I tend to respond more the way Sherlock does when Greg hugs him. Sort of like a resigned cat.

The title of this thread made me smile, I was outside the real Speedy's cafe only yesterday! For anyone else here who's living in London, just a heads up that there is the most amazing bookshop just down the road from Speedy's... 10/10 recommended!

@Grey: does that mean it's better than Hatchard's on Picadilly or Foyle's and Waterstone's going towards the British Museum , and in what ways?

I prefer it to Foyle's and the big Waterstones and most the well-known bookshops actually, it's an academic specialist bookshop (which doesn't mean just textbooks!) so it has a lot of really interesting non-fiction books you don't usually see anywhere else.  It's also in a really pretty building, has a lot of good discounts and a great cafe in a lovely part of the city.

Heck, I'm staying here then. What's winter without snow?

It pretty much never snows in London, and when we get even the tiniest amount the entire city descends into chaos haha :P.  Us Brits are just terrible at dealing with the weather...

Same with Washington DC, which is why it's always such a calamity when it does snow! I've always loved it, though. It's so quiet when it snows.

Dear Grey, please, don't make me laugh so hard my sides ache! Once, we were very seriously informed by the GWR operators that trains from Victoria to Brighton (in fact the entire South Coast) would not be running, because the lines had been snowed on by "the wrong kind of snow"! What kind did they expect, and what is the right kind of snow for electric trains were not elucidated upon! If train services stopped in Northern Germany, or, I don't know, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Russia, because of a little snow, then goodbye to all that, or as :moriarty: would have said, "well, good luck with that!"

Well, here we have some of the right kind of snow! Deep, heavy and fluffy. As per Carol's request, a few pix. (Warning: don't look if you don't like snow! :P )

Yesterday at the height of the blizzard....

This morning. I do believe this is the most snow from a single snowstorm I have ever seen here.

Yes, for the DC area, that is indeed some serious snow. Isn't it wonderful! :d (I can say that ... it's the weekend, I don't have to be anywhere. Just cozily ensconced under a blanket waiting for the snowplow to arrive...)

We got a lot of cloud cover and even some high winds and what looked like heavy snow bands out to seaward but not a flake nor flurry to be seen on shore. Nice and sunny here now.

Well, I guess that saves me the trouble of checking on our friends in Maine, then! Here I was imagining them buried in 4 feet of snow.....
