That's what I'm wondering, where the fans got that idea from. I have a niggling feeling someone said it; just not Moftiss. Probably never be able to find it, though.

S5, huh? Is that what they call a Freudian slip? :d

Did I do that again? More like not enough sleep, I think.

The statement may come from all over tone of their answers. The first one that comes to mind - the Curious Case of the Blue Skull. They were trying to allude that everything has a meaning, but more and more details turn out to be like simple production limitations. I'm to new to the fandom to see if it was real or more of a wishful thinking from the fan-side.

Yeah, the pool thing's interesting, but it's also mentioned on the DVD specials or some such place. Why don't people ask something new, like what did Jim and Eurus talk about during those fateful five minutes? :P

That's a good thing about deleting things. You can find them again and be happy twice.

I agree, that blogger is fab. Even-handed.

Poor Ben, having his parents dish on him like that. :d

Drinks Reception

Something I thought was very strange was the fact Moffat said he doesn’t understand why so many people think BBC Sherlock is over. I mentioned that the ending Montage of S4 made it seem like a good place to end a series – that it felt like it was a purposeful ending. He scoffed, not at all understanding that TFP could wrap up the entire show. It’s like he just didn’t *get* it. To me, it’s obvious why viewers could see a comfortable ending there and absurd that he doesn’t see it.

I felt like our roles were switched. I argued that the Montage in TFP felt like an ending, he argued that it’s not the intention of that moment at all.

Make of that what you will, i feel like i sometimes slip into an AU while at this con.

TPTB regarding the F***iness of S4
  • Gatiss: "We really didn't have much of a budget to work with--"
  • Moffat: "Yeah, we really don't get as much money to play around with as you think we do."
  • Gatiss, a year ago: *Rents Aston Martin*
  • Moffat, a year ago: *Films in Morocco*
  • Vertue, a year ago: *Hires a helicopter*
  • Gatiss: "Tis a shame, really. Nothing we could have done."
  • Moffat: "Any mistakes you see are just because of that darn low budget!"
  • Gatiss: "Not even enough money to fix those pesky lightbulbs! Pity."
  • Moffat: "Definitely no other reason for set inconsistencies in our otherwise meticulous show."
  • Gatiss: "You see."
  • Moffat: "That's the whole of it."
  • Gatiss: "The budget."
  • Moffat: "The budget."
  • Gatiss: "Nothing we could do."
  • Moffat: "Nothing we could do."
  • Gatiss: "I don't know why people don't believe us when we explain ourselves!"
  • Moffat: "Yeah, we're being very honest."
  • Gatiss: "Mmm yes, honest."

That's Moftiss for you. hyenas.gif

My memory may very likely be faulty but wasn't Moffat quoted as saying that was a good way to leave the show, explaining why they didn't do a cliffhanger or was that Gatiss?

The last paragraph of this one has Moffat saying: If it is the end, the closed finale to the fourth season ties up the story perfectly, says Moffat. “We could end it there. We couldn’t have ended it on any of the previous [seasons] because they’ve all ended on walloping, great cliffhangers."

This one expands the quote further saying it's not planned as the end but it could be....As to whether there will be a fifth series, Moffat added: “If this was the last time – we’re not planning it, but it might be, it’s possible – we could end it there. We couldn’t have ended it on any of the previous series because they always ended up with whopping great cliffhangers."

Right but then why is Moffat oblivious to why the fan thinks the TFP felt like a finale when Moffat already acknowledged that it could be? I think he means TFP could still be a setup for mature Sherlock in a future series but considering one isn't currently planned it's just a weird way to talk about it when it seems like they wrote TFP to work as a finale if it turns out to be one.

 See, this is why I never watch any audio commentary and avoid interviews and such like. I like my fiction to stand for itself. First of all, too much "making of" spoils my immersion and also, some creators do have a way of reminding me that I must be utterly insane and I can do with a little less self-awareness. :P

I remember, from the little I have ever seen / read / heard of him, that I found Mr Moffat quite irritating when he talks about his show(s) and that some of the things he says just don't seem to match the content he creates. I wonder if he just doesn't like giving interviews, doesn't like talking about his work or thinks it quite silly to what extent fans think about and analyze it. Whatever the reason, I have found that I enjoy Sherlock much more if I ignore most of what goes on around, above and behind it and I'd much rather have an unqualified rambling chat with you guys on here than deal with the statements, however serious or not, of a person who actually can be said to have some kind of authority on the matter.

This is not how I handle real life issues, btw, don't worry (no, I do not live in my own little media bubble and reject any conflicting evidence as "fake news" or claim I have "alternative facts"...). But fiction is my sanctuary from the real world and a place I come to for relaxation and fun. So there.

Agreed and his default response generally seems defensive or contrary if he considers the question a criticism or seems incredulous when others have a different opinion of his work than he intends.

I felt like that fan being in an AU when Moffat was defending the Mary character. He made the character a liar assassin but can't understand why people don't like her?

I'm the opposite. There is a nice little quote from BC about it that sums it up nicely, but sadly, I cannot find it now.
I always want to know how's made, it somehow adds to the experience without killing the impact.

Me too, fiction and this forum. I enjoy a dispassionate analysis of the episodes, but if that turns into a heated debate it kinda spoils it for me.

Hearing Moftiss's opinions doesn't bother me. For one thing I'm certainly not about to debate them -- just ask a load of questions if I ever get the chance.

I think I'm more like JP, if I love something I want to learn as much about it as I can. But I'm also wary of getting so immersed that I tire of it ... simply because that's happened to me. I don't constantly rewatch the episodes, for example, because I don't want to wear them out. And it's always a risk getting to know more about the people involved in creating something you like ... what if they turn out to be jerks? But I'm still interested in knowing what they think of their own work. It's a bit of a tightrope, sometimes. :)

Agree(d)!! That's what I do.

I know 'other news' only from here and selectively. Also mostly, I don't really believe many external things you guys posted here anyway. :p

I think it's possible to pick and choose which items to accept into one's own head canon.  At least, it should be possible.  I still have some glitches.

The author of Witcher seems to be a jerk (or at least he was, the last time I checked) but I still love his books. Some of them. :P

About getting immersed: The first time I was terrified. But then I realized I should just let it happen, and do, spend time and money, and have sleepless nights, and produce stuff, and feel happy and alive - because one day it will be over. Not that I would miss experiences I didn't make, but, well, I wouldn't make them. :D
