I was just thinking... wouldn't it be nice if Anderson's recording of Sherlock explaining how he survived The Fall made some kind of appearance. Preferably in a way that allows John to blow a fuse because Sherlock told Anderson, of all people, and not him and Mary, even though John might not have wanted to know in the first place. That could make a very funny scene. And if Sherlock tried to get out of it by claiming he lied to Anderson just to get him off his back, then the Reichenbach speculations could reach a new peek.

Oh, I completely forgot Sherlock's "protégé", Bill Wiggins. He's bound to be part of series 4, isn't he? What will that be like, I wonder... Any thoughts? Will he merely pop up once in a while, or will he follow Sherlock around?

yess! I like bill. I wouldn't mind him being back as it'd be lovely too if the whole homeless network members would be introduced in some of the episodes.

Forgive me for asking a silly question, but - does Andrew Scott always talk like that? Not the Irish accent - I know he is Irish - but that strange, soft little voice? Or was that just part of his characterisation of Moriarty?

I saw him in Legacy but he was a Russian in that, so it was hard to tell, and also performing a very brief excerpt from Angels in America. I just wondered whether Moriarty's voice is his normal way of speaking or whether he had adopted it for the role.

no, he doesn't always talk like that.

I have seen him on stage in Cock and his voice is quite "normal", though it tends to be a little high pitched at times.

now, since this is the "what would you like to see in series 4?" thread, I can be as hopelessly romantic as I want and confess (I'm actually a mixture of romance and cynicism).

I'd like to see how/if it shows up again sherlock's hidden soft side, without he's turned into a puppy like creature

I'd like to see more interaction with molly and his parents

I'd like the story to go deeper into the relationship between sherlock and mycroft

I'm curious to see who the new baddie will be

these are just a few

I'd like to see them work on another case outside London. I know the capital is Sherlock's natural milieu but ACD''s Holmes did go, for instance, to Cornwall for his health in the Devil's Foot case. Fish-out-of-water scenarios are always interesting.

Here's a nice interview with Mr. Scott talking about acting, if you'd like to hear his normal voice for yourself.

While I'm not shocked, I'm a tad disappointed he doesn't sound anything like Kermit in real life.  lol

It was nice hearing Andrew's full Irish brogue.  Some of it is lost with his psychopathic mania as Moriarty.

Now to see how Moriarty comes back in the next season.

Great idea - I loved Hounds, I must admit. I know it's not the most clever or deep story, but I can't help it - I just love it. And the surroundings were a big part of that.

I think I'd like to see Sherlock and John go abroad. I always imagine they'd be great in some Indiana Jones-like adventure, but with a slightly more serious edge to it.

Ha! That sounds just like something Mofftiss might do.

I agree, that would be brilliant - and I'm saying that despite the fact that I am pretty happy with Sherlock's explanation to Anderson. I can accept it, because I can also accept that some things are only possible in the "Sherlock" Universe, not in real life. Well... to some degree.

Now I'm trying to think how many times the original Holmes and Watson left the UK -- in actual stories, I mean, not just brief mentions, of which I believe there are quite a few. There was "The Final Problem" of course, in Switzerland. And -- oh dear, which story was it that took place near an international border in Europe? (Don't think I've actually read that one, merely seen the Brett episode, but those are generally pretty true to the original.)

Near as I recall, a widower was wooing a young woman who thought of him as a very honest man being unjustly hounded -- whereas it turned out that his previous wives had all died in very convenient "accidents."

Neither of those was particularly Indiana-Jonesy though.  ;)

I don't remember a single one. Oh, wait - Lady Francis Carfax. Yes, Watson had to travel for that. And in true Holmes style, the detective eventually followed, after having sent unhelpful and cryptic telegrams about people's ears, the meaning of which only himself knew.

I would like to see them leave London for one episode as well. But some nice place in the rest of England would be enough for me. It'll be a long time until I can afford to tour the British Isles - I rely on television to see the sights.

It'd be easier / cheaper for them to film, as well.  I'd just as rather they not go abroad for the mere sake of going abroad -- only if the story really needs it.

Just realised that while I definitely want to see more of Lestrade in series 4, it's the dynamic of his and Sherlock's relationship that I love. I very much enjoy when they're on cases together. There are also some great "off cases" scenes with them, like the reunion in TEH, and several scenes from TSoT; Lestrade calling for back-up to Baker Street, or when Sherlock asks him at the wedding to give his theory on the vanishing weapon.

Sherlock: "Brilliant."

Lestrade (hopeful): "Really?"

Sherlock: "No."

Agreed! I don't think I really care to see any of the secondary characters unless they're interacting with our two leads. That's where the fun is.

I'm hoping they somehow implement the running gag the fandom has in which Greg is called Gregle.*

*this is due to the fact that 'greglestrade' looks more like 'gregle strade' than 'greg lestrade'.

THis is the first that I'm hearing of the running gag, but it would be fun to see Sherlock get his name almost right and call him Gregle.

I'd never heard that either -- is it from GREG LEstrade?

I was thinking last night how I'd like to see Janine's cottage. Wouldn't it be nice if, at some point, maybe a little further down the way, they play with the setting of "His Last Bow", where Holmes has retired and keeps bees? I actually hate that idea, but I'd love to see them take it and destroy it, like begin an episode with Sherlock having officially given up his precious work and pottering around at Janine's house (preferably without her knowledge or permission, while she's in London working), then revealing it was just a trick to put some villain off his guard. Or something like that. I can just imagine some pretty funny scenes where John and Lestrade try to persuade Sherlock to come back, Sherlock is doing his best to feign complete disinterest, and Janine bursts in on all three men demanding to know what they are doing in her house.

Not that the comedy is what I value the most about this show (it really isn't), but I could do with a few funny scenes after His Last Vow, and I just love it when they take "canon" things I do not like and change or make fun of them.

And then all of Sherlock's bees attack them because Sherlock trained them to attack anybody who bothered him.

I love your Janine's Cottage idea, T.o.b.y -- it's really good in so many different ways.

Yeah, basically. It's sort of like the Moon Moon of the Sherlock fandom. :P

That's something else I'd never heard of, and it's hilarious -- thanks for the link!

I never knew that werewolves had special werewolf names, though.  They're all basically infected humans, right?  I thought they just kept using their regular human names -- Remus Lupin, Lon Chaney, whatever.  ;)

That name generator reminds me of something else, though -- think I'll go start a thread for it.

For some odd reason I was thinking today, that Steven Moffat's son will be two years older when they make the next season than he was for the 3rd, so they could probably do a few more flashbacks about Sherlock's later childhood with him. Might be interesting to see our hero hitting puberty... Then I remembered that that is the point in life where your adult face slowly emerges and how this would be quite a problem, since it's very unlikely that Louis Moffat will grow up to look like Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock. Damn.

In the same vein, I wonder how young they could make Benedict Cumberbatch look now with the right make up and lighting. Could they do, say, early twenties, and give us a glimpse of Sherlock at university?

oooh, interesting....I would so go for that last bit.

That sort of thing can be tricky -- sometimes it works, sometimes it just looks downright silly.

Right, and I've seen the silly version a lot more often than the good one.

Another thing I've been pondering (yes, I do like awake sometimes thinking about Sherlock - pathetic, true, but on the other hand, I'm an insomniac, and I have to occupy my sleepless brain somehow) is that I read somewhere that Mark Gatiss reportedly said some time ago how he'd like to do a ghost story. Now, maybe that's completely false and he never stated any such thing or was badly misquoted or not talking about Sherlock at the time or or or, but - doesn't the thing with Moriarty's face suddenly appearing all over the nation's TV screens look a lot like the beginning of one? Dead Moriarty come back to haunt London? I think that would be really cool. Not, of course, if there was an actual ghost. The realms of the supernatural were often touched upon in Doyle, but always so that Holmes could expose a very natural reason for the spooky phenomena, and I wouldn't want them to handle that any differently on Sherlock, but so far, it looks as if there is nothing to worry about in that area, so yes, I'd love a Moriarty ghost story of sorts.
