the first one, there are two) was hilarious - guest appearance by Thor is the only thing I say!  So sit until the last credit has rolled through, there are 2 post-credit-scenes.  :)

OLD horror movie aficionados. ;)

Or -- wait a minute -- is Dr. Strange actually based on Stephen Vincent Benet? (Who looked nothing like that, by the way.)

Nor was he an actor.

You can never know with Stan Lee! Both Spider-Man and Dr Strange are his creations, and as Mrs Hudson pointed out over another matter altogether: Who knows what goes on in tha funny head of his. In past tense for Lee, of course.

The post-credit sequence is a hoot

with Thor's little family 'problem'! How in the whole Germanic mythology can you misplace the Allfather? :D (Unless, of course, he read Douglas Adams' The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul and went for some rest and relaxation and crisp linen sheets changed twice daily :D )

But the best bit for me was a Sherlock-moment, when the Dr puts up the lapels of the coat, in his usual Belstaff flip, and they start slightly slapping him: 'Oh, stop that' was my favourite one-liner.

It doesn't actually say 'spoilers' on this thread, is that a given?

Incidentally, I had no idea that particular pantheon was ' Germanic'...I always think Norse.

Right, this is not an official spoiler thread, so please enclose any and all spoilers in a spoiler box, as a courtesy to those who have not yet had a chance to see the movie.

Eh... why it's not showing in US yet? Isn't it the origin for Marvel or something, so how come it'll be a week late compared to almost the rest of the world..

Anyway, saw it, I didn't know it has two post credit, only waited for one. I was skipping Bluebell post previously to avoid knowing anything. (And apparently I didn't XD)

Not much of review, but I put in the box

Maybe because it's superhero movie, I don't think more about it after I leave the theatre (good movies for me usually leave some impression or make me think long time after that) so I don't blame it. Of course I can't expect superhero movie to have sufficient character depth and growth, I do think Stephen Strange has a lot of potential but of course that's the most we got and it's not bad try.

He is very Sherlocky in the beginning, maybe I am biased, because he looks great as surgeon and of course arrogant genius. (always have soft spot for arrogants but only those who can back it up with real abilities).

The special effects are quite amazing, although sometimes feel like it's collaboration of experts and interns (some are great some are very raw), none of the music stands out for me.

I actually like the costumes, the best being the main villain, Mad's character. Dr.Strange's blue costume is nicer than I expected because it's not as tacky as I thought it would be. But the cape.. eh.. cloak..! It's...it's....uneven! Puff puff.. uneven cuts and uneven application...uneven!!

but I like that it's sentient.

There are funny moments, like it, although some are predictable.

And I think managing space and time is a very cool super power to have. Look at Everest! I want one.

Oh, everything means nothing because BC and Mad were talking. It's like a private symphony to my ears. I can't concentrate. Not even on their faces. :p

Not only is there a delayed release here (possibly timed to coincide with the Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday season), but some people's schedules don't permit them to rush right out and see it.

Release here in the US is November 4th (this coming Friday). Are there any countries with a later date?

Posted

Soooo... I finally went to see it.

To be honest: I was kind of underwhelmed. Of course, I am no a Marvel fan in general, nor a fan of superheroes. But there have been a few Marvel flicks I enjoyed, and this wasn't really one of them. It was nice going to the cinema and having popcorn and so on but that was basically it for me.

I liked Tilda Swinton's character. Kind of wish they had made the movie about her.

I only got into Marvel through Hiddles.  :blush2:

But I have to say, I really enjoyed this.

Did you like the credits bit?!
