I loved Buffy. I loved the sense of humour most of all, but also the fact that they were not afraid to take the storylines and the characters in unexpected directions....

Although Buffy and Sherlock (the shows, not the people) are obviously very different, they do share the hallmark of very emotional narratives, strong characters and a dark humour that so many shows lack....

Sadly, though, we'll never see a musical episode of Sherlock, which was one of the highlights of Buffy. :)

A musical episode of Sherlock would be so cool!  :D

I second the nomination for a musical episode!

It's already been established that Sherlock plays the violin (and even composes his own music), so that's a good start.  Una Stubbs used to be a dancer in the Folies Bergere.  And Martin Freeman has a very nice singing voice.  I'm not sufficiently familiar with the other actors' backgrounds to say for sure, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if several more of them have "hidden" talents as well.

So all Moftiss need to do is come up with a plausible excuse.  And if they can turn Conan Doyle's sweet little Mary Morstan into an undercover spy, surely staging a Sherlock musical would hardly strain their imaginations.

All in favor say aye! This, I would pay good money to see!

Ugh. I do like musicals as a rule, but I am very happy that it is highly unlikely "Sherlock" will ever have to accommodate one. I like the show to have a fairly serious tone.

If "The Voice" would get himself cast in a real musical, though, stage or film, I would certainly be curious to see it!

Well a reason would be a bit harder to find than on Buffy (no dancing demons in the Sherlockverse, unless aely decides to do a crossover ;)). But they might bend things a bit and, say, have Sherlock and John go deeply undercover in a musical production if the star was threatened or something ... although Sherlock would more likely try for a place in the orchestra, as in The Canary Trainer.

Plus, they'd have to compose the musical for the episode, too ... and not everyone is such a multitalent as Joss Whedon (and speaking of him and musicals, anybody here who loves Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog as much as I do?)

I watch it on a regular basis. It breaks my heart and makes me laugh every damned time.

Sherlock did say he was living in hope of the right case (to do some dancing)... :)

Oh, right -- Sherlock loves to dance.  Mrs. Hudson is a former exotic dancer.  And I've seen Martin Freeman being pretty light on his feet in some other shows.  This is getting better all the time.

One might almost wonder whether Moftiss are intentionally laying the groundwork for a musical episode.  (I assume I'm joking.    )

Joking or not, it could still be very well done. At least he got to practice dancing...both alone and with Janine. Maybe Mrs. Hudson could give him private lessons on the exotic stuff.

I sure hope you are!

That would be interesting! Though I'm not sure I would want to see it :D

Yeah, that I would like to see :D

Back to *ahem* our topic:

How could we all have forgotten -- John learned clarinet in school!  What more do we need?

Molly will be standing at her bedroom window singing about how she loves Sherlock so much and watches him walk by every morning. Lol :)

While I personally wouldn't want to see a Sherlock musical I do think it could be accommodated in some sort of "fever dream" plot.

We've seen the world through Sherlock's eyes (labels on things...blurry and incoherent when drunk) and we've been inside Magnussen's mind palace. So maybe Sherlock goes "undercover" again in some sort of drug den? Or more plausible is seeing the world through Moriarty's eyes. An entire episode through Jim's insane perspective...likely to the soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever.

I don't know, Jim Moriarty found life boring. It was his many minions who did all the dirty work. But I suppose it if showed how he pulled the strings.

Looks like someone's already beat us to it.

I'm sure our cast to do it better.

Mind you, I didn't know he could sing..! :D
