I used to go to comic and sci fi conventions in my area, there were never any big names, but they were still fun and worthwhile. The best part was always the merchandise hall, imo, but the guests they did have were always interesting. And the general ambience was fun.

BUT -- they only cost about $20 to attend.

I remember those days -- even the worldcons were affordable (and I was an office temp then), and you got to (literally) rub elbows with the likes of Isaac Asimov and Harlan Ellison, who weren't generally even the guest speakers, they paid for their tickets just like the rest of us. But I'm gonna guess that the worldcons costs a damn sight more than $50 now. *off to check* Well, full membership in last month's MidAmericon II was just $240. Hardly any increase really, considering all the inflation since I attended the first MidAmericon in 1976.

I think I have only attended some toy convention and big boy's toy that cost less than 20 bucks. It's fun, yes, the merchandize part because there are toys for adults (heck not that kind of adult toys XD) that are not commonly found elsewhere like gazillion times gazillion rubik cube I bought for my brother, classic series of interesting historical books (in serious comic format), smart innovative games and weird board games.

I don't know how much Sherlocked cost, but if Mark is attending, maybe it's not too shabby, since J.P likes him most (I suppose?). Anyway, although I hope the organizer could deliver more or making up with it should the available guests are too insufficient (doorprize!) but even if they don't, don't regret what you have decided to do and enjoy it the best you can. Money is just number, if it's not a burden and could buy some sort of happiness, why not? We only live once. :) Once rite? I think. XD

So is Mark getting any Feltcroft? There is chance that he would set it aside, of course, but I think he would like it, it's unique. Cuter if smaller.. he he

Nope... Mark gets something more practical. But I won't say now. :P

and yes, this year there is surely more for people with normal tickets. Even some of the talks are free, which makes me wonder a bit.

Of course I would love to chat with BC again - now having enough data to make a conversation. Like about Little Favor. I also would love to see MF. But still we have Andrew who is a real gem. And Arwel. Still no word about Danny Hargreaves though.

Goldfishfelt? Umbrella tie? Cakefelt?

Oh I know!

Good god.

You must be planning to give him J.P.Felt.

errr... who is Danny Hargreaves?

Special Effects Supervisor.

...and very funny and enthusiastic about his job.

For goodness sake what would he do with a felt me? It wouldn't even be good for Bunsen to play with.

I only say it's not a "felt" at all.

Okay, now you know we have to guess what it is. A reptile t-shirt? Goldfish crackers? Umbrella tie ... wait, sorry, VBS already thought of that. Plum pudding?

Not telling.

Because for an INTP I'm a helluva superstitious gal.

And yes, I have thought about an umbrella tie, but the only company making customized ties I know is Zazzle and the quality of theirs wasn't that great.

Oh, so NOW you are INTP.

Okay I think you will bring him geomancy contraption, deck of Tarrot cards, or this?

What I meant with umbrella tie :p

Okay, for my third stupid question: who is Bunsen??

The German idiot who invented safe to use burners in all labs around the world without setting the place on fire, back in the 19th century! Just find him on Wikipedia and be done with it! Even Marie Curie had Bunsen burners in her lab, trying to smelt the ore which contained crystallised Uranium.

Bunsen is Mark's Dog. Named after the other Bunsen. :D

The umbrella tie above is a bit inconvenient. It pokes you in your throat each time you lower your head. I wouldn't like to hurt Mark. :D

But I meant something that would look similar.

But as I said - I'm not telling yet.

You tease, you!

At least this gives us something to do.... is it a mankini?

Posted

Yes I figure it's a pet from the context but I wasn't sure. Context!

Hey, mankini! I buy that.

Tsk..tsk.. J.P.

And good god, now I can't erase Mark + Borat's mankini.

BC will be at the current SHERLOCKED in London but on Sunday only.

Dear J.P. must be feeling vindicated for spending all that money on a VIP ticket! All hail to her, may she have the best time in the world!

Not that this addition stops it from being a massive rip-off for most of the attendees, who haven't got premium tickets.

That's true. I have to say my gut reaction after reading yesterday's anouncement was BC, but it also means there will be more of... the people.

And I have to change my neatly printed schedule.

And I feel bad for BC being talked into the event instead of having some rest. Now it looks like the rabid Cumberb*tches forced him to come. Let's see what the Fail will write this time.

Note to self: cabin luggage case is smaller than you think. panic.gif

How did they announce that BC would be there after all? All I find on the con's website is that he's listed among the guests -- but no news item as such. And Google brings up nothing newer than reports that he would *not* be there.
