Series 4 Rumors

The question is when!?  Benedict and Martin are so in demand right now. And the production is so perfect in every detail that it takes time to organise, film and edit. I still haven't memorised every line though, so I have something to keep me busy till then...

  There are more then one Moriarty brother wandering around out there determined to clear his deceased brother's name so this remains to be seen. Moffat and Gatiss are pretty adamant that Jim and Sherlock did not fake death each other. 

 
The BBC wants another Season before the end of this year. Amanda said in an interview that Martin Freeman's schedule would be cleared in March or by May, can't remember which one...but any way. Benedict Cumberbatch seems to be clearing his schedule as well. Moffat and Gatiss says that they are already working on fleshing out Season's 4 and 5. That train ride to Cardiff seems to be very conductive in spurring Moffat and Gatiss to think about all things Holmesian.

As for the Series 4 schedule, I believe Ms. Abbington said April.  But I sure hope the writers take whatever time they need to maintain quality.  And I hope the BBC knows better than to goad them into ruining the show.

The new season is going to be released in the begining of 2015.  So it is possible that they will record it in May. Then they will edit it and put some music in and that takes a while. So be ready for it in the begining of 2015

There was a rumour going round for a while that it would be at the end of 2014, but I think since then it's been disspelled and we're looking at possible the end of 2015-beginning of 2016. So I think we have a while. The sad thing is this time we don't really have a big mystery to try and work out in the meantime...

Sherlock Pressure Points - Case Notes

 

 

Case notes:
- For those wanting to know the full list of Sherlock's pressure points, there are five repeated over and over again: John Watson, Jim Moriarty, Irene Adler, The Hounds of the Bakerville, Redbeard.
- We're not going to attempt to run through all of the canon references Moffat crammed in here, but Janine's cottage in the Sussex Downs was a particularly lovely one. In 'His Last Bow', Holmes retires to "a small farm upon the Downs" and takes up beekeeping. Don't be in too much of a rush to get rid of those hives, Janine…
- Speaking of which, it turns out Sherlock and Janine never actually did the deed, despite her obvious best efforts. Which means the ambiguity around Sherlock's virginity can simmer quietly on.
- "I still don't understand." "And there's the back of the T-shirt." We're glad Magnussen is dead, but he had some first-class sass on him.
- An actual Empty House! A real one, at that. Nicely played, Moff.
- John being a stone-cold badass in that drug den. Hot.
- Sherl, or Shezza. It's really a tossup as to which ridiculous nickname we love more, but what's for sure is that one of them needs to be made into a sitcom spinoff with an exclamation mark at the end. We wouldn't be opposed to Mark Gatiss in Mike! either.
- Of course Mrs Hudson's pressure point is marijuana. Amazing. This certainly helps to explain the weirdness of her believing Sherlock and John are a couple - she's probably just baked off her face half the time.
- John forgiving Mary after she shot Sherlock in the chest would have been a tough sell if Sherlock himself hadn't forgiven her so easily, but really, what's a deliberately non-fatal bullet wound between friends?
- It's been interesting this series to see the three new directors experiment with how to put the inner-workings of Sherlock's mind on screen. The mind palace in 'Hounds' didn't entirely work, but last week's courtroom was effective, as was the scene here where he and John play out the various possible scenarios for breaking into Magnussen's flat. Just visually clean and sharp and fun.
- "Because there's a load of smackheads in there, and one of them might need help changing a tire." Still laughing at this.
- When John walked into the den? Instant flashback to the Breaking Bad season two finale, where Walt goes into a similarly grim and dangerous flophouse to retrieve Jesse. Moffat is on record as a Breaking Bad fan, so although the scene is based on one in Doyle's 'The Man with the Twisted Lip', we reckon this might be a nod.
- Nice to see Molly go a bit John Watson on Sherlock with the three separate slaps. Richly deserved, as ever. She's come so far from series one, when she could barely get a sentence together around him. And her engagement to Tom is over! Wonder if "meat dagger" was the last straw.
- "I'm undercover." "No, you're not." "WELL, I'M NOT NOOOOW."
- The parallels between Sherlock and Mary in this episode were sort of unexpected but also made sense. John was drawn to them for the same reason, and he's loyal to a fault to both. In 'Reichenbach', John was the one person who flat out refused to doubt Sherlock, even when all the evidence was against him and Sherlock himself was trying to convince John he was a fraud. And here, he chooses not to learn the truth about Mary even when she hands it to him, because he loves her and it doesn't matter. (Which means we don't get to find out the truth either. Thanks a bunch, John.)
- Unsure though we are about bringing Moriarty back in a literal way, having him around as a Hannibal Lecter-like presence inside Sherlock's mind, a presence that only arises in his darkest moments, is kind of a brilliant prospect. Interesting, too, that he was in a padded room trying to keep Sherlock there with him. After their "You're me" conversation on the rooftop, it makes tons of sense that Sherlock's greatest fear might not be death, but his own potential for madness like Moriarty's.
- We were on tenterhooks waiting to hear Sherlock utter a variation on the iconic line "You are the one fixed point in a changing age." It comes in the same scene as "There's an east wind coming, Watson" in 'His Last Bow', but it looks as though Moffat and Gatiss are saving that particular gem for a later episode.

"Mark Gatiss may beat me up," Freeman told Alan Carr at the recording of this Friday's Chatty Man for Channel 4, "but there is an idea for this one-off special that’s such a good idea, and as I was listening to it I thought 'we’ve just got to do this'. And I don’t know when we are going to be able to do it, unfortunately."

This raises all sorts of interesting questions.  Will we start seeing only one new episode every couple of years?  And can anyone pinpoint that photo -- looks to be from the Christmas party filming for "Scandal" but with some items added -- are we seeing John and Sherlock or Freeman and Cumberbatch?

I do wish they'd follow the example of "The Office" and wrap the whole thing up with one Christmas Special that ties up loose ends and gives us a satisfying finale. And then over. I have a feeling that the show won't get any better and it might get worse. I'd much rather they stopped now than see that happen.
