The guard said it was a gun.  There is talk elsewhere from the setlockers that there was a shot.  At some point Sherlock goes down in some sort of trauma, either emotional or physical, and the WIR does not help him.  Perhaps Ophelia finally gives Hamlet his comeuppance.

Someone pointed out the "weird" nurse uniforms. This is true, I remember those funny hats from Poland and I' kind of used to them, so it didn't catch my eye, but it would indicate that the "hospital" scenes are flashbacks from the past. It's hard to say when in the past, research is difficult, because there are thousands of styles. The puffy sleeves... eighties? forties?

I hadn't seen any photos before, but looked at those just now.  The caps look like typical American nurses' caps from back when nurses wore caps -- so 20th century, at any rate (assuming that British nurses wore similar caps).  The sleeves are only slightly puffy, so who knows?

In the second photo, who is the person in dark clothing at the far right?  Presumably not a doctor or nurse.  Could be Sherlock's coat, but doesn't look to me quite like his hair.  The WiR is wearing a dark coat, but she has blond hair.

Oh, wait a minute.  If that's the same person as in this photo (originally posted here by sfmpco), then looks to me like it could be Steven Moffat.  If so, presumably there as producer, rather than for a cameo.

Added:  Several of the comments on the page that I linked to there also think it's Moffat.  Not sure it's the same person as in the other photo, though.

All these photos look like a re-enactment of the same people around the oval table with intravenous drips that was shot in broad daylight and has been posted above. And why are they using the same building that Moriarty used to write one of his IOU messages on its windows?

Is the WIR holding a gun?  Does she shoot Sherlock and is that why she doesn't help him?

The person who posted that on twitter said, "you can kind of see her holding gun."  I take that to mean she may be holding something that could be a gun.  Looks to me like it could be a camera.  Whatever it is (if anything), Sherlock seems to be holding his hand out for it.  Let's wish him better luck than last time!

To me it looks sort of like her cane, with the end of the handle turned toward us instead of toward herself like you would normally see. Look at the way her hand is resting on whatever it is. Also if you look carefully you can see what looks like the rest of the stick coming out below the 4th picket from the right.

On the other hand, I agree it also looks like it could be a compact camera, if people actually have compact cameras with such lengthy lenses anymore. (?) But it looks like she could be looking at or reading something on some sort of device, doesn't it? I also think I see something white in her right hand. A Kleenex? The piece of paper that Sherlock was holding earlier?

Sherlock's demeanor is oddly casual around her.... he's not often that relaxed even around John, is he?

And why are they using the same building that Moriarty used to write one of his IOU messages on its windows?

Do you mean the building that Sherlock sees when he looks out of Lestrade's window in TRF? I don't think they're the same building ... similar architectural style, but in the TRF building, the windows have several horizontal panes in them; in this scene, the window panes are vertical. Also the TRF building doesn't seem to have that railing-type thing in front of the windows.

It looks more like a camera than a gun to me.  I can't think of any circumstance when you would hold a gun between your fingers in that way and still have the barrel pointing away from you like that, whereas that's a more typical way to hold a camera.  Or, who knows, a piece of lab equipment or other type of evidence.

Some of the comments surrounding that point to Sherlock having tossed something (guard said a gun) & his palm is open facing up as if waiting for something to be handed to him, so it could be that she's about to hand him the gun.  Also whatever Sian is holding would be at the wrong angle for the cane as the pic shows what looks like her cane angling down from the right on the right hand side of the pic.

Come this time next year we'll be hashing out all of this all over again but in the what were they thinking, mind blown way versus the speculation we've got going now.

Oh, you're right, I see the cane now.

Could be a piece of plum pudding, I suppose. Weren't they seen eating together earlier? Maybe Sherlock's still hungry....

Just got to thinking if WIR is someone in his mind palace - what if she is his mother from his youth?

Posted

That would be interesting if it were.

but no glasses on Mummy Holmes in S3....

Contacts or eye surgery could correct that.  Maybe got it after the boys were grown.

That could explain the anguish we've been seeing. And the fact that he doesn't seem to be his usual formal self.

Lovely!

Glad at the moment it's a bit slow, so  I can follow easier. ;) - currently no computer at home, so I have not to reads bulks later with my little time on the line....in moments like this I miss my old laptop (RIP), but generally, life offline is less stressful, as there's now more time for other stuff that usually piles up because I am busy on my computer looking at wonderful creative stuff such as this here. :D

Okay... a hug besides a black car. Pre-separation perhaps, like Sherlock is going somewhere but this time he told John about it?

Posted

Someone identified the picture as being from Season 2. It's Ben and Martin hugging, not John and Sherlock. Although it would be sweet to see!

Actually, I'm virtually certain it's from S3E2 (and just tweeted to that effect). The man opening the car door and the woman beside him sure look like director Colm McCarthy and producer Susie Liggat. (See my S3E2 North Gower location-filming thread for photos of them.)

Maybe they were practicing for the wedding-reception scene? ;)
