Ok I am watching ' Stranger Than Fiction' starring Emma Thompson, Will Farrow & Queen Latifa. I think that Steve & Mark have nicked a few things from this movie. I mean some parts are truly reminiscent of Sherlock's mind palace... What finally made me post this was a reference to the Golem. I'm like this is way to coincidental. Before that the narrator/author in the movie played by Emma Thompson is standing on the edge of a building, holding out her hand similar to the way Sherlock did towards John, then she jumps. Later you see - Well she didn't really jump! :o The similarities to me are mind boggling. It's probably Mark more than Steve, there's something in the back of their heads referencing this movie as they write Sherlock.

We have that DVD, and liked the movie, but haven't watched it for a while, so I don't recall the details.  Maybe it's about time for a re-watch!  I see that Stranger than Fiction was made in 2006, so it predates all of Sherlock.

I feel the same way Arcadia while watching Eternal/Eternity/Forever... Whatever this new show is called. He's said deduction/s several times. He has a British accent & can tell people what they've eaten, what they do for a living & where they are going with just one glance. <_< all that's missing is use of a mind palace.

But it doesn't have the artistry and acting chops of Sherlock. Still just another cookie cutter detective show.

Oh, is that the one with Ioan Gruffudd? I was hoping it would be good, I really like that actor. Phooey.

Yes that's the one. It's okay, not as good as Sherlock... I was easily distracted during the show. Also he is referred to as Sherlock, Jokingly.

I loved the movie Stranger Than Fiction though.

Then there is the new one called Scorpion about a band of four or five geniuses. The lead has dark curly hair and wears a purple shirt. Hhmmm.

I know right. Come up with your own ideas already. Smart marketing though. Can't they be sued, like Marvin Gaye estate versus Robin Thicke or Queen versus Vanilla Ice.

I doubt it. They are promoting it as being based on a true story. No way you can do that with Sherlock and purple shirts are everywhere I've even got one. And the lead is dark completed.

You're trusting your spell checker again, Fox -- I think you mean "dark complected."

Ice Cream, God love the person who came up with ice cream. Just so amazingly good.

Ben & Jerry's. Best thing ever :-) To eat, that is...

Mmmh, Chocolate Fudge Brownie.

Yeah, that's the one I was watching. I swear they copied the scene from ASiP where we first see Sherlock make a deduction. He paused for the same number of beats BC did, you could see it coming a mile away. I started filtering after that. :D

Hollywood is getting to be ssssoooooo boring. They need new talent and ASAP. This is ridiculous.

They are trying to get people in America away from PBS Masterpiece & BBC America where most of the good shows lie.

Ioan's show, Forever, looked interesting from the previews.  Didn't watch last night & won't be home on time to catch it tonight to see if it's worth it.  Network TV in the US is not friendly for my 12 yo son during prime time for the most part.

I watched it (Forever, I mean) tonite, it was better than the Scorpion thing, but to my eyes, yeah, they were just trying to cash in on Sherlock, with a little Highlander thrown it to make it seem more different than it was. I might watch it again, though, it has some potential, and 2 really good lead actors.

I caught the last 10 min of Forever, I can see why people would potentially like it.  I need to see a full episode before making a final decision on it.

Ok, so I was setting up a date with this guy. The plan is to meet at my favorite coffee shop. My friends call me a coffee snob, because I love it and have a really good & trained palate when it comes to coffee.

Well in the beginning he made me feel that coffee was something he was really into, not only that he's a playwright & stand-up comedian, so it makes sense that he would be into coffee. Most performing & visual artists are. Well we are setting a time for our date, then I start to talk about how I can show him how I was taught to drink coffee & how I fell in love with drinking it black, because of this method. He was like Naaaaaah, I'll put my sugar & cream in mine thank you... I will NEVER be as passionate about coffee as you are.

That really bothered me... the phrasing Never ( This coming from the mouth of a writer, he understands the gravity of words. ), it made me feel like:

1.) Why wouldn't he do that with me. Just let me show him a little demonstration.

2.) I felt like his comment inferred that he felt my love of coffee is silly & a little frivolous.

So now I want to cancel the date or have it somewhere else.

What do you all think? Am I being too sensitive?... I don't know.

Which is why it really bothers me. If you're like this in the beginning, what else wouldn't he be willing to try.. Well we technically didn't just meet. We know of each other from high school.

I canceled the date. There were other things said during the conversation - honestly I wasn't looking forward to it anymore, so I went with my gut & canceled. I need an adventurous guy & one who is mostly careful with how they use their words with me. Words of Affirmation is, after-all, my love language.

Maybe when you said how much you like coffee, he assumed you meant -- you know -- that you like coffee.  And he likes it too.  But he didn't realize at first that you meant you really, really like it.  And then he may have felt a little pressured by your offer to show him how to drink coffee -- since he thinks he already knows how to drink it, been doing it for years.  Sounds like it could be a simple misunderstanding.

I can imagine (if I were single) meeting a nice guy who says he likes Sherlock.  At first I figure, oh right, he means Elementary -- but no, he really does mean Sherlock.  He's never read the original stories, though, so I get all enthusiastic and suggest we watch an episode together, and I'll explain all the canon references.  But it turns out he just thinks Sherlock is a good tv show, you know, like -- and he rattles off a list of all his favorite shows.

He still seems like a nice guy, though.  And my chances of meeting a Sherlock fiend who's also a nice single guy are pretty slim.  So I think I'd give the date a chance -- but probably skip the episode, at least for now.  But that's me, and I didn't hear your actual conversation.  And I definitely believe in going with one's gut instinct.

I guess I'm a tough girl to please. I guess in all the years I've been coffee expert, co workers & friends would @ least amuse me & pretend they enjoyed d trying a French press or a pour over or a black coffee drinking demonstration. I've converted a few along the way.

I don't handle rejection well. ^_^

 So you'd rather people pretended to be interested in your hobbies than be honest with you? Now, that's an interesting taste in relationships...

I love coffee too, but I'm definitely not a connoisseur. I drink any old brew I can get, as long as there's a dash of milk in it and it has real caffeine. I love grinding my own beans, though, because it makes the kitchen smell so good in the mornings.

I am sorry your date didn't happen, but maybe it was for the best, and I'm sure you'll have other, better opportunities. Unfortunately, I am the last person in the world who could give anybody dating advice. I honestly never dated. I pined after people who wanted nothing to do with me, until someone came along who did, and we became friends, and then lovers, and then got married. End of story.
